View 8 RepliesAbout a month ago I bought the Nokia 5800 as I wanted the free Sat Nav, I have version 3.01 on the phone, when I phoned Nokia about something else I asked them about version 3.03 and they told me I could not install this until I had used all the days of my 10 free trial, then I was to ring them again and they would help install it for me, after 55 minutes on the phone we had no joy, so I decided to try myself and did it first time. Now the question I need answered with your help is, I am going to Italy in June and when I open the GPS (offline) it works fine in the UK where I live, and when I input the town Pisa, Italy it finds it on the maps, does this mean that the Sat Nav will work in Italy or is this just a map?
When you download version 3.03 does it download all the maps? Also is there anyway I can find out which maps I have on the phone?
I`ve tried to upgrade my Nokia 6210 Navigator from Nokia maps 2.0 to Ovi maps 3.01 but it. Doesn’t seems to work. If i try to upgrade it with the old Nokia map updater it just says: Cannot get enough information about the phone unspecified error. Can anyone tell me if this is possible? I also get a error message when i try to use this file that ovikovi posted (http://static.s2g.gate5.de/nokiamaps client/nokia_ maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis). The error message that shows up in the phone is: It doesn’t work to install this file, the unit is built in! And in Ovi Suite it says: The file is in use. Another application is using nokia_ maps_3.01_09wk44_b01_s60_3.1_lm_rom.sis /I´ve also tried to uninstall the version og Nokia maps that is installed on the phone but that doesn’t seems to be an option ! Any one who has a clue of something that can solve my problem?
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I was prompted to install the new version of Ovi suite today, and I couldn't help but think "I wonder if this new version will support Nokia's top-end phone, the N900?" How foolish I was to think such a thing. Seriously, what's going on? How on earth can you release a phone as one of your top-end phones and not even be bothered to get the support ready for it before you release it?
Lots of my friends want to buy iPhones and I always say "Nah, the N900 is so much better" because I really believe that hardware-wise, it is far superior. But the software for it, and the non-existant support from Nokia really must (or SHOULD) be an embarrasment for the company. When are Nokia's loyal customers going to be treated as such?
Just wondering if anyone else has tried using the (new) Nokia Map Loader with the N900? According to http://maemo-freak.com/index.php/miscellaneous/1379-map-loader-for-maemo-devices-announced this new version should work with the N900 but it fails on both my Win7 and WinXP machines (both 32-bit). Amusingly, the Nokia web site specifically says to use Mass Storage Mode if you're using an N900 so I obediently did so, but then the software itself told me I must use PC Suite mode so I gave that a go and it failed too. I have run Ovi Maps on the device several times so I know the directories are there, it just seems a shambles.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI do really have serious problem. I have nokia N900 which is U.S.A. I was trying to update through flasher, then the phone doesn't complete booting I mean just stuck on booting. I did try another version, and also doesn't work. The phone only accept one or tow version which is a Global RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM and Middle East version RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM. Just accepting the old version. When I update to latest version, it just stuck for more than 4 hours on the 5 dots or booting.
I did read almost or all the posts talking about this problem and no one worked with me. I did flash it with EMMC first then OS but also nothing happened. And when I flash with the old global, the phone boot up and work fine but when I check the IMEI there is nothing show up. And there is red line on the top on the sim card. I tried many SIM card. But nothing work. I hope I can find solution.
NOTE: The phone out of warranty.
Can someone tell me how to download maps to the N900. Please don't tell me the only way to use maps is over a wifi or packet connection! That would make it unfeasible to use when on holday because of data costs! Also is anyone else struggling to get a gps signal? Also when are we going to get turn by turn guidance.
View 18 Replies View RelatedI am trying to download MAPS 3.0 onto my N900 via Nokia PC Suite. The instructions tell me to connect my phone via USB in Mass Storage Mode but MAPS 3.0 tells me to connect it in PC Suite mode. When I do this, I get a flashing message saying 'waiting for phone'.
