My relevant background - I live in Los Angeles, owned an HTC HD7S for more than a year and just recently got a Lumia 920. I like everything about my new 920 except vibration noise, and this horrid Nokia Maps app which is forced on us...Problems with Nokia Maps:Lack of integration with the rest of the operating system. Nokia maps is an island to itself. I click an address from a people hub contact, it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address from a Bing search which has a dedicated hardware button, and it opens Windows Phone Maps, not Nokia Maps. I click an address in an email, you guessed it, it opens Windows Phone maps. Searching in Nokia Maps has terrible resultsI tried 3 searches today during the course of my day using Nokia Maps. Si Laa is a Thai restaurant I wanted to try a few miles from my house with an obviously unique name. The results I get are for Joyce Cafe, something in Germany and Slovenia. Next I try UPS in hopes it will find the company owned UPS Customer Center a quarter mile from my house. It doesn't find it at all, but does find alot of ups stores that are further away. Nokia Maps choked on another restaurant in Beverly Hills I tried to find. My wife's iPhone 4s had no problems with any of these. Local surface street traffic info is missingOn the Lumia 920, I don't get any surface street traffic info. I do see traffic info for highways and freeways. I used to get local surface street traffic on my old HD7S Windows Map. Windows Phone Maps shows some sporadic street traffic data but is not quite right either. I called Nokia about it, the level 1 techie tells me I'm supposed to have local street traffic but has no further explanation and has escalated to level 2...Nokia removed the Windows Phone Maps.As shown in the first point above, Windows maps is still clearly on the phone, but Nokia removed the tile for it from the app list. There doesn't seem to be a way to directly open Windows maps. This would be fine except that Nokia maps, which is supposed to be the replacement, is worse than Windows Phone maps in so many ways. There isn't a single reason to use Nokia Maps over Windows Phone Maps. The only reason I use it is because Nokia has seen fit to make Windows Phone Maps hard to start by removing it from the apps list.Nokia should leave both map apps available and in the apps list.
If Nokia Maps is the superior product, people will use it. Right now I'd say Windows Phone maps is superior in every way and that's a shame for Nokia who is supposed to be a mapping leader...

So I'm planning on selling my 16 GB iPhone 3GS on eBay, but unlocking or jail breaking it before I do so. I'm looking to upgrade to the new iPhone 4, even though I don't qualify for the $199 price. Can someone give me step by step directions on how to do this? Specifically regarding what to do with my sim card and how to buy the new one. Any help would be appreciated thank you!
How to step by step to putting on games to a Samsung Flight SGH-A797? I've seen posts for other models and tried (no luck). I do not know the Internals Password, Have usb cord.
East and west are completely reversed, no matter how much I try to calibrate the phone. For example, if I'm facing north (which the compass recognizes) and turn to the right to face east, the compass actually turns to the left to point west...and vice versa. No problems whatsoever with north and south....just a 180degree reversal of east and west.
Can someone please give me a step by step walk through to set my emails up?I have a Window Live ID. What is a Blackberry Enterprise Server administrator password?
My nokia 5800 faces some problems here after upgrading to the new V50 firmware, not sure whether have u all encountered it before.
1. Sometimes when typing SMS, the cursor will keep moving backwards and hang there (sounding tut tut tut... continuously and unstoppable)
2. Sometimes the vibration on touching the screen will suddenly become stronger than normal, like suddenly Zeeek, zek, zek rather than normal zek, zek, zek~
I am not sure whether it is common in V50 firmware or it happens only to my specific phone.
my apple i phone 3 g was working fine no problems then it changed to giant letters and icons by itself, I was asleep when I got a text from my friend, everything was huge.I couldnt use the keyboard it was too big for the screen, I tried to change the font setting but could barely see it but did see it was still in the mimimun size font. I tried turning it off and back on, tried rebooting and its fully charged.
While tracking down a problem with a different program I stumbled across a large number of files apparently left by MotoCast. In my (XP) "Documents and settingsusernameLocal SettingsTemp" folder there are 445 objects that include the word "Zumo" in their filenames. They total almost 8GB. They appear to be artifacts of MotoCast left behind at every reboot. What are they? Why does MotoCast leave them behind and not clean them up on the "next" boot up? Can they be removed?
I looked through the faqs and it said to go to update and add map while in the app. I can't find anything in the app that will let me update -__- Do I have to be connected to the pc? I can't run Zune because I don't have SP3. I would like to just use my wifi connection for this.
I can start to download them, then the process stops without any pop ups, so I start it again and it tells me it cannot reach maps at the moment. I've checked on wifi and 3G nothing seems to change.I was able to get the maps before I reseted my phone onto my xbox account.
I bought the phone 3 weeks ago and was shocked to find out it only worked online ... not at all the way it was advertised (imho).Nokia Maps ''always free of charge'' was the one big reason I decided for a Nokia loyalty rather then going to Samsung or Apple.
