Motorola Motoactv :: Calories Count Not Resetting?
May 4, 2012
Problem Description: My device did a sw update last night. This morning when I went to put on the device, Steps Count was at Zero (As Expected) and Calorie Count was at 3500. I would tyically see a count of 500 - 600 in the morning. When I took off the device last night it was at 3100. So i am assuming that the unit did not reset the calorie counter at midnight.Any Thought MOT Guys?HW: MOTOACTV 8GBSW: MA 1.6.13 N8
I recieved the Motoactv for Christmas. I was just getting into using it for daily routine baselines when the calorie and steps stopped displaying on the time screen. I noticed this occurence in the morning and thought it was a daily reset issue and it might clear it self. However, 2 days later the steps and calories are still not displaying. I was thinking I could have accidently changes a setting. I have played around through the settings and can't find a selection to turn those on or off.
Since there is no way to bypass a sensor for indoor spin class, I had to set my MA to stairstepper. I chose SS over Eliptical because I assume that the MA device would look for foot movement (to calculate calories) instead of arm movement (because the notes specifically say not to grip the stationary handles on the eliptical). Anyhow, I completed a 60+ minute spin class at vigorous effort for at least half and had an average heart rate around 75% and it said I only burned 300 calories. I know that 1 hr of spin burns close to 600 calories..does the MA device take into consideration the type of exercise chosen (e.g. stair stepper) and uses that activity blended with HR and motion to calculate the calories burned? If that is the case, then MOTO needs to do two things: 1) allow users to bypass sensors for exercise so they can still capture the proper exercise and not a "general" one and 2) create a "general" one for quick start options if someone doesn't care to record the activity type. It all depends on how calories burned are calculated. In the meantime, which activity should I use for Spin class....if the hands don't move, I would think that eliptical is not a good choice. What about running or walking...does that use arm movement also? Overall, would love a little more info on how the measurements are calculated.
I ran the same route uphill and downhill in the same time. In both cases, I got the same number of burned calories.I am very disappointed that MotoACTV has this poor level of calculations/algorithms for such an expensive device.
Does the calories burned counter on the home page (where the timepiece is located) include the calories you burned during your workouts? I thought it did, but when I check my calories burned before I work out, then after, the math doesn't compute.
I must be busy this mroning. My Actv is reading 31343 calories burned and 2887 steps. Anyone else having funkiness like this? Just sync'd and it really messes up my Wellness charts.
I can't imagine this hasn't been asked before, but my search-fu isn't doing too well on these forums. How does someone reset their calories burned and steps taken on their motoactv? Mine says something to the affect of 1200+ steps and 2000+ calories burned... but I imagine that's because it was in my car when I went to and from work. I never used it beyond that and testing at home.
I'd imagine the factory reset will do it, but I don't want to have to start all over again. You would think there would be a simple button to reset those stats.

I had a great workout this morning, but when I was done, the calorie count was at 111. I worked out for 50 minutes and was expecting this to be at least 600.
When I uploaded the data, the calorie count stopped at about 10 minutes into the workout and the distance also stopped incrementing. I had heart rate information, but it was much lower than what I expected (I was working out much harder than the heart rate information shows.).
The image shows the results of the data. what could have caused this malfunction of the device?
I just rollerbladed for 1 hour and 13 minutes, for 8 miles. I am 275 pounds. It told me I only burned 183 calories. That can't possibly be correct. The GPS did track the whole route, and it did get the whole amount of time. What is the issue with this?
I do have my MotoACTV set up correctly with my height, weight, and age.
I am currently using a variable stride elliptical trainer Precor 100i.When using device with watchband, the step count always shows zero. When using the device with armband, the step count is very inconsistent depending on the orientation on the arm (i.e. 40 50 % Difference Between workouts). When using the device with the hip clip the device is consistent within 5% which is good enough. In regards to the watchband. The directions say to not place your hands on the stationary part of the Elliptical. That make sense and since my hands are on the moving parts of the Elliptical I would assume that the multi-axis accelerometer would not have an issue keeping the step count.
