BB Tour 9630 :: Tour 5.0 Bluetooth Stack Fails With All Headsets?
Apr 20, 2010And apparently RIM is aware of this bad Bluetooth stack? This is what BlueAnt tech support is telling me and that it's BlackBerry's problem. I have a Tour running 5.0 and have never had an issue with any Bluetooth headset except the BlueAnt Z9i. My BlueAnt Z9i does seem to work fine on 4.7, but I'll chuck the Z9i in the can before I stick w/4.7 for any longer than testing purposes! BlueAnt said I should contact RIM for details on a solution; however, I see no reasonable means to directly contact RIM tech support?And since this is RIM's official support forums, unless I'm mistaken? Does anyone know anything about this faulty Bluetooth in 5.0 on the Tour and Storm 2 that causes random issues with Bluetooth headsets? Random issues are: Random beeps, buttons on headset being unresponsive, sound and mic not working, and hang-ups. These are all completely random issues the button unresponsiveness can be fixed by disconnecting the Bluetooth headset from the BlackBerry device via the BlackBerry device. And then the headset buttons will work again, enabling the headset to be powered down, etc This is of course a fix until it randomly happens again the next time it's paired to the Tour running 5.0!"As you know this is a specific issue with Blackberry tour (9630) and storm 2 phones using 5.0 OS, no updating of BlueAnt products will help as it's a fault with the phone." BlueAnt said "I believe It occurs on almost all Bluetooth devices within anything from one weeks to two months of pairing with a Blackberry tour using 5.0." BlueAnt said "Just to re-cap: the issues with the tour happen with all BlueAnt products: Q1, V1, Z9i etc And I've heard from consumers that called in it also occurs on Jabra's and Jawbones etc.We know that Blackberry know about the issue so if you contact them they should shed some light on it." Mar 5, 2011I use auto power on/off on my BB Tour 9630. When it powers on it does not enable bluetooth automatically. I then have to manually enable bluetooth with Manage Connections. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Then I launch options scroll to Bluetooth and then enable Bluetooth there. Again sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes I have to repeat, repeat this step or power off manually then power on. Thinking I should leave it powered on 24/7 and just leave bluetooth on 24/7.

Feb 18, 2010I have a tour running OS 5.0.484. I can get my Plantronics 520 headset to pair Fine with the Blackberry but when I try to make a call or get any sound to or from the headset it doesn't work. I've tried the headset on other phones and it works fine. I tried repairing, Pulling the battery, removing all the other profiles and then repairing the device. I've even tried upgrading the OS to .484 from .419 and nothing seems to work. I know the bluetooth has worked in the past just not sure how long it's been since it has stopped working.

Jul 11, 2010Bluetooth radio is turned on. I've discovered my device but the Desktop software only has the option to connect by USB. Ver 5.0. During installation there is no option to choose what type of connection you want. I see there are options to choose between USB and Bluetooth or both, however they are grayed out. I have a successful USB connection. Everything works fine but I want to go wireless.
Running on Toshiba Sattelite laptop with Vista 32bit ultimate OS
Toshiba Bluetooth stack is turned on but it's Toshiba's - not microsoft (don't know if that matters)
Device is found and paired. I have this same problem on 2 computers running different OS, my laptop has Vista ( a Toshiba) & my desktop has XP (HP). I don't get it as I have tried every configuration I can think of. It can SEE the BB but no option to enable bluetooth, only none or USB. I'm assuming it may be the BB os 5.0?

Jan 30, 2010Okay, so it is a bit ironic that I am posting this question, as I have been helping others here on CB with BT/USB tethering for quite some time now. However, it looks as if the tables have turned!
Like many have reported over the past few months, Sprint has finally turned off the "back-door" free tethering connection that has been working for many years via BT and USB for many, many people. Over the years, I have activated and deactivated the "phone as modem" add-on several times, usually only when needed. Just last week, I called into CS and had them flip the switch ON.
My Tour was already setup for BT modem, and connected just fine, and since I turned it on, I have used the service many times. HOWEVER - just the other day, I tried to connect and my Tour's screen flashed white, and said "Connecting to desktop". I could not exit out of this screen, and also could not connect to the phone via BT to use as a modem. The blue BT light was flickering, and the computer was trying to connect for about 30 seconds, before failing - and once failed, the white screen went away, and the home screen reappeared.
I have NEVER seen this screen before - not even when connecting the phone via USB to the DM in either Windows or Mac. I am not sure what has happened since last week. I have not installed a new OS, nor have I changed any settings on the phone or in DM. Very odd!
I would appreciate any help or insight into this matter. I have already tried pairing the phone with the computer again - but still every time I go to connect via BT, the phone is now displaying the "Connecting to desktop" message with a white background. So weird! I am using Snow Leopard with a hybrid OS. Neither one of these factors should be the root of any issue - as I said earlier, just last week things were working fine - and I have made NO changes whatsoever since.
Only new apps downloaded since have been Bold, Opera, and QuickPull - however, I cannot imagine any of these apps to be interfering with tethering. I have tried battery pulls, and reconfiguring bluetooth settings - all to no avail.