1. Is / will Nokia Maps be available soon for Lumia 800 in offline mode, like the good old Nokia I had for 4 years?
2. Is there a good alternative (is Drive really an alternative and is truly offline)?
3. If none of the above - which Nokia smartphone does work offline with Nokia Maps? I still have a week's time to bring it back to the store!
I am trying to sync. favorites I create on maps.nokia.com with Nokia Maps 2.5.29.357 on my Lumia 900 (WP 7.5), but they will not transfer from the web interface to the phone. Favorites I create on the phone transfer just fine to my account on maps.nokia.com. Is there a way to "push" favorites to the phone from the web interface?
Since two days I own a Lumia 820 and provided a microSD card for my device. Now I'm searching for the settings to use ther microSD card space for downloading maps.
How can I configure my Lumia 820 to use the microSD for downloading maps?
I just got a new lumia 800, all the maps software on the phone do not rotate as I rotate the phone, even having the "rotate with my current direction" selected in the maps settings.
Managed to get all my old 120 favorites on N8 syncd to Nokia maps from [URL] Now, how do I search within the favorites? It just lists them in alphabetical order and no option to sort or search. If I display the favs on maps it is very slow and names do not appear?
I purchased a Nokia 610 today and am trying to download the UK maps in Nokia Drive. Have setup WiFi. Select the UK (All) map to download. At random points throughout the download process the app crashes and returns me back to the start screen.
I have removed and reinstalled the app with no change.
i am having a problem with my lumia 800. whenever i try to download maps in nokia drive, after the download starts and reaches around 20-25% , suddenly the home screen appears and i have to redownload the map. the problem is arising every time. I have lots of free memory so memory isnt an issue, my software is also up-to date.
I just got a WP7, and it's got an app called maps, and it can tell me where I'm at. I don't have a gps plan with ATT.does anybody know if it uses the phone's gps to find my location or does it locate my phone by some other means?
I am using Nokia Drive and Maps on Lumia 710. Say I want to go to a school in a particular area. I need to search for the name of that school and only then set my location. If I try to zoom in to that area on the map, I do not see the school or other places of interest/businesses in that area. This is irritating as in google maps, if I zoom into a location, I get all the businesses/areas on interest in that area. Am I missing something?. If not, then nokia maps needs to have this feature as it is very useful.
There should be a dialog or other view to show the current location as coordinates in Nokia Maps. This kind of information can be needed in some cases and currently there is no support to get the coordinates.
Why is it that when I'm creating a route in Maps, the outcome varies dependent on how I created the route, thus using the same route parameters?
I've created the same route using different ways of creating the route, and the created route is different every time. If I create the route in Maps using the search facility, the route is different if I use an address via the people and contacts interface. And again it is different when using Drive.
I made the discovery when a suggested route made a 16.2 km de-tour on a 11 km stretch. More than a 100%. I'm now wondering if I dare to use NOKIA maps for my summer trip to Italy from Denmark.
NOKIA - make a navigation app where I can define my own waypoints. This is essential in every navigation system. optimize the app, so I can choose an alternative route - this is basic in most modern navigation systems.
Considering upgrade from Windows 7.5 device (not Nokia) and looking at 820 or 920, but really like speed, integration and features of Bing Maps - looking at reviews/comments, removing the menu item for Bing Maps is putting me off the Nokia and pushing me towards the HTC!Why not have both available on the phone? You have the codee there so it does not affect the underlying platform. User choice is and should be king on these devices, so why remove the Bing Maps option? This must be a simple fix for you to do.... so make yourself another customer, and a load of people out there happier by adding the menu item back in ---- you don't have to have it pinned to the start menu by default, just available for those of us who want to use it instead of -- or as well as -- Nokia Maps.
When I launch Maps and press the circle button to zoom to my location, it will do so. It finds me within a few hundred feet. After this point, it has no idea where I am. The dot representing me on the maps will vanish, and if I press the locate button again, it will pop somewhere else within a couple of miles of me, and then realize that isn't right, and not change the circle locator button to green, or show a dot on the screen. I can press the locate button again and have this happen continuously. When using Nokia Drive Beta, it will use my correct location to plot a course, but then not follow me at all, so it constantly displays the first direction. It, too, seems to have no clue where I am.My commute takes me through country, city, and suburbs. I've tried placing the phone on the dash, in the cupholder, and just holding it. Previous phones (iPhone, android) have not had this issue over the same commute.
I installed nokia drive on my new phone Lumia 900. However, I just cant download maps on it. It says "Please connect to Wifi" when I am already connected to wifi. I tried uninstalling the app and installing it again. I reset the phone too.
On my new Lumia 920, Nokia maps is not showing traffic info for me. I have already updated to 3.0, but when I set the map view to traffic info, nothing happens.
WIth the builtin Bing maps however (which is not directly accessible, but for example when clicking on a contact's address), traffic info works just fine. I'm in Germany, so it's not about the coverage.
