I have an N85 and got the latest Ovi Maps for my phone. On the ovi website it is advertising free voice guided navigation for life, but my application keeps asking me to purchase a license.I am confused , do I have the wrong version? What do I need to do to take advantage of the free navigation as advertised?

Users can also update the maps from time to time. *After apple users 'jail-break' their devices, they are able to download many apps for free, including Sygic*ut for Samsung GS2 / Tab users, they are only able to download Sygic and use it for trial periods of 7 days.Subsequently, they have to pay $$.Now I am facing this problem, the apps keep asking me to key in the activation code which I will be getting the code after paying them.
So, i am searching everywhere for the similar apps (free apps), but couldn't get.The preloaded apps in my SGS2 when i bought are Google Maps, Navigate (a blue triangle icon). "Navigate" is good and accurate, but the only thing is there is no turn-by-turn (tbt)voice guidance. I prefer to have a tbt voice guidance as I don't have to look at my phone and I can concentrate more on the road / traffic while i am driving.
I have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?

You thought Garmin and TomTom were in trouble when Google announced its free Navigation service? Wait until investors hear Nokia's news.Reuters is reporting that Nokia will offer free navigation on its smartphones. However, instead of just the US (the current Google limitation sans hacking), Nokia will be demonstrating its reach by offering free turn-by-turn directions in 74 countries and 46 languages - a move that should cover 20 million smartphones globally with Ovi Maps available in over 180 countries Update: The original San Francisco Chronicle report has been pulled but Google cache caught a bit more saying that Nokia's navigation service is "capable of operating completely offline" unlike Google Navigation which requires data connectivity.
Update 2: Nokia just made the download link live. Hey, where's the N97 and N900.
Update 3: And it's official. Starting today, Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation is free across the globe. Drivers receive turn-by-turn voice guidance including lane assistance, traffic information (in 10 countries including the US), and safety camera and speed warnings while pedestrians will be guided on shortcuts through parks and pedestrian-only zones in over 100 cities across the globe. It all works offline too, which should extend battery life and keep that navigation humming even while puttering about in data dead zones without racking up international roaming charges (take that, Google). From March 2010, all new Nokia GPS enabled smartphones will come installed with the new Ovi Maps application and pre-loaded with local country map data and walk and drive navigation with access to location-aware Lonely Planet and Michelin travel guides at no extra cost. Additional premium guides like a weather service and events / movies are also included. Just 10 devices from Nokia's massive catalog are available today a list that includes the N97 Mini, 5800 XpressMusic, 5800 navigation edition, E52, E55, E72, 5230, 6710 navigator, 6730 classic and X6.

Will Ovi Map 3.03 be compatible with the E71? Right now it isn't.

1) Check that you have the latest N97 FW: 20.0.019. Learn how to check your current version and update at www.nokia.com/softwareupdate?n97
2)Once you have this firmware, you can go to Software Update on your device and the new version will appear for download. You should also be prompted as you open the Maps application on your device (online connection required).
Why is the nokia free navigation not available on the n96. i understand its not available on the n97 due to the FW having bugs but that is being resolved, Does anyone no when it will be available for the n96 I dont pretend to know everything like some people on these boards i am just trying to help. Its not all about the kudos.

View 27 Replies View RelatedNow I know this has been a frustration for many users. Nokia ovi maps 3.0.3 is not widely compatible with a lot of phones with exceptions being the newest models. Free navigation is not available on the older version of maps, so either free licenses need to be available on the older maps or the new version must become compatible. I know nokia have said they are working on this, but is there any timescale? I could do with having navigation on my phone a.s.a.p really.

I've installed the Ovi Maps 2.0 and download, through the nokia program the maps for Brazil and Brazilian Portuguese voice. During the "Drive"/"Walk" options in Ovi Maps, there is no voice. Ovi Maps does not provide voice navigation. Java is not supported so such brilliant apps such as the Opera browsers can not be installed onto it. PC suite is not yet available it the phone. So at first glance it is a great phone that could match the IPhone, but more work needs to be done to it to make it the all singing and dancing phone that Nokia needs it to be. I own a Nokia E71 and I am very excited about Nokia Maps. I am not a good computer user but somehow managed to land into this forum. I have downloaded Nokia Maps on my Nokia - E71 and its awesome but the voice navigation is not working. When I tried to download Voices using "Map Loader" it shows no entry. I have attached the screenshot of "Map Loader" for your reference.
View 18 Replies View Relatedafter updating Ovi Maps to final version 3.06 10wk50 with new maps 0.2.42.122 the German voice guidance with street names is broken. The voice announces i.e. to turn right in one kilometer and again to turn right now, but the announcement to turn right in about 300 meters including the street name or the highway number and direction is missing completely. Sometimes the command to turn now is also left out. I tried using the German female voice without street names as well as the UK English voice with street names - both work well without any problems.I already reinstalled Ovi Maps via Ovi Store, deleted the qf file and the cities folder on the mass memory and re-downloaded the map and voice files, I resetted the phone via *#7370# and reinstalled the actual firmware (013.016) via Ovi Suite without success.

When I browsed the voices folder however it was there.i had to download another voice thru the maps application (sadly no surfer dud) in order to get voice navigation. Is there any reason for this? I am using a 5800 with v31 and im using maps v3.04. Although with both v3.03 and 3.04 the same problem was there.

I can play anything just fine(streaming music or MP3/FLAC/WAV files stored on the phone).When I'm listening to the car stereo itself(CD, FM/AM, etc), I usually leave the phone plugged in. If I want to use Google Maps voice navigation, I'll have to physically disconnect the 3.5m audio cable if I want to hear the voice navigation on my phone. i have maps 3.04v? i used Nokia Suite to transfer maps of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia and Serbia. Nokia Suite also transferred Europe base map. But i think i can only view base map of Europe. I cant view detiled maps of cityies.
