IPhone :: 4S Unlocked Isn't Activating With Another Carrier?
Apr 17, 2012
I just bought an iPhone 4S UNLOCKED on March 2012 in Austin, TX.
I bring it to Brazil, but when I try to use my carrier's SIM card the iPhone locks the system saying "Only compatible SIM cards from a supported carrier my be used to activate iPhone. insert the SIM card that came with your iPhone or visit a supported carrier". When I try to use AT&Ts SIM card (that came with the iPhone but doesnt work here in Brazil) the iPhone unlocks the system. I just want my unlocked iPhone....
I called AT&T about 15 days to request an unlock for my iPhone. Yesterday I got the confirmation email explainig that the IMEI number was unlocked and that I should follow this steps to unlock it:
To complete the unlock, simply:
1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have internet connectivity.
2. Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
3. Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes . [url]...
4. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.
Well I have done that. And the iPhone won't activate. I have inserted my sim card from Argentina (TELECOM PERSONAL is the company) but when I connect to iTunes it gives me this message:
Your request couldn't be processed. We are sorry, but there was an error processing your request. Please try again later. I have, too, tried to do it through the iPhone, in the activation screen (where it is stuck, by the way) but the same, error message.
I just moved to another country, and purchased a sim card for my unlocked iPhone 5s. After realising I purchased the wrong one, I cut down the micro sim to a nano. It seems like all services are working - I can make calls, receive texts, etc but the carrier name won't appear. Not sure if this is indicative of troubles to come. It appears blank next to the signal strength. Could this be because of the DIY sim card or was my phone not unlocked properly? I had it unlocked through my carrier back home.
I wanted to buy an iPhone 3GS from Apple unlocked for any carrier if I restore it for any reason is it unlocked automatically or do I have to take it to Apple to get it unlocked? Maybe jailbreak?
I purchased two unlocked iphone 4s phones a few months back. I put in the sim card for my new carrier and it says activation required. When I say use cellular carriers network its telling me the sim card is not recognized and to use it with another carrier. I called AppleCare to confirm that in fact both my wifes and my phone were unlocked and could be used with any carrier. They said yes its unlocked and can be used with any carrier around the world.
I am looking for a way to determine if a used Iphone came from the factory carrier unlocked. I want to be able to check before I buy it and before I get ripped off. There are too many charlotans out there passing off their jail broken phones as "factory unlocked". .Calls to apple are not helpful. Apple does not want to be helpful in this even though they have a distain for jailbroken phones.
Info: iPhone 4, iOS 5.0.1, Any phone any software.
I have an iPhone 4S that was recently unlocked by AT&T. Unfortunately, it's developed an issue where all the radios cut out if I talk on the phone for more than a few minutes. Assuming I can get this replaced by Apple, would my unlock carry over to the new phone? It was hard enough getting AT&T to unlock this phone, I'm not sure if theyd do it if they can't verify the IMEI was the same one that I purchased.
Bought iPhone 4 on eBay as unlocked, but it does not work in Russia. Apple says it is locked but cannot tell me the carrier. How can I know the carrier.
I want to buy a used iPhone from eBay Australia who was bought in some carrier (like Optues, Telstra etc...) and unlocked by the carrier for the buyer's request.
Carrier unlock is like factory unlock? I will be able to use this iPhone in any GSM network in the world?
I'm thinking of buying an 4s unlocked to use on Simple mobile carrier which they allow iPhones to be used on their not work but don't support it as stated on their website. Giving that it's an unlocked iPhone, all I would need is a Simple mobile sim card and I'm good to go but my question is.... will all features work? It would suck if I bought it at full price just to find out some features may not work on the unsupported network. It would defeat the purpose of having an unlocked iPhone if I can't use it on any GMS carrier.
I have an unlocked T-Mobile 9700 that I'm using on Cincinnati Bell Wireless. At certain points I still see T-Mobile screens or software displays - when I first open up the browser, when the phone first reboots, etc.It happens quickly and doesn't really bother me, I was just curious if certain software stuff like that was permanently set into the phone's OS even though it is unlocked and working well on another carrier..(I upgraded to .593 yesterday.)
I'm currently looking at trying out the Windows 10 Mobile preview, and much of what I've read says that system resets are needed to make it useable. If I perform one, does my phone remain carrier unlocked?
I have a Lumia 1020, currently unlocked, but it is an AT&T model. Just want to be safe before I do it.