I've tried connecting in both mass storage and PC Suite but the flashing message remains and I am getting frustrated as this is supposed to be easy to complete!
How to re-route navigation easily (should do it automatically) in Maps?
Scenario:
1. Set target address and let Maps calculate route. so far, so good
2. Start driving. As long as you stay "on route",things are ok
3. You notice that Maps route is not optimal and start driving your own route. Maps does not care.
4. In order to re-calculate route from your current GPS position to same target address. Maps UI gets very clumsy. First you need clear the map, re-enter the target address (well..luckily it's still in search window), ask to Maps to re-route. While doing all this, your car is prob. out of the road already. Why Maps doesn't re-calculate the route automatically when it detects that the GPS position is well "off-the-route". My friend was using his iPhone 3GS + navigation. It did the thing as expected.is this common behaviour of Nokia Maps, or just the N900 version that lags well behind other versions.
In a call with Michael Halbherr, Nokia's VP of Social Location, we were told that the new Ovi Maps would arrive on the flagship N97 very shortly. It's currently a "software logistics issue" related to the maturity of the N97 device. N900 owners shouldn't hold their breath, though, as Nokia is focusing on bringing its free navigation service to the next generation of Maemo devices. That's not to say that the N900 won't get it eventually, only that it's not currently on the roadmap.
So will there be no OVI-Maps-Update be available for maemo5 ?

View 11 Replies View RelatedI updated my phone's fw to find out there's no Maps for it at the Nokia web site. When trying to start the app, it prompts me to update itself which seems to be impossible. Is there any way to delete the maps icon? I don't want to have it around if it is useless.Or, is there an older installer that my phone accepts, somewhere to be downloaded?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently had to reset my nokia n73 after a long time, then I noticed it can't afford the OVI version of Maps - it used to run the first Maps release, the "Nokia pc suite", which I can't find anywhere. Is there really no way I can install a (whatever) version of Maps?
View 8 Replies View RelatedBy default, my phone now has Ovi Maps v3.03 10wk12 b05, when you install the newest firmware.. On the other hand, Nokia homepage currently offers v3.03 10wk11 b04 for my phone. So does the Nokia page offer older version, or do I misunderstand the version numbering? Any idea why the homepage would offer older version?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI updated my N97 to version 2 yesterday and downloaded the news maps OTA, but it says it is version 3.01. Isn't the latest one 3.03?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just purchased the new N900 phone. First impression is it looks very good and works well, BUT still lacking the key features of the N96 such as:
Ovi Maps does not provide voice navigation. Java is not supported so such brilliant apps such as the Opera browsers can not be installed onto it. PC suite is not yet available it the phone. So at first glance it is a great phone that could match the IPhone, but more work needs to be done to it to make it the all singing and dancing phone that Nokia needs it to be. If i am wrong on these points could someone point me in the right direction of addressing them
1- I have installed PC SUIT suitable for nokia N900
2- Also installed nokia map loader version 3.0
Now all is fine. Isn't it? So they said first start nokia map application till it load completely then close it. I did. Then connect ur phone on PC SUIT MODE and also I did that. Then all I get on nokia map loader app is "Waiting for the phone" thats it and phone already connected I tried in both modes pc suit and mass storage but still the same "Waiting for the phone" and I am waiting too.
Again, I am starting the topic of Nokia Map Loader. I have read all the topics regarding this issue here and on other forums, nothing works for me. I can't seem to have a way of downloading the Europe maps, when I go to the Pc Suite mode, the phone drive is visible and download is almost possible but when I choose a map, even a small one, the disc space information shows e.g. -53MB available space. If I go to the mass storage mode, in accordance with the instructions here:
http://europe.nokia.com/support/product-support/maps-support/compatibility-and-download#/nokia-n900/
I get the info message: One of the phones is connected in mass storage mode... And when I tick the info box, waiting for phone appears and nothing happens. Map loading to N900 is a JOKE my friends. If anybody can help me, I'd be grateful. I have tried deleting the cities folder and then recreating it once more. My PC operating system is WIndows 7.
after having done the migration from Nokia pc suite to Ovi, upgraded the Map software and loaded french map, i cannot use map software.I click on it, then it seems to launch, and after 2 seconds i come back to the menu.
