Nokia :: How To Terminate / Cancel / Abort / Kill Application
Jan 29, 2010
I have withnessed applications in loops and did not find any other means to terminate them than to re-power the handset. The last time I was listening to a wma -music file loaded from the coms-with-music library when the player checked (and checked and checked) for the rights to use the music. It just kept playing but the checking never ended and locked the player. I'm sure that there must be some trick to terminate such an application without having to shutdown the phone.
How to kill an app which stopped working? Something happened with my Lumia 800 and MS Word hangs on creating a new document, but Excel continues to work.

i have just bought the Xperia X10 phone and i think am having trouble with it already. This is my first Sony Ericsson i am normally a Nokia girl.
Problem 1 is: when i press the back arrow on the bottom right hand of the phone i doesnt automatically go back it seems to think about it for about 5 minutes or so.(not all the time but quite alot of it) should it be faster than this. do you think i need to take the phone back and get it looked at
Problem 2 is: when downloading an application how do i cancel it because i have realised that some of the apps that i am downloading are American and i am in Australia so they are of no use to me now.
Problem 3: how do you delete sms's
Problems 4: when you recceive an sms does it come up on the screen at all or do you have to look at the top left hand corner of the screen to see if there is a little envelope there?

So, got excited about the MotoACTV this past Saturday and bought online through Motorola. Realized soon after that my local REI had it in stock and I had a xmas gift certificate. Went to REI and purchased it - (Canceled my order for the Garmin 910XT in the process) Went back to the site to try and cancel my order but the 'Cancel items or order' button on my order page wasnt' functional. No biggie, I'll call. After being passed around to the same 3 depts TWICE, I was finally told the ecommerce section was closed for the weekend. Once again, I understand that.I then call on Monday, they tell me the order hasn't yet shipped but I'm not allowed to cancel it at that point. Don't quite understand and getting a bit frustrated at this point but whatever, I'll deal. Customer rep tells me that they'll issue a return slip and email it to me.
OK, I'm good with that.Wednesday comes and still no email with return slip. I call, go through the same 3 depts again and get someone else who tells me that it takes a while to get the return slip but I'll have it within 24 hours.24 hours goes by, I call again and get hung up on 3 times in the process before I can ever get to anyone. Once I get someone on the line, they tell me that it should be to me within the next couple of days... A RETURN SLIP?Once I finally lost my temper a bit, they said it would be 'escalated' and that I should be receiving it within a few hours... we'll see. They also let me know that I could not return it without the receipt.Meanwhile, I've completely soured on the one that I purchased and I'm considering returning it as well and changing my order back to the Garmin. By the way, I called Garmin's support team just to compare... night and day!
I have been having problems with my Nokia Messaging and I have deduced the problem is to do with my Nokia Messaging account and the email I have associated with it. I know this because I was able to use another (old) Hotmail account on the device but when I try and set up my current Hotmail account I get problems.
I was wondering could someone please tell me how I can delete or cancel my Nokia Messaging account so I can start fresh again and assign my current email with the new account?
I'm solving little bit annoying alarm feature in my phone. Imagine that you have alarm set as DAILY at 6 in the morning. In the morning I snooze the alarm after first ringing by sliding the bar snooze. In alarm settings, there is a comment that alarm is "delayed to 6:10" (because of my 10minute setting). The question is, how to remove this snoozed alarm without waiting to 6:10 ? If you choose deactivate alarm, then you have absolutely deactivated your daily alarm, after activating back it is still snoozed to 6:10. The only option is
a) wait until it starts ringing and choose STOP
b) delete snoozed alarm and set the new alarm with 6:00 and daily repeating
Does anyone know how to solve this problem??? How to quickly say to alarm: Cancel snoozing mode and turn back into normal settings ?
I have an N9 and while trying to download a map it got stuck on the "Installing" phase which is permanantly "paused" with no button to cancel. I was trying to download all maps in Europe - the map it got stuck on is for Greece.I cannot cancel it and the problem remains even if I close the application or even restart the phone.
Lately my phone at random times will get very hot to the touch and the battery life drops to 0% and shuts down. If i catch it heating up and shut down and restart it seems to stop but does it again and again
Settings>Battery and Data Manager>Data Delivery, then there is Background Data, Data Roaming, and Data enabled. I will be traveling to Canada where I will have a voice and txt mssg plan, but I don't want to use data. When I de-select Background Data, it warns me that some apps still may use data!As far as I can tell, de-selecting Data Enabled and Background data should prevent any data transmission, but still allow for voice and txt. Am I understanding that correctly?
There is a helpful app my freind showed me on his iphone called killbackground but they only way u can get it is if u jailbreak your iphone why cant they just put this app on the app store because it is very helpful because it closes all your app the u had open with a touch of a button.
Whenever I take a look at my battery usage on my Photon, I always see Music and Media rather high in the list. In fact when I checked just now Media was at 12% and Music was at 11%, 3rd and 4th in the list. (The phone's only been on for about 90 minutes.) Since both of these apps suck, I have other apps that I use for photos (QuickPic) and music (MixZing) and don't bother using the built in apps. It's bad enough that I can't remove these apps, but the fact that they're adding extra drain on the battery adds injury to insult. When I inspect the running apps, for Music I found AmgSyncService running which appears to be part of MotoBlur. Searching the web the only thing I was able to find was a similar question posted on the xdaDevelopers forum. I suspect there is a similar process running for photos as well, but it hasn't shown up in my list of running processes.
Other than manually killing the AmgSyncService process everytime I start the phone, is there any way to disable this process to prevent it from starting up?
New HTC One X owner here; plenty of previous experience with a HTC Desire; however coming to the One X I'm really missing the functionality of the settings/menu button that was available on the desire.
It seems as though most apps put the settings button as an option onscreen top right, however in the default 'navigation' app, there doesn't seem to be any way to kill this without either
a) Arriving at the destination and hitting the exit option
b) Opening the task killer and manually stopping the app
From what I've watched apparently the app switcher window is supposed to be able to kill apps (by swiping up) however this does not kill the navigation app.
CardioTrainer seems to always boot at startup. I cannot kill the application nor can I remove it. How to remove this app or at least stop it from automatically starting?
I have read help files about the default auto-kill option in the task manager. But it does't explicitley specify which apps can be added to the auto-kill list. I would like to way to know which of the stock apps can be added to the list. I have noticed that my battery usage for idle phone in the range of 30-35% (which I believe a bit high). May be the default apps I already have added to auto-kill are required by motoblur and hence started automatically, thus causing a loop.I have installed only 3 apps uptill now so i am sure they arn't causing this problem
Blackberry has a remote 'Kill' command to erase all user data in case the device is lost or stolen. I have only seen articles referring to accessing a BES Admin screen, which I do not have.I use my own email server but I do go through the BES to get to it.Can I deploy the Remote Kill from my laptop or do I need to call Verizon or BES if my phone is lost or stolen?I have a lot of sensitive data on my device which I need on a daily basis.
My wife's Droid 4 makes a point of telling everyone what network she's using when the phone rings and when reconnecting after being in a dead spot. It's pretty annoyingI've been through all of the set up menus and can't figure out how to turn this off
A few years ago my work blackberry was stolen while I was traveling. My office was able to send a command to the blackberry to instruct the phone wipe its data. Fast forward to yesterday when I lost my personal blackberry with AT&T. I would like a similar command to be sent to the lost phone. I brought it up with AT&T customer service who have never heard of such a thing.
