Any way to assign the unlock screen text shortcut in ICS to something other than the stock sms app? I prefer GoSMS and would like to assign the unlock shortcut to that if possible. I've tried around in the system settings and wasn't able to find anything there.
View 12 RepliesSo far I really love this phone, but I seem to have stumbled across somewhat of a glitch that I can't figure out yet. This "smartphone" doesn't seem to allow me what a simple BASIC phone always did....and that is to allow me to assign a different ringtone to specific contacts. I do see that it is an option however it won't save the change on some contacts, but it does on others. I select the contact I want to update, I tap the menu option, then select "Options." I open the Ringtone dropdown, select a new ringtone, tap OK....but when I get out to that previous screen - it once again shows the ringtone as default. I don't understand this. Why will it let me save on some, but not others? I compared one contact that didn't save....to another that did save. They both have the same type of info - a mobile number, an email address, a home address, a facebook link, and a birthday listed. One saved - the other did not.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter reading the posts here about assigning a different texting app rather than using VZWs stock texting app, I decided to try it. I disabled the stock app, which DID remove it from the lock screen. It left a blank space. When I dragged down toward it, it opened the camera app instead.
I noticed in Manage Apps> App Info that there is a selection called Launch by Default/No defaults set, and a button marked Clear Defaults. This section is grayed out in every single app in manage apps; how to enable it? I'd like to disable VZW text messaging, and enable Google Talk in its place.
Secondly - after the ICS update, I now have multiple references to the same apps in Manage Apps>All Apps. There are three separate references for Backup Assistant Plus, and two for Google Maps. Looking at App Info, some are the old versions (pre ICS) and some are the new ones (post ICS). Is there a way to delete the old references and clean things up a tad?
I just got out of a live chat w a Motorola rep, and they had no answers either. Or maybe I should quit digging into the phone and just enjoy it? LOL it's like picking at a scab.
I know there are third party screen unlocks. I am wondering if there is anyway to customize the slide apps that appear on screen unlock. When I disabled stock text and got sms pro it defaulted to this. Has anyone else figured out how to customized these apps? My friend is running a JB rom on his nexus and was able to have something like 10(maybe more) customisable apps located on his unlock wheel.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded to the Razr MAXX HD from a HTC Droid Incredible. On the HTC Dinc, when reading an article or something on the phone, if you pinched to zoom making the text larger, it would automatically reformat to fit the width of the phone, so you didn't have to scroll right/left to read the entire line. The MAXX HD doesn't seem to do this. If I pinch and zoom in on text, it just makes the text bigger but doesn't reformat it to fit the width of the phone, so I have to scroll left/right to read the entire line.

Needless to say, my screen broke and I have a new phone arriving today. But I had a few text that I had protected because they were important to me (one a picture of my baby and the second her first text she ever sent) and wondering if there is a way to access the phone through my computer and retrieve the text messages? I can open up the phone folders on my computer, but not sure if there is anything I can do from there.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWe have two razr's both have all the same apps. We use chompsms as our texting app. On one phone it shows on the lock screen (Pic below) on the other it does not. BOTH have the stock app unchecked for default app, neither have disabled the stock app because it causes MMS problems. how one of us has it on our home lock screen and the other can't get it to do that? We didn't go to any settings to do it. BOTH of us had to do a master reset on our phones since the ICS update.
I've compared our settings and they seem to match it's really weird.
create a shortcut to the stock desk clock in ICS? I know I can go into Alarm & Timer-->Settings-->Desk Clock to trigger it but that is a lot of clicking for everytime I want it on. Reason being, I don't have a dock for my night stand and like to use the desk clock at night.I looked through the Android Market, eh...the Google Play store and found a lot of desk clock replacements but nothing that will trigger the one built into ICS?

Well once again this is my weekend and again I usually use Motocast on my days off and lol once again I'm having issues. Tried playing back a video file but alas stops within 30seconds. I play again and it stops within 30seconds. Or Ill start to play a file and it takes seconds upon seconds upon seconds just to play the video file.
I do enable Wifi prior to using Motocast so I wouldnt think it has to do with that; but I am pretty sure that when my graphic shortcut icon goes corrupt so does my actual application for it to work properly.
Question is, why does it keep happening? Is it because my Windows Operating System performs some sort of update and causes it go haywire?
Right I have disabled dial from homescreen and I gone thru all the keys and not one of them opens up my sms inbox is there a way to assign it to a key not being used?

On my razr this is not an option, only a generic gmail shortcut that forces me to keep switching between accounts. Why did Moto delete this feature? I tried the other email app and the widgets for 'scrolling inbox' or 'universal inbox' to see if maybe they would allow links to each account but they dont even work for gmail!

Verizon Wireless tech support was stumped, and no help in the online motorola tech support either.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI frequently hit adjacent keys while texting on my old Droid X. A larger screen and of course 4G and a faster processor were appealing as well. As the Razr HD models sport screens almost as large as the S3 I ran to see them on their first day out of the gates. What a disappointment! Holding my old Droid X up against them I saw that the usable screen sizes were identical. Namely 4.3" unless playing videos in which case the video filled up the Razr HD's 4.7" screen. I couldn't find anything else that would fill up the screen. Perhaps, photos might. But internet browsing, texting and whatever else I tried occupied a 4.3" inset within the 4.7" screen. So why have a 4.7" screen at all? The Galaxy S3 on the other hand fills up the entire 4.8" screen with not only video but everything else, including texting, messaging, web browsing, and everything else I tried. So what gives? Why did you even create a 4.7" screen if you aren't going to utilize it to its full potential?

