East and west are completely reversed, no matter how much I try to calibrate the phone. For example, if I'm facing north (which the compass recognizes) and turn to the right to face east, the compass actually turns to the left to point west...and vice versa. No problems whatsoever with north and south....just a 180degree reversal of east and west.
View 6 RepliesI noticed that the compass on google map (blue little arrow) is a bit crazy. it will not point north. It may point west but when I tilt the phone up or down even just a bit (still pointing north), it will flip to pointing east. If I drive with the Map app open, the arrow (using GPS I guess) point to the direction of driving. but a few seconds after stopping the around will flip between 90 and 100 degrees, until I start moving again. I found that google sky also goes totally crazy and jumps all around when I use it. I downloaded a compass app and it also shows the compass moving erratically when I move the phone even a few degrees. Although this phone is brand new (4 days) it is not my first Android nor my first Moto. I remember that my other phone had a compass calibration utility and I can't seem to find it on the Razr..
View 5 Replies View RelatedThe inbuilt magnetometer on my phone seems to have developed issues. It does not work in maps. It is always greyed . In fact it should be aligned in The direction of The travel. It is always stuck at north at top. Is this a hardware issue or can it be sorted out by software reinstall?EVEN THE OTHER COMPASS APPS DONT WORK. I have downloaded compass touch from Nokia store. Anyone else with same issue? And yes, I had performed a hard reset (*#7370#) after belle refresh. Not sure whether this issue came up after this or it was there before.
View 10 Replies View RelatedThe compass is not working on my Nokia C6-01.I cant calibrate it. Even other compass apps dont work. Nokia care staff reinstalled firmware, but the issue was not solved. They said it is a sensor issue and they will check whether this is in touch panel or the board itself. I just want to know whether sensor has any role to play in a compass. The Nokia care staff has no idea of what a compass is and how it works. He didnt understand the exact problem even after I showed it. I had to grab another similar phone and showed him how it works or should work. I am fed up with the failure of Nokia phones within a year or so. This is my 3rd handset in row to have developed issues. Seems better to move on to other phones.

At least it worked occasionally on the E72.Does the compass need to be deliberately switched on in Maps 3.08 in Belle?

Has anyone noticed they could not click on an address in an email to get directions / navigation to pop up since the ICS upgrade? I used to send myself an email with an address and could just touch the address on the screen and directions / navigation would pop up, now that doesn't seem to work anymore for me. Maybe I am not typing the address correctly?

My relevant background - I live in Los Angeles, owned an HTC HD7S for more than a year and just recently got a Lumia 920. I like everything about my new 920 except vibration noise, and this horrid Nokia Maps app which is forced on us...Problems with Nokia Maps:Lack of integration with the rest of the operating system. Nokia maps is an island to itself. I click an address from a people hub contact, it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address from a Bing search which has a dedicated hardware button, and it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address in an email, you guessed it, it opens Windows Phone maps. Searching in Nokia Maps has terrible resultsI tried 3 searches today during the course of my day using Nokia Maps. Si Laa is a Thai restaurant I wanted to try a few miles from my house with an obviously unique name. The results I get are for Joyce Cafe, something in Germany and Slovenia. Next I try UPS in hopes it will find the company owned UPS Customer Center a quarter mile from my house. It doesn't find it at all, but does find alot of ups stores that are further away. Nokia Maps choked on another restaurant in Beverly Hills I tried to find. My wife's iPhone 4s had no problems with any of these. Local surface street traffic info is missingOn the Lumia 920, I don't get any surface street traffic info. I do see traffic info for highways and freeways. I used to get local surface street traffic on my old HD7S Windows Map. Windows Phone Maps shows some sporadic street traffic data but is not quite right either. I called Nokia about it, the level 1 techie tells me I'm supposed to have local street traffic but has no further explanation and has escalated to level 2...Nokia removed the Windows Phone Maps.As shown in the first point above, Windows maps is still clearly on the phone, but Nokia removed the tile for it from the app list. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly open Windows maps. This would be fine except that Nokia maps, which is supposed to be the replacement, is worse than Windows Phone maps in so many ways.There isn't a single reason to use Nokia Maps over Windows Phone Maps.The only reason I use it is because Nokia has seen fit to make Windows Phone Maps hard to start by removing it from the apps list.Nokia should leave both map apps available and in the apps list.
If Nokia Maps is the superior product, people will use it. Right now I'd say Windows Phone maps is superior in every way and that's a shame for Nokia who is supposed to be a mapping leader...
My nokia 5800 faces some problems here after upgrading to the new V50 firmware, not sure whether have u all encountered it before.
1. Sometimes when typing SMS, the cursor will keep moving backwards and hang there (sounding tut tut tut... continuously and unstoppable)
2. Sometimes the vibration on touching the screen will suddenly become stronger than normal, like suddenly Zeeek, zek, zek rather than normal zek, zek, zek~
I am not sure whether it is common in V50 firmware or it happens only to my specific phone.
I've just installed Ovi maps 3.01 on my N95 device, and downloaded maps for my country. But when I turn on the maps application, all the roads are placed in total wrong places. Some leads over water and through forests, and nothing seem to be right. I get my location on the right spot of the map, but the roads are chaotic.Any clues what could be wrong? I've already tried to reinstall the map file.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to know everything about my brand new X6 and I got a problem with the GPS. Previously I got a TOM-TOM GPS and with it. I could find an address easily, but now When I want to go to an address I'm not able to get someone like:

