Jul 26, 2010I am attempting to help a friend and also satisfy my curiosity. She has a Samsung "Rant" through carrier Sprint. She said that after her phone was turned off for non-payment, she can no longer use the phone. She claims she has been remotely locked out, as if you set a security lock code and forgot it, that kind of locked out. She swears the company locked her out to keep her from getting at her contacts. Is this even possible? I googled and the only thing I can find is blacklisting lock outs using the ESN, which I already realize. But to actually lock the hardware remotely, is another thing. I know they can remotely unlock. What is her best option to recover those important numbers, and do all carriers actively do this sort of thing (if it's even true?)

My previous 8900 worked fine? I have been on the phone with the carrier the entire day and they have not been able to resolve it. However, he has since informed me that the phone is locked and is not accepting the local sims. Now I feel this may have been my fault because I've heard you need to use a couple UK sims before going abroad which I never did. Anyway, I wanted to grab an unlock code for him to use but all the websites ask what network the phone is locked to, which he can't find since it was originally unlocked from Argos.
So in summary, I need to somehow find out if the phone is locked to a network even though the phone was bought unlocked. Pretty confusing, I know.

I wish I could have a cdma iphone for sprint.
I hope Sprint and Apple work something out, because verizon sucks.
