BlackBerry :: Upgrade 8800 To 4.5?
Sep 7, 2011I have an oldish 8800 unlocked, that was a used in Australia (Telstra). I have bought with me to Malawi, and put in an Airtel SIM and subscribed to BB here. Current device s/w is 4.2, and I am trying to upgrade to 4.5, however via the Web (BB site) I get "no updates available". Using a freshly downloaded BB Desktop Software, it tells me a 4.5 Bundle is available, but just after initiating, I get "There was an error updating your software. Please try again".

Jun 8, 2010I bought a real 8800 original a while back and decided to upgrade. I got online the 8800 carbon arte, but when I got it in I realized it is a fake (a nice fake, but a fake).Now I'm not sure if I should keep it and sell my old 8800, or send back the 8800 carbon fake? I cant afford a new carbon as they are well over 1grand.
features on the fake seem to be all except no pc suite option (USB gives me com port, mass storage, webcam) and no touch option. Im also assuming that the screen isnt durable.Other than that, the firmware seems to be the same (from what I gathered online)What would you do? Keep the original 8800, or use the newer 8800 carbon fake?

Aug 2, 2010I recently tried to upgrade my Blackberry 8800 4.2 to 4.5. The upgrade was completed but the phone went off as soon as I finished, and would not come on. I took it to a phone shop and they were able to put it back on. BUT, it just goes off, reboots and on by itself intermittently, and this has gone on for three days now. What do I do to make my phone function properly?

At the "email setup" in setup wizard there is only a email account with enterprise server and there is no settings to change. My operator doesn't support the mail configuration automatically, so I have to put them by myself (POP, SMTP, etc).

Mar 19, 2010I just got a used 8800 (Cingular) ver 4.5. The phone was wiped and I was able to set my own password. But I'd rather not have it lock at all.The help file indicated that PASSWORD could be disabled, but that does not work for me. I'm looking at Options > Security Options > General Setting.There's a password ENABLED field, but I can't change it, there is a little teeny tiny red lock icon next to the field.
I changed the security timeout to 30, and that helps.
Can anyone tell me how to disable the password lock?
BB Software :: Using Gmail With Old And Trusted 8800
Apr 1, 2010I have been using gmail for about 3 years, and I setup gmail to forward emails to my BB 8800, this has all been working fine for 2 years, in the last 3 or 4 weeks emails that I have been sending from my computer at home (using gmail ) have been sent to friends etc, and I also get a copy on my 8800
when somebody replies to my email, I see the message without any problems on my laptop when logged into my gmail account, but now when I look on my 8800, the message displays for 1 second and then disappears, if I press the BB button ( to the left of the trackball ) , and select from the menu "Get Plain Text" , BB displays the dialogue message "Receiving More" and the text comes back surely I should not have to do this when using a gmail account
only emails that I have kicked off using gmail are affected, all other emails that I receive from other people are fine ! NB I have plenty of "Free Space" 31559744 bytes
I have the latest software, I have security wiped the 8800 a number of times, I have removed the battery a number of times, all these things I have been told to do by my carrier "Orange UK" , all to no avail, so I have to resort to the internet, and boards like this

May 31, 2010Iīm using the newest PC Suite under Win 7 32 bit, and a Nokia 8800.Up to now the WIn 7 BT driver was installed and worked for month.Since a couple of weeks I donīt get an automated sync. Sync starts, and ends with the error "check if device is connected".
The device IS connected, I can see my messages and calendar in PC Suite, PC Suite and the round connection symbol are green.Now I tried to install the latest Belkin BT Broadcom Widcomm driver (I used an older widcom last year under XP!).this one does not show up in the connection manager. There I only find the Microsoft.

Feb 19, 2010I just bought a BB 8820 unlocked, it's made on Hungary and it shows on the screen a battery with a red line crossed, I know what the symbol means BUT the battery is OK, it's the right model C-X2 and I already tried it on a different phone and it's working fine. PLUS, the desktop manager cannot connect to the device,the application loader neater. I download the 4.2.2 device software and had the VENDOR file erased too, I start running the "loader" from C:Program FilesCommon FilesResearch In MotionAppLoader. and it loads the JVM and system software but when it is initializing the device I get the connection error and that's it. FROZEN AGAIN. The screen with the crossed battery is the only one I'm able to see.I try to replace the USB cable and the soft reset too with no results.What can I do, help me please!

I set up the mailbox and automatic retrieval but unfortunately the phone will not retrieve emails unless it is manually connected to mailbox and when it is it drops connection every 20-35 minutes. I have the mailbox update interval set to 6 hours but it won't retrieve them unless the connection to mailbox is active. Apr 3, 2010I have a 8820 which was my office BB but I got a new official bb so the company let me have the 8820 but will not provide any support for it. How do I remove the IT policy from my 8820 to be able to use it as my personal bb? I read in another forum that you need OS 4.3 or greater to remove the IT policy. The OS on my 8820 is v4.2.2169 (Platform 2.4.0.67). Also read that you need desktop manager and some other stuff to backup and perform some other tasks, then install OS 4.3 and then remove the policy. Since this is now my personal bb I don't have any software or CD for it except the instrument itself. I am guessing I need to install some software on my pc, backup to be able to remove IT policy.
Where can I get the software for what I have to install it on a PC. This might also be a dumb question but what is the connection with a pc and a blackberry to install/ backup etc?If there is some intro doc that explains this it would be great.

Jul 17, 2015A lot of the time when I'm texting the letters take quite a while to show up and most of the time will be incorrect from how I typed it out. I know I type pretty fast but that shouldn't have anything to do with it being this slow. It often has me going back to correct it because of this just making it take even more time to send a message. This has happened on my old phone before at times when I would be texting back in a relatively large thread but some of these on this phone don't even have that many messages so I don't believe that is the reason.

Apr 18, 2010I'm having an issue with the folders text messages are ending up in.
Its as if the BB9700 cant tell the difference between a BBM or and SMS text.
I had some messages not being sent so did a battery pull (possible cause of issue?)
Now when I get a text it shows up in the SMS And MMS folder but in the folder the icon is like a little bubble with lines in it whereas it used to be an envelope.
Also, when I get a SMS from a contact who is in my BBM, the SMS shows up in both the SMS And MMS folder and in BBMessenger. It never did this before. Th icon for the text message is a little black phone.
I have not done any OS changes or added any apps. This just started happening yesterday.
Any help to get it back like original would be appreciated.

Apr 14, 2012My wife has an iphone 4 and I just got the iphone 4s. I can text other people no problem but there are issues when I text my wife. If I create a text using Siri, she doesn't get it. When I type a text, she usually gets it, but not always. I have no problems sending/receiving texts with anyone else. And I've received every text she has sent. She has no problems sending/receiving texts from other people.

Aug 7, 2014I was texting and the phone just turned off, I tried to wake him up again but it didn't. I connected it to the charger to see what happened and a charging icon appeared while the led light was blinking in orange, but it was not the normal charging icon that appears when you're charging the phone it was just an empty battery with the lightning icon inside. I thought it had no battery left and I wasn't realizing it so I left it there to charge but nothing happened. I contacted support from HTC through their live chat feature and they told me to try a battery calibration but it didn't work (I think it was because i had the fast boot mode turned on).