I only found the search bar and Don't know how to introduce the exact country, city and address to look for.
I have a couple of problems with this version.
1. On a stretch of about 48 Km of mostly highways MAPS more or less gets lost and give me completely wrong directions, like "turn left" on the highway (not in the UK!). GPS signal is strong and even an external Bluetooth with better sensors does no help. It happens always at the same spots.
2. On some longer trips MAPS did hang for a couple a minutes, usually at crucial moments.
3. During this 48 km trip, which I know very well, I use MAPS mainly for traffic announcements, it gives me directions that are far from optimal, not for shortest route nor for the fastest. The routes in version 2 where correct.
4. It is impossible to keep the Bluetooth link with my Nokia CK-1W car kit up longer that 5 minutes. Usually It disconnected after a minute or 3.
When I'm using my 6710 Navigator in the car for navigation & listening to the directions via the car stereo (Bluetooth connection). About the first 1/2 second of the directions are missing. For example instead of "Turn right" I just hear "Right". I can sort of make my way but its hard not hearing the beginning of all the guidance. If I listen via the phone's speaker the instructions are complete. I have a 2009 Hyundai Getz, so its not an old stereo & have installed the latest maps/software on the phone. My 6110 didn't have this problem.
View 6 Replies View RelatedSince Nokia maps became free to use for driving with spoken directions, I've decided to use it again on my 5800 rather than another piece of Nav software that I had. Whilst it seems to work great, my only problem seems to be that it announces the directions over Bluetooth. As my phone is connected to my car via a built in Bluetooth kit (parrot), whenever I activate routing with spoken directions, the phone takes over the audio and mutes the stereo (with "PHONE" displayed on my factory head unit). The stereo is then muted for the whole journey or until I exit from Nokia maps. So it seems my only options are driving without music, or mute the 5800 and route without spoken directions ?

Not a huge deal but just annoying when you are so used to it the other way.Oh and I should add this happened after I added a ringtone using bitpim. So maybe it is a bitpim related issue not the update. Or a little of both.

View 5 Replies View RelatedYesterday I installed the new free Ovi Maps and managed to download some maps and voice guidance files onto it as well. Yay for the free new gadget. But somehow my compass doesn't seem to work anymore. Or rather, it stays white and I don't see the map tilt. With the previous version I would just move the phone along all axis for a few seconds and it would turn from white to yellow to green (as described in the manual). Here, nothing happens, no matter how long or how often I turn and twist the thing.Is there a different way to do it in the new Ovi Maps? Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug? If so, am I the only one with it?

She got it two days ago, and from the get-go, when she types, particularly in Blackberry Messenger, it types the words backwards and changes the letters to weird characters. It doesn't do it all the time. She brought it over and I updated the software for her, and we did a battery pull, but it didn't fix it.
