Bought iPhone 4 on eBay as unlocked, but it does not work in Russia. Apple says it is locked but cannot tell me the carrier. How can I know the carrier.

So, I just bought a JB'en iphone 3g tonight.Went ahead and unlocked it using ultrasn0w.Connected it to my mac/itunes, and it asks "an iphone has been previously synced with this computer. setup as a new iphone -or- restore the backup of ***"So, since I had purchased apps using my *** phone (actually was an ipod touch that i got rid of), I'm thinking that I should restore the backup so that I can get my paid apps back for free.
Questions:
-will restoring this backup to the new unlocked phone restore it to its original locked state (i.e. will i have to re-jailbreak/unlock)? or will it simply restore preferences, etc...?
-otherwise, if i call this phone a new name, is there a way to transfer my purchased apps to the new phone's account?
i bought my iphone from jordan and it was locked to orange jordan, now i am living at UAE how can run my phone here ?

I just moved to another country, and purchased a sim card for my unlocked iPhone 5s. After realising I purchased the wrong one, I cut down the micro sim to a nano. It seems like all services are working - I can make calls, receive texts, etc but the carrier name won't appear. Not sure if this is indicative of troubles to come. It appears blank next to the signal strength. Could this be because of the DIY sim card or was my phone not unlocked properly? I had it unlocked through my carrier back home.

When I say use cellular carriers network its telling me the sim card is not recognized and to use it with another carrier. I called AppleCare to confirm that in fact both my wifes and my phone were unlocked and could be used with any carrier. They said yes its unlocked and can be used with any carrier around the world.

There are too many charlotans out there passing off their jail broken phones as "factory unlocked". .Calls to apple are not helpful. I bring it to Brazil, but when I try to use my carrier's SIM card the iPhone locks the system saying "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier my be used to activate iPhone. insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier". When I try to use AT&Ts SIM card (that came with the iPhone but doesnt work here in Brazil) the iPhone unlocks the system. I just want my unlocked iPhone....

I have an iPhone 4S that was recently unlocked by AT&T. Unfortunately, it's developed an issue where all the radios cut out if I talk on the phone for more than a few minutes. Assuming I can get this replaced by Apple, would my unlock carry over to the new phone? I'm thinking of buying an 4s unlocked to use on Simple mobile carrier which they allow iPhones to be used on their not work but don't support it as stated on their website. Giving that it's an unlocked iPhone, all I would need is a Simple mobile sim card and I'm good to go but my question is.... will all features work? It would suck if I bought it at full price just to find out some features may not work on the unsupported network. It would defeat the purpose of having an unlocked iPhone if I can't use it on any GMS carrier.

I purchased an unlocked Nokia 2680 handset in the UK this month to replace a broken handset for my pay-as-you-go O2 sim card. I was told by the representative that the phone was tri-band and would work in the United States, where I live presently. I am emailing from the US where the phone does not work. It does not roam with my UK network (o2), nor will my AT&T sim card work in the phone (sim card registration failed).Any ideas? I thought an unlocked handset bought from an independent provider would work on any network??

I am attempting to help a friend and also satisfy my curiosity. She has a Samsung "Rant" through carrier Sprint. She said that after her phone was turned off for non-payment, she can no longer use the phone. She claims she has been remotely locked out, as if you set a security lock code and forgot it, that kind of locked out. She swears the company locked her out to keep her from getting at her contacts. Is this even possible? I googled and the only thing I can find is blacklisting lock outs using the ESN, which I already realize. But to actually lock the hardware remotely, is another thing. I know they can remotely unlock. What is her best option to recover those important numbers, and do all carriers actively do this sort of thing (if it's even true?)

I have an Apple-unlocked iPhone 3GS which I bought in Australia 2 years ago. It's always worked fine with various SIMs and varuious carriers - I travel a lot so unlocked was my chocie as I use SIMs in each country I visit. Recently in UK, I bought and installed a prepaid (pay as you go) SIM while I was there and now I find the phone is locked to that carrier. Well, at least it will not make calls - it'll recieve calls and it'll send and recieve SMS messages, but I can't make any calls - it just begins the calling process then gives call failed message. Now I find the problem, I've moved on to another country so getting the carrier to see to it is impossible for me. So now I have a locked phone because somehow a carrier has been able to disable the factory unlock by using their SIM I installed. This is a carrier I have not used before with this phone.
how can that happen? How can a carrier have that sort of power over the device? How can I get back to the original unlocked state? I've tried a total Restore, but no change - still locked.

Have been searching forums for a couple weeks now and cannot find an answer. I have an icon on my screen that only shows up when I lock my keys it is a blue and white square and thats about all I can tell about it, since I can only see it when the keys are locked and the screen goes black very quickly when locked I cannot examine the Icon very well Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have gone through all my messages and applications and cant seem to find anything. also when I first noticed the icon it had a 1 next to it and it is now up to 4 so I feel it is some kind of message, but i'm very confused as to why it will only show when the keys are locked.I look forward to see what everyone has to say about this as I have always been VERY pleased with the GREAT information I get from this site!

This leaves power users with no other option but to go for custom ROMs. Even there locked bootloader is always a very big problem! Moto promised long back to unlock bootloaders. Defy and Defy+ are now quite old phones and will receive no update either! So now is there any hope that the bootloaders will be unlocked? This deters most devs and power users from getting Moto phones inspite of an excellent build quality. Hope we get a reply and this thread don't die without any use!
