I have a trusty 6600 (that neither slides nor folds!) but find that I can't use the normal PC Suite that is Win7 compatible; I must use a device-specific version. However, the device specific version doesn't support Windows 7. So I am stuck. Is there a workaround to either force the device-specific version to work on Win7 of get the 6600 to work with the normal PC Suite?

I am running windoze 7 with all updates etc. I have the latest version of nokia Ovi Suite and the latest version of Nokia PC Suite. I am reluctantly trying to get used to using ovi suite instead of PC ever since Nokia's update page seemed to suggest I should be using OVi suite with this phone.
Anyway bluetooth connection is working fine. I can do all syncs with everything on bluetooth. USB connection is not, when the phone is connected, and I select PC Suite on the phone, the phone and PC then get stuck in a sort of loop where the PC is "installing drivers" and the phone keeps asking me to select PC Suite mode. Occasionally I get an error message saying I am stuck in file transfer mode.
I have also tried this after going into settings and setting USB connection mode to PC SUITE only, with Don't Ask selected.
This is profoundly frustrating and also renders the ability to update phone software totally useless because you cannot update via bluetooth, only USB connection.
I am getting mighty peeved off with Nokia's ability to get firmware, and software products right. Come on guys, hire some decent developers, and/or start responding to feedback from customers like me. (I'd happily beta test any software, I've done it before for an online game......!!!!)
I am considering selling my N97 online, and just buying an unlocked HTC HD2 after over a decade of using Nokia phones.
I use Ovi Suite, download a map of Beijing documents, Ovi suite shows "preparing to download the map", the pop-up "Ovi Suite 2 Stopped Working". Why is this the case?

I'm getting really frustrated trying to Install the Ovi Suite Installer 2.2.0.241 on my Thinkpad T400. I still have about 8G free, but the installer hangs at about 50%. I have tried to install numerous times, with and without restarting the machine., but get the same unsuccessful results. For now I have to do with the Nokia PC Suite which was successfully installed, but I really look forward to using the OVI.
I just purchased a Nokia N97 mini after having spent 5 years on Windows Mobile due to hardward and software issues. I hope I did not make another mistake by moving back to Symbian! Even when I cancel the installation, it still hangs.
After a long time of not using Ovi suite, I downloaded yesterday the newest version from the Ovi suite.
When I ran the installer, it said that I'm installing the newest version, but after installing and running ovi suite, I get a message that a newer version was found(even though I was on 2.1.1.1) and that it wants to update to it. Fine, I said, updated. Version stayed 2.1.1.1.
After that, I connected my phone, a 5800. This was nightmare. Ovi started syncing, and got stuck on syncing photos. It took me about 20 to CANCEL the photos syncing.
Afterwards, I started backing up my phone. This went OK through out the entire process, except the ending - Ovi got stuck and had to be closed.
After closing Ovi, I noticed a process, Nokiamserver, that was eating my disk with reading. It kept reading and reading and reading. I eventually had to close it because I just could not work with that process reading so much from the disk.
The overall Ovi interface is very slow as well. Everything takes its time to load, everything moves slowly. I was quite disappointed with that.
Nokia - can you make a good syncing program that will really compete with iTunes? That will work good and fast?
I've trawled through quite a few posts and I'm struggling to find the answer to my current issue with PC Suite, Ovi Suite & Windows 7.

Previously I used Windows Vista with my Sony Vaio Laptop without any issues. However Sony sent me some Windows 7 Upgrade Discs and of course I upgraded without looking into issues as I was sure that Nokia Software would be 7 Compatible, guessing i was wrong. Neither of the 2 applications can connect with my Phone since upgrading to Windows 7.
Both just sit there on the Connectivity Screen and eventually inform me that they cannot connect to the device or no device present. Inside my Device Manager i have several errors which are obviously causing my error. The following Names are displayed as NOT INSTALLED.

I've removed and re-installed both Ovi Suite and PC Suite and still the drivers dont appear. I've tried to remove and reinstall the devices via Device Manager, but Windows still reports the devices as NO Drivers. Where can i get these drivers from so PC Suite / Ovi can connect to my Device? Nokia Ovi Player works and transfers music with no problems, so the Cable is fine