I have contacted my service provider to unlock my new iPhone 4S, and they said "The iPhone has now been unlocked - Please replace the SIM (use a SIM which has never been used with this iPhone) and connect to iTunes or perform a software restore via iTunes."I then did this, connected my iPhone to Wi-Fi but this message came up: "Your iPhone could not be activated because the activation server is temporarily unavailable. Try connecting your iPhone to iTunes to activate it, or try again in a few minutes."When I connected it to iTunes, the message "We are unable to continue with your activation at this time." came up.I tried again many times, but this message still always comes up. What should I do?
when i bought my new iPhone 4S, i set it up, and got to the homescreen without any sim card at all, but i was playing around with it, and "erased all content" and now it wont let me activate without a SIM...i can't even do it through wifi like i thought...is there any way to do activate without getting an AT&T micro sim?
My iphone 4s is not activating with ios6 beta..I was trying to upgrade my ios5 to 6 However, it says We're unable to complete your activation This device is not registered as part of the iPhone Developer Program. If you are a member of the Program, please register your device in the iPhone Developer Program Portal at [URL] and now i just want to use the previous i dont want to upgrade my ios5 to 6?
I bought an iphone 4 on craigslist (dumb idea) and ive went everywhere to activate it and they're telling me its from a different country or something and has to be activated with the original sim.I dont want to go to AT&T because they will not help because im on T-Mobile(even though I used to be with them for a little while
I updated my iphone 4 from version 4 to version 5. Now I am not able to activate it. It says the sim card is not compatible. I would like to restore it to the pre-update status. How do I do that?
When i switch on the imessage it tells "you will be charged from the network provider",If i click on "ok" it start saying "waiting for activation" and after sometimes it says "sorry imessage unable to activate, try again" and if i click on "NO" for network provider question it gets activated. And also i cant find my "caller id colomn" at "recieve at"option.
I -tunes made me restore the phone, with out the option of back up. So i did because it went to recovery mode. Then it said your attempting to activate a phone that has no sim card. So i went to ATT and bought one. They couldn't get it to activate and said try from your pc in i-tunes or go see Apple. I-tunes is still telling me no sim even after reinstalling I-tunes and another restore and update to latest software. ?
i ordered a iphone 4 s 16 GB via apple store. recieved delivery today. the phone is not configuring and refuses to recognise the micro sim card. what can i do?
I'm having trouble activating my phone after updating & restoring it.
It was acidently updated to 5.1 and then I had no option but to restore it now its says 'could not activate'.
It was a phone from the UK which was unlocked and now i'm trying to use it on a zimbabwe network.
What do I do if i'm not able to find out the original carrier? And how can I just activate it in the first place (before considering getting it unlocked in any way)
I'm having problems with my iPhone 3Gs. I had it jailbreaked with Redsn0w, then I restored it to the most update iOS through the newest iTunes. I can't get past the activation menu at all. I tried restoring in DFU mode and still no luck, even with using other SIM cards. I tried downgrading to iOS 5.0 and I get "error 60000ms giving up" on the iPhone screen and I can't edit hosts files at all. I'm using Windows Vista too.
My phone was stolen and i recently got it back and took it to the at&t store and got the phone number and sim changed back over but it keeps saying that the iphone is disabled, and to connect to itunes. When I connect to itunes, it says type in the password. But on the phone, the only thing i can do is make emergency calls. How do i get the disabling off?
I received a 4S 16GB black as a gift from my cousin. He bought the Iphone from France with Bouygues operator. But I want to use it in Turkey.I dont know if it is simlocked or not. But when I try to activate it with Turkish GSM card, it is not accepted but signal bar and 3G is working. By the way, I could activate it by Boygues sim card then inserted the Turkish GSM oper. card (Turkcell ) , the name of Turkcell apprared in options >about > operator. Then it said it needs to be activated. but it couldnt. I also upgrade ios into 5.1.1 .
So, I just bought a JB'en iphone 3g tonight.Went ahead and unlocked it using ultrasn0w.Connected it to my mac/itunes, and it asks "an iphone has been previously synced with this computer. setup as a new iphone -or- restore the backup of ***"So, since I had purchased apps using my *** phone (actually was an ipod touch that i got rid of), I'm thinking that I should restore the backup so that I can get my paid apps back for free.
Questions: -will restoring this backup to the new unlocked phone restore it to its original locked state (i.e. will i have to re-jailbreak/unlock)? or will it simply restore preferences, etc...? -otherwise, if i call this phone a new name, is there a way to transfer my purchased apps to the new phone's account?
While I've sat out for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, and iPhone 3GS, I was unable to get my hands on a launch-day iPhone 4 this year due to work scheduling. I was able to sell my own iPhone 3GS and purchase an iPhone 4 on eBay (yeah yeah). Well, its coming tomorrow morning and it just hit me that I have a SIM card and it has a (blank, I know, I did some searching) Micro-SIM card.
Will I be able to just plug it into iTunes and activate on my account? Or will I have to actually call or go to AT&T to discuss this with them?I don't want to accidentally activate the eBay purchaser's account, since the box is still sealed.Sorry if this has been answered before. I've found questions regarding iPhone purchases based on other lines but not one like this.