If my RAZR is plugged into a power outlet and is fully charged, it is very difficult/almost impossible to unlock the screen. I grab the unlock spot on the left ant try to slide it to the right, but it takes several tries, using extra force to get it to slide. Underneath the slide bar I see the message that my RAZR is fully charged and to unplug it from the outlet.If I unplug it first, it unlocks just fine. Guy I work with just got a new one and it's the same way. Just wondering if anybody else has experienced this? Obviously this isn't a big deal, but was just curious.
View 12 Replies View RelatedOn Oct 20, we switched from AT&T to Verizon Wireless after being with AT&T for over 10 years. We had iPhones and had to get new phones when we switched. The Verizon salesperson convinced me and my adult daughter to get the RAZR HD that had just come out and he said it was better than the iPhone. My husband stayed with an iPhone because he is a commercial pilot and needed to use aviation apps that were not available on a DROID phone. Initially we were very impressed with the RAZR HD until my daughter had a problem with hers after just 20 days of use. She is an EMT and was on duty sitting in her ambulance. She has to have a phone on her while working. She used her phone several times and had it in her front pocket. She took the phone out of her pocket to call us and the screen was black and not functioning—a few minutes before it was working fine. She noticed some spider cracks in the LCD at the edge of the screen. She took the phone back to the store where it was purchased and the Verizon salesperson accused her of abusing/dropping it and said she would have to file an insurance claim which would cost $99. I was shocked. Our iPhones had heavy mobile use and were even dropped several times, including on cement, but never failed. I told our daughter we had no intention of filing an insurance claim for a defective product that should be covered under warranty. For all we know, it had damage before we even bought it from Verizon. But when she contacted Motorola, they said a screen failure due to a cracked screen was not covered but she could send it in to be evaluated. When we read the warranty, it does not say this. It says it doesn't cover damage caused by accidents, abuse, misuse, including improper usage or operation, abuse or neglect, or impact damage, such as dropping the phone. The phone had not been dropped, abused, or misused. There is not a scratch or any physical damage on the phone and the glass. The phone failed under normal use. The LCD screen under the glass fractured. Normal use should not cause this unless there was a manufacturer's defect in the phone. I.contacted my dad who works with digital and analog wireless technologies/hardware, and he told us to file a warranty claim. He said the phone has an accelerometer in it that detects G-force and impact and Motorola should provide us the data that shows the phone was impacted outside the tolerance thresholds for normal use. Well clearly Motorola and Verizon are just scamming customers and ripping them off. How convenient for Motorola to automatically tell a client all screen failures are due to customer damage. We should have stuck with iPhones and the AppleCare. Apple stands behind the quality of their products and would have never questioned replacing a phone for a defective LCD, i.e., no broken glass, just screen failure. You get a replacement on the spot. Oh but not Motorola—mail it in and then you are without a phone for how long??? We are going on 24 days now. Motorola got the phone and sent a picture of the phone screen (included) and said it was physically damaged—said it would cost $99 to fix—interesting how that is the same amount as the Verizon insurance deductible. Really--they are insulting my intelligence... I called them up and told them to provide me the accelerometer data—I wanted proof the phone was damaged by us and not defective. They still have the phone and have not responded to my request for over a week now. I told customer service that Motorola should be ready for a fight—we will file a report with the FTC and the BBB if they don't repair or replace the phone at no cost. I am very angry about this poor customer service. If we dropped the phone and cracked it up, well that is what insurance is for and that is why we bought the insurance. I would not expect Motorola to fix a phone for free if we broke it, but this is not the case and it is just outrageous. I am worried the same thing will soon happen to my RAZR HD which has overheated while it was charging. The phone is so thin that any expansion in the case is going to put pressure on the LCD. I am wondering how we are going to make it through a 2-year contract with Verizon when the Motorola phone can't even handle normal mobile use. I used my AT&T iPhone 3Gs for over 3 years before switching to Verizon and the RAZR HD and the iPhone still works well as a Smart device for email, photos and music. Clearly Apple has a superior product and also knows how to take care of customers. We called Motorola customer service again today since we aren't seeing any information online regarding the current status of our phone, and they couldn't even tell us what the status is. They have had the phone for over 2 weeks. If Motorola doesn't do what is right, they will lose us as customers. This is so frustrating.

I can turn it back on by doing soft reset (pressing power button and vol down) when doing soft restart I don´t have to press pin number, as needed when i turn the phone off and back on. When the phone is in the charger there i no problem.

I am using the Razrs text messaging app when I try to delete I get all the correct prompts to delete any message. When I select the last prompt to delete, you go back to the message list. The actual message appears to be deleted but you still see all the people or group you sent to or received from, which makes no sense to me. I have tried deleting and rebooting the device no change.