i am not able to connect my N8 to OVI Suite since I installed the Windows 8 Consumer Preview operating system. My USB port is working fine as I am able to charge and connect in media transfer mode. It just doesn't work when the OVI suite mode is enabled.how I can work around this please. I use OVI suite a lot as I do most of my messaging through the PC. When will Nokia release a new edition of the OVI Suite that will work well with Windows 8. On once occasion, I was able to reinstall OVI suite by right clicking and selecting Windows 7 in compatibility settings and by running the program as administrator. However, even that doesn't seem to be working anymore.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've recently got my hands on a Nokia 6600 Slide, and I'm quite happy with it. I would also like to use it as my personal music player, but I have one issue.When I listen to music, I mostly listen to the whole albums, and in the case of most albums I listen to, the track order matters a lot. However, when I copy an album from my hard disk to the memory card of my phone, I cannot get the album to play in the correct track order.
For instance, I click "Play" on an album I select in the Music Player application. Then, rather than playing tracks 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and so on, it plays track 4, 3, 6, 2, 7, 1, and so on - this track order is always the same (for one album at least), and it seems I cannot correct it. The "shuffle" function is turned off, mind you. The files are usually named "number. title.mp4", or "artist - number - title.mp4", and they all have track tags.
My 6600 slide starts up but complains that "Phone memory almost full. Delete items?" but before I can select any to delete, the backlight turns off and won't come back on or turn off fully. Only way to continue is remove battery to reboot. But then the same thing happens. There are way too many messages stored, I know, but just can't delete any. Is there a way to access with the computer and do the deletes?

I have never had a mobile phone that has such poor signal quality,and it drops calls due to this.Just a question to nokia I quote:When designing this phone and you located the antenna at the bottom of the phone where 90% of the time when you pick it up it gets covered, did you not think it would have an affect on the ability of the phone to pick a signal up.When I turn the phone upside down I get a brilliant signal and the 3g network is a lot stronger. I can't cope with this anymore and using a phone I had 3 years ago only because it works!Come on nokia help us out as am tied into a 18 months contract with a phone that is useless even though all the other features are good. I believe there should be a recall on this phone as I have compared signal strengths with other nokias and makes and they are far better.

I updated my phone to version 6.20 from an older version that was 5.xx . after the update my 6600 fold freezes when i press number 6 or rapid press. I did not have this problem before the update i can see that its an old problem of the device hope nokia will fix this problem.

The ability to pull music, video, and other files off of a computer at home makes the most sense when used with an always-on computer that also happens to hold all of the desired files. Advertisements have stated 'Windows' compatibility, but Home Server is not a common platform and it is based upon the kernel from Server 2003 which has been made obsolete by a newer Microsoft server OS.In addition, if it does run, can Motocast be installed to run as a service? This would allow it to always be running (in case of resets / power failures) and would be most helpful since Windows Home Server is designed to run 'headless' and unattended.

I was successfully using Nokia Maps GPS navigation having purchased a license key for UK/Ireland in January 2011. I have an external bluetooth GPS device. Howver, the Maps license key has now expired (as expected, it was a 1-year licence). Without a license I cannot use the voice-guided navigation function.When I go throoug the phone menus to purchase a 1-year license again, I get to the menu that asks which payment method I wan to use (I select Visa). At this point the screen just refreshes, with no message or error code. I am not asked for payment card details. I cannot get past the "payment method" menu.
This process worked just fine for me in Jan 2011 when I first purchased a license, and other web browing functions using the built-in web browser are just fine. I have tried refreshing the Nokia software (It was already at V6.55, which is the latest level).

The reason I ask instead of having two pieces of software is i want to a Vista/XP (two machines) clean install followed by a Ghost DVD so the smaller image the better (plus i dont like to have **bleep** installed on my machine:-)

I have a Nokia E71, and i was using Nokia PC Suite to sync it with my outlook 2007 it all worked fine, contacts, to do notes and calendar (i wasn't syncing mail cuase i use gmail), untill the new ovi suite came out and i decided to try it since It sounded better.turns out It really sucked this ovi suite!! one of the worst softwares I've ever used, it duplicated all of the appointments that had color categories in outlook 2007, it is dead slow to sync!!!(i mean reeeaaly slow), even tough the Suite integrates more stuff in to one place it has reduced funcionality to sync stuff with my phone, it offers less funtions, not to mention that the user interface sukcs (its poorly desingned, it takes long to accses stuff, it shows me stuff as if it was advertisement).PC suite was very simple but funcional, oviously i went back to pc suite, to my surprise i couldn't sync, pc suite & the phone would do as if they were syncing, but when i checked at the end it wouldn't sync stuff.

I checked bluetooth device that im using, and made sure that phone bluetooth is on. In Attachment is shown how PC Suite and Bluetooth react when i try to reconnect the phone.
View 8 Replies View RelatedHave a N900. Got the phone to work against Smart Suite and later Ovis Suite very well for the first 3 weeks. Then the trouble started. I used it both with USB cable and BTooth. First my synchronization with Lotus Notes calendar stopped (have to go by the PC), then contacts and messages. And today it does not even recognize the phone as a compatible phone. In the whole period I have been installing all kind of applications. My suspicion is that the trouble is due to an installation of a particular application - my question is:Anyone that got an idea what might have caused this?? Hope for help without re-intsalling the machine.

Wll, when I tried connecting my phone, it says "Your phone is having troubles" error message. The instruction says to power off the phone. But no luck. Tried searching MS community but nothing there (but I won't rule out I didn't search well. Also, I posted the same question there and waiting for a response.)
