is there a broadband hack to use your clearwire internet for your cell phone like you would if you had cricket, if so how would i go about doing it? i want 4G speeds on my hero.
View 5 RepliesI have a HTC Hero on the regional carrier, Cellular South. For some time I've been using the WiFi, which comes in particularly handy in those places I visit where I can't get a cellular signal. Recently the WiFi just stopped working. It's turned on, it just does not work. I've uninstalled a number of applications, rebooted the phone and took it in to the Cellular South store, where the Hero expert looked at it. Their suggestion was a hard reset, which would wipe out everything on the phone. It would all have to be reloaded afterward. The suggestion came with no guarantee and they said that it might have to be replaced if the reset did not cure the problem. I've experienced other problems with the Hero falling back to "base Android" when the HTC Sense application got set to not autostart. This probably due to interaction with some downloaded application.
My question is if anyone else has experienced WiFi not working and knows of any non-destructive fixes for the problem? (e.g. look for a particular program that needs to be restarted)
I have a CDMA Hero with Cellular South (a regional carrier in MS, AL & FL). They have been generally pretty slow to provide updates and currently have only released Android 2.1 for this device. I was hoping that they would eventually provide a 2.2 update, as I understand that this would allow some applications to be moved to the flash card. Right now, the limitations of being able to store applications on only the phone memory is fairly constraining and makes the decision of whether to install or not install an app pretty tough.
I have been recently told that Cellular South does not intend to update this phone to 2.2, so it will be stuck forever on 2.1 (unless I install a 3rd party update). why this phone would not be updated to 2.2. Has HTC just decided to not support it any longer? If so, I've bought my last HTC phone.
I was told that I could voice dial with this phone, but I have not been able to find it in the user manual. Has anyone been able to to this?

I'm trying to decided betweent he hero and the samsung moment but I need support for a bluetooth keyboard (either HID or SPP). If they hero doesn't have SPP support does anyone know where I can find a profile for it? I see I can add HID support here (possibly).

First i compressed as .mp4 (H.264/AAC) which worked fine on iPhone, worked ok on a SE-X1 (needed to load whole movie before it could play), the Hero couldn't recognize the file at all.
The info page for Hero says it handles mpeg-4 (H.263 and H.264) and MP3/AAC.Is it just the .mp4 container that the Hero doesn't like?Does anyone know what format that would be best for video on the net to work on most phones?
I have a rooted HTC Hero and I've previously used my phone's internet sharing mode succesfully but now it won't work. I called Sprint and they said they no longer support phone as modem but I luckily spoke to a tech that told me it is possibly and told me to ask around about how to get it to work.

My Sprint/Metro PCS HTC Diamond's touch screen all of a sudden stopped responding.If it had a keyboard like the PRO would've been no problem but NO KEYBOARD.Even though I did a PIM backup and had my old PRO handy and now connected I really want to see if I can get it back to life!!I opened it yesterday (thinking maybe it got loose and I could "just" connect it right) and could not get all the way to the screen so I decided to leave it alone, for now..Googled and all I got was GMS videos and stuff so I was wondering that maybe someone here has done it and could help me get to the screen and replace it...

I just got a Hero, am trying to get my hotmail, but it will not download emails. I am getting a message "Sorry! The application mail (process com.htc.andriod.mail) has stopped unexpectedly. View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm thinking about upgrading from a Pearl to a Tour (both cdma) so that when I'm traveling in the U.S. I can unlock it and use a tmobile or at&t sim it, to cut down on roaming costs. I'm confused as to how it works though. If I put a sim card in there does it completely negate the cdma portion of the phone...using the sim card provider's data/text messages/voice plan or is there a way to access both the cdma and sim card at the same time?
For example I'd like to use my cdma text package and data while using the voice/talk time portion on the sim. Is this possible? Sorry for the noobie confufflement

View 1 Replies View RelatedI got Bitpim to recognize the serial and modem ports for Samsung as available but,when I try to goto file system with the serial port, it shows the folder icon as open but it doesn't do anything. I tried to use "Other CDMA Phone" for detection. If I try the Modem port, it says "Retrieving." like it's attempting to open it but, soon, it stops and is in the same spot as the serial port.

Ideally, I would like to know how to edit the "sms mo so" setting so I could change it to 13k instead of 8k, as has been mentioned in various material I have found. Of course, I'm not sure if this is possible, but if it is not, is there some alternative?
Secondly, tonight, I managed to breach this phone's 70 or 72ish inbox limit by having lots and lots of picture messages. I got it up to 117 when I decided to delete all the messages and see if the new limit had been set, as was suggested to work for certain Samsung models on another site. This does not seem to be the case, as I am back at 72.
