when i was using the Motorola SF600 headphones (nothing the break the fall when i dropped the unit) and the screen cracked. Ok no problem, cracked screen still works i can live with it. Now today my screen is blanking in and out basically i cant see anything on the screen. This sucks, the SF600 headphones failed me twice i should have never even tried them.Let me note I still have my 32gb 1g ipod touch which has been smashed and dropped on cement so many times guess what screen never cracked, not once the thing still works for crying out loud! Sad thing is i might buy another unit but motorola really has some suspect issues. I am thankfull i bought this unit from amazon warehouse deals and was issued a credit due to an incompelte box so out of pocket was maybe $150. But jeezus Motorola lets make some stufff that can last and survive an accidental drop.
Over the past two weeks, I have observed that my MOTOACTV has twice entered a Failure Mode in which current drawn from the battery in Standby if far higher than spec and even higher than playing music through wired headsets only. The cause is unknown, but may be related to another MOTOACTV Failure Mode - music player freak out. In the first instance, I left the unit in Standby at 70% charge and found 14 hours later that it had turned itself off - battery depleted. I powered it up, charged it and was surprised during my run to find that my SF200 wired headset line switch was functional again - the music player had not responded to the SF200 line switch for several days.
In the second instance, late on Tuesday night Feb 28, I noticed that the state-of-charge of my battery was sliding rapidly and placed it on the charger. After my morning run the next day, I charged it fully and monitored the battery. The result is charted in the image below. According to published specifications, the MOTOACTV should last 325 hours on one full charge. I have conducted extensive battery tests on my unit and have never been able to achieve a Standby discharge rate much better than 0.71%/hr or 140 hours full discharge equivalent. The Standby battery life spec should be revised. As published, it is misleading at best. In Failure Mode - Excessive Battery Drain in Standby, I measured a Standby discharge rate of 6.73%/hr or just under 15 hours of battery life in Standby on a full charge.
I do not know why my unit enters this Failure Mode. But I know I am not alone. AlmariaTeach is probably replacing his unit right now to remedy what looks like the same issue. But his device could not be cured by rebooting or factory reset, so it may have been a more advanced case. In both instances, a power-off reboot restored 'normal' Standby power use behavior and revived a non-functioning music player line switch to perfect working order.
I want to change my screen name on the MotoActv website. How do I do this? When I go into settings, it doesn't allow for this, only things like height, weight, password, etc..
Is it possible to setup the motoactv such that the screen open when I tap on it?Otherwise, what do people do to open the screen when it is mounted on a bike mount? So far, I had to click the small button, but this is clearly not optimal when riding at 40km/h and you want to see that you are really at 40km/h :)
last week my screen was staying ON whether the screen time out was checked or Not checked..This week, the opposite..the screen in both scenerios (time out checked or not checked), is first dimming and then going black screen?
In non-workout mode, my MotoACTV screen unexpectedly goes dark after only a few seconds.
In workout mode the screen dims, a lot, after only a few seconds. For example: If I set the timeout for 30 minutes, it runs the full 30 minutes and goes dark. No problem so far, right?
But when I "wake up" the device by hitting the power button, the screen goes dark again (or dims in workout mode) in about two seconds and will not return to normal unless I go back into settings and reconfigure the timer.
I tried a factory reset, unchecking the workout screen timeout, no difference. Also, why is it that some uploaded workouts say "no raw data available"?
I have enjoyed my motoactv to a certain degree, despite portal failures, bugs, and the like, but my latest experience is very disappointing.Add me to the list of persons that has had the device fall and develop a hairline crack in the screen. Ok I've seen the other horror stories on the forum about support. My device works fine, but I don't want it to get wet now with the screen crack.
I opened a call, and since I am from Canada, I was given a repair location that is right in my home city. Perfect! However they refused to even look at the device, claiming they repair Motorola phones but not the motoactv. I provided the Motorola ticket number and explained that Motorola referred me to them. They couldn't care less and refused to accept the device. I regulary use a US address, and so opened up a new case; and shipped my device to the US. The *very* day within hours of receiving notification that I would have to pay to have the motoactv fixed, (This is not a problem for me.) I phoned in and requested that the repair be made, and provided payment by credit card.I have a Gran Fondo event in Mid July, and will *definitely* be using my Garmin. Looks like I have perhaps totally wasted my money on this device, although for now I can use it as an mp3 player when I go to the gym......
Is there another option that exists that would allow me to get my metrics read out on-demand (not looking for auto-intervals)?I hate tapping the screen for this. It doesn't seem to work unless I slap it about 4-5 times. I'd like to be able to just press a button sequence, double press a button, maybe press & hold the screen etc. to get metrics on demand.
just picked up the Motoactv, and I've noticed the backlight does not turn on when I use the device? The screen still displays properly but without backlight.
Has anyone noticed any screen seperation from the metal backing? My Motoactv is always in the watch band, and today I decided to take it out to wash the band. When i removed the device I noticed something very disturbing, the metal back on one corner has movement, i.e. The body seems to have come away from the screen ever so slightly. If I squeeze the device there is slight movement and a slight squeak noise?