Impossible to uninstall the Map software
I have put a 8GB memory card in my new phone. When I try to update my Nokia maps the uploader only installs nokia maps v1.0. Uploader says I have version 0.0.13h? It won't install the latest maps version 3.0. I copied the files from the memory card which came with the phone to my 8GB card but this doesn't fix the problem.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Nokia 500 with Belle installed (vers: 111.021.0028) and Nokia Suite vers 3.6.36.On the 17.12.2012 I've installed the latest version of Romania maps: 00.02.47.103 and since then I get the same error message 'car navigation cannot start at this location'. I can access the maps, I get the correct position but the problem occurs when I try to navigate to any address. It doesn't seem to have an actual issue with the location because I've tried several locations in Bucharest and got the same error.
View 8 Replies View RelatedAfter just paying alot of monies for this handset, I feel let down...
1. Most obvious and talked about is the OVi Maps update. Iv read this is on its way, I hope its soon!
2. No MMS
3. No SMS without conversations, I hate conversations. I hate that nokia are copying iphone...
4. No copying of old SMS to N900. I was a N86 8MP user before this handset arrived today. I have about 1 to 2 THOUSAND messages, from over the years and Im a texaholic, so I NEED to save them....
5. No extra data connections, With O2 UK, I would normally have 3 connections:
O2 MMS
O2 WAP
O2 GPRS
But in addition to this, the new sim cards, automatically have a O2 postpay wap connection. So, I would like to have as many connections as I can!
6. No editing contact number description text. With, another let down, I have hundreds of contacts and about 10-30 of those have more than 2 or 3 numbers. For example, my workplace contact. I had like 10 to 11 numbers, plus other details, such as notes and emails all stored under 1 contact! For each number and note, I edited the text so I know exactly whos number it was, or what that text related to
I sure there's more, but atm since turning it on, charging, updating to latest firmware and first time boot with sim card, this is what I have found so far...
is it true, the N900 does not have a compass and free Nokia maps navigation is not available to the N900?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been using an N900 for more than a month now and I had an iph0ne 2g before. Yesterday, I was trying to locate a place (London) using Ovi maps and I got completely lost. I never had such a problem before with google maps which pinpoint my location much more precisely (using EDGE) than Ovi maps using GPS. It might be that I am just dumb but has anyone had the same experience? how can I make Ovi maps more precise? using 3g instead of GPS?Many thanks for your time reading this and your reply if any.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI came to know that we can use OVI Maps in Offline in N900 from the below url
http://maemo.nokia.com/n900/tips/maps/. But it asks a connection to proceed and search in OVI Maps doesn't work well. As well the locations are not auto populated. guide me to use OVI Maps effectively in offline in N900.
FYI, I downloaded the required maps in to my N900 using Nokia OVI Suite
I tried to install Ovi maps 3.03 but during the installation, it says there's not enough memory and it asks me to delete something from the C:. But I didn't really put much in C: and I don't know what I can delete without affecting the system. So, when I open "Maps" now, the old version still pops out (it says 3.01 when I click into "About"),but apparently the installer in the PC suite thinks I have 3.03 already. What should I do?
View 9 Replies View RelatedWith the trial I had with 3.0.1 I was able to use Maps and it's history. When I clicked to travel by car, set destination, I was able to select 'History' there. The strange thing is, since I upgrade to 3.0.3 / FW40 (latest free version) the 'History' option was gone. Only Search and From maps are still available. I did a lot of navigation since the installation but the 'History' button did not came back. At first I thought it was something with the software but I did a Hard-Reset (Camera+Green+Red) and did an update using SW-update. Still the same. I formatted my microSD card just before I did the reset just to make sure it wasn't the data on the card. I also downloaded the Europe maps for offline instalation but this does not resolve the issue. Any ideas? I could not find an answer on the internet.