I would also assume that the multi-axis accelerometer would not have an issue keeping the step count regardless of orientation on the arm (i.e. Up, Down, Side)I want to use the watchband so that I can get periodic updates on my workout intensity.
As a test I set a goal to walk 200 miles. Since then I have logged 2 rounds of golf (10 miles) but the miles do not count towards my walking goal. But they do count towards my second goal of working out 3 times a week. How do i fix this since golf is my primary walking sport. I want credit for the miles to show in my goal.
I'm a little concerned about the calorie counts it's been giving me; they seem too high. Has anyone else had this issue? Could it be my unit, or was I just underestimating my calorie burn before?
For some reason I have ended up with the unopened message count showing one unopened message. There are no unopened messages on my device. I have cleared the Messages database using the desktop software but the device is still showing one unread message despite there are no messages on my device at all.Any idea how to reset the counter to zero?
I recently moved from US to India and brought with me my favorite Storm 9530. In US I had Verizon as my carrier and I switched to Vodafone in India. Before I switched to Vodafone, there were 5 unread/unheard voice messages and hence my Storm was showing 5 o_o on home screen. After I switched to Vodafone, this count did not reset. I tried all over the web for a solution to remove this notification from my device, but did not find any workable solution.According to my understanding, I thought the count will automatically reset once I activate my Vodafone voicemail, but after I signed up, I realized that Vodafone India does not use "Device Notification" method for voicemails, but sends a SMS everytime you have a VM. With the result, the older count that has been set in my device never gets reset or reinitialized. Is there someone who can give me a solution to reset this? Is there a way/software that will let me access the internal data structures of the device and reset it. My carrier, Vodafone India has already informed me that they cannot help me with this.
A few days ago I went for a run, got back, went on [url]... to see my workout... but it wasn't there. At first I thought it just didn't sync yet, manually synced it, still nothing. After playing around with it for a bit, I started reading through the forums and came across the "Class Action Lawsuit" thread where in the guys rant he says "It constantly resets the date and time so you're workout will show up as 4 months in the past ( not ideal for a training log) "
I planned a fit test yesterday, and a morning interval run today. I have completed both excercises. Both exercises have been logged in my 'recent workouts' tab. In fact, the portal has used the results of my fit test to set my HR zones. But, when I go to workouts on the MotoActv, I still see both excercises as not completed with a "!" next to them. Is there a way to reset this? Is there a workaround?
A funny thing has happened on my 8GB MOTOACTV. Music that I do not have has begun to appear on my device. I originally downloaded approximately 220 songs and have since added another 15. However, my song total now shows at 401 songs, many of which I would NEVER listen to. THere is nothing worse that running and listening to a great song and have the next one be a Bay City Roller or Cyndi Laupner tune. Are these songs being uploaded when I plug into the website? Were they pre-loaded onto the device?
Why is there no way to look at your phone and tell how many text messages you have with out having to go into you text message? I had a samsung charge that had this feature and it was great option. When you are getting emails all day and calendar appointments notification showing up. It is easy to miss text messages notification.
Neither the email icon or the email widget show the number of unread emails. My previous phone (Droid Inc 2) did show how many unread emails were in the account. Does anyone know how to get the icon or the widget to show this? I have an exchange and a mac email set up.
I've owned the MotoActv for two month, I got the mysterious "moisture issues" that everyone seems to be getting even though I've never used it in the rain. But the thing that is driving me nuts is the music. When I hit random shuffle of all my songs, I hear songs I don't want to hear... song that I do not own on my computer. Where are these songs coming from? Today I heard "Boot Scoot Boogie!" I abhore country music as does my wife. Doing a computer wide search shows no evidence that the song exists on my computer. Yet there it is playing in mile four. Other mystery songs have showed up too. The performance music playlist seems to be filled with songs I never heard of, yet evidently I perform well to them.
Let the developers know what new innovations you would like to see in Motoactive. Let them know what Apps, websites, hardware features that are out there that you love and would like to see incorporated into Motoactv.