Mine is exactly same problem as the one posted below I think it is definately a design fault. url...Im have problems with support for my motoactv I bought it in us bu live in UK, Australia and Jakarta. The support chaps are telling me that I need US address and are refusing to offer me any support. My device fell out of the armband about a metre on wood floor when i was at the gym and the screen cracked from the corner. This seems to be a common issue with the device. Is has been going on with support of 6 weeks and they keep sending emails saying it has been resolved, when it most certainly has not.
If marathon mode is set and screen timeout is set after you power down the unit and then power it up again it keep marathon mode set but looses the screen timeout selection. You have to go in and set screen timeout again before you start the run. I think this is a bug. I saw someone mention it in another posting. I wanted to bubble it to separate thread so a Moto eng could see it and hopefully fix it in the next firmware release.
On the Motoactv Software Upgrade 7.2 release notes it shows a "create workout" screen with options I am not seeing (such as warm-up and cooldown). If I add a new workout, these do not show up as options. Why? Has this update fixed the issue where the unit does not cycle through the stages automatically?
This morning on my run I noticed that no matter what I did the time of day showed in the top left hand corner. It showed on the workout screen, on the settings screen, you name it. It wouldn't go away. In the attached screenshot that is showing time as well as "Workout" all combined into one. Can this be fixed Motorola?
I'm really really really frustrated, so I'm going to try to tone this one down.My Motoactv broke 2 months ago. I sent it in for warranty repair, and they replaced it.he replacement unit had a screen issue. When I powered it on, the screen sort of turned on (you could tell that the backlight was working), but nothing else. No Motorola logo...nothing...just blank backlit screen.I returned it again. They said they fixed (not replaced) it.I use it once. I charge it up and turn it on this morning. Same problem. Blank, backlit screen. When I plug it into my computer it detects it, syncs it, updates software...but the screen is still totally black, with the backlight lit up.
Discovered something annoying today - the touch screen doesn't respond when it gets even slightly cold. It's 46F here today and during my short run, the screen stopped responding to touch. After coming indoors for just a minute or so, it's working fine.I couldn't stop my workout right away, though, so my measurements are off - that's the annoying bit. Has anyone had similar issues?
Kudos to the designer who made the Full Screen Battery Meter you get when you plug it in using the wall charger after it has shut down due to depleted battery. I don't know if this has always been there or if you also get it if you plug it in to your computer after a full discharge or when you plug it in to the wall charger after you power off (without depleting the battery fully). But it sure is a nice touch - a really smooth animated battery meter that fills the entire screen for the little over an hour that it takes to charge from 0% to 100%. Well done, Team MotoACTV
I purchased this phone today, and one annoyance is the icon size on the standby screen. I've had a good look and I can't find anywhere to set them to be smaller? Any ideas?
I recently purchased a Nokia 5130 from a TMobile store, and since I have started using it, I noticed that whenever I activate keyguard and wait for a little bit, the phone screen turns blank and would not show anything at all (I am used to S40 and S60 phones showing a bar with the time and date, the number of unread messages and missed calls showing everytime they are on standby). However, I also noticed that whenever I unlock the keypad and the backlight shows back up, the bar is actually there before it fades away and returns back to the home screen. Could it be that the screen is actually turning itself off whenever it's on keyguard standby?
Sometime, when I push the power button to return from standby, the screen turns black (lighted but displaying nothing, the buttons lighten as well but are inactive). That phenomenon seems to happen randomly. Then I have to push the power button again to turn the phone in standby mode again, and push the button again, after what the phone displays the unlock screen.i never encountered that problem with custom roms, until I re-installed the official stock rom which I downloaded from htc website. Some information about my mobile:
I can't get the email / calendar of the active standby to fill the screen on the E72 that I just picked up.
Can somebody tell me what I'm doing wrong? Do I just need to find a suitable theme? I am at least looking for the width to be used up, but it would be nice to use up some of the vertical space to show an extra email or something.
I know you can use the mute button to go into standby. When you press mute again it turns standby off. Instead of starting at the home screen, my Curve opens the media folder when coming out of standby. How do I control what is the default screen when coming out of standby?
Is it possible to get the wording of pushmails to flash up on the otherwise-on-standby screen for say 10 seconds. If not a setting, is there a widget or something that will do this perhaps?
Just want to ask if 5800 will be able to determined the text messages came from in the standby screen? is it like the samsung phones that you'll already know the person's name who texted you?
I was so excited to read in the specs that this unit had a "scratch resistant touch screen." Problem is, there is a HUGE scratch on the face of my Motoactv after less than a week of ownership.
I'm looking at getting a Garmin 410. I'm not familiar with the different versions of Garmin. I currently have the Motoactv. What can the Garmin do compared to the Motoactv. I know the Garmin doesn't play music and doesn't have a fancy touch screen.