I changed the housing in my Tour to make it white but the trackball doesn't sit right and i have a problem scrolling down. Feb 12, 2010I've developed a problem with my 9630 (carrier: Sprint) recently. I won't receive emails on it for quite a while, but once I open my Internet browser, all of the emails I received since the last time I opened it will come through at once. If I check my messages, they're all listed as coming through at the same time, but inside the email, they're datestamped at the actual time they were sent.
Any ideas as to what it could be? I haven't changed any settings recently, the problem started independent of anything else, from what I can tell. It seems like a problem with my phone not checking for new emails until it uses data services (internet browser).

May 30, 2010I've researched my problem on other posts, and still not completely sure if my problem is unique or not.I have an unlocked Sprint 9630 I grabbed from our IT department before a trip to Turkey. It was supposedly deactivated - turns out it is still active on a Sprint number.
I've replaced the Sprint SIM with an Avea Turkish prepaid SIM that has data and Blackberry capability. It works fine for phone and text, but no ability to register the email with Avea Blackberry. Tech support there unable to determine the problem (unable to connect to server is the error message, both with phone and online).If I can deactive the Sprint number will that help? Or am I just out of luck.

Jan 25, 2010I have an issue with my BB Tour.When I woke up this mourning and took my bb off the charger.I notice there were HLhlhlhlhlhlhlhlhhlhl type on my bb so I tried to press the esc button and the end button and it didn't work. So I did a Battery pull and let it load up...and that when i found out that my trackball wasn't working.then all a sudden it started to type the HLlhlhlhlhlhlhhlhlh again.So I did a another battery pull and it did it again.So I wiped the phone decided to install 5.0 on my phone and I get the same thing.The only thing I did before my phone went hay wire was a couple days prior.I downloaded a couple free themes and screen saver from BB App World.I thought by doing the battery pull and wipe I would fix it but didn't. I know I didn't get my phone wet or anything can anybody explain this?

Jul 14, 2010I just updated the software on my Blackberry Tour and now my calendar is behaving as it did two software generics ago! Specifically, when I change and appointment to a future date and then save that appointment, the calendar moves to that future date! This is terrible if you are moving several items out to future dates! Previously, the changed entry would just disappear from the screen (moved to the new, future date) and I would remain on the day I was working on.Secondly, when I open a future day in calendar, the “All Day Events” do not show first (as they used to). Instead you have to scroll up to see if there are any of these type events.Does anyone know of a way to change these settings/defaults.

Mar 12, 2010Just went from a storm 1 to a tour and I am loving it. I can't believe how much more app. memory I have!
However, I cannot get my tour device to show up in windows explorer. It connects and I can browse my media card. There is no drive in windows explorer for the device itself. I can connect to desktop manager and back-up my device memory so I know the computer can read my blackberry device. I upgraded the os with no problems.
I am running vista home premium with blackberry os 5.0 from sprint. I am on verizon. I do have mass storage mode enabled and all of those memory settings set to yes (auto connect, etc.). BBSAK and Blackberry Master Control Program see the device as well. I do not use roxio media manager and it is not installed with my desktop manager. It was too slow and clunky when I had my storm so I never bothered with it.

Feb 10, 2010After I installed the new operating system I lost a feature. Both my husband and I have the Tour. For example, if you highlight the Games folder and press the Blackberry options, one Tour can choose "edit folder" and pick a new Icon. The other Tour mine is missing that choice. Any fix? If I create my own folder, I have the feature, but not for my Games, Applications and other folder that were there in the old OS.

Jun 9, 2010I dropped my Tour and scratched up the bezel, and made the dumb decision to replace it. Long story short, I messed up switching over the buttons, and I stripped the screw putting it back in, so there's no going back to fix it. Now, when I press the keyboard lock button, it doesn't work. I figured out that I can hold down "A" on the homescreen to lock it, but now how do I unlock it?!
And PS: DON'T CHANGE YOUR HOUSING/BEZEL! I would much rather have a dinged up bezel than the situation I'm in now. Looks like I'm stuck with this Tour 'till December. I hope that people listen to my housing advice, and not be naive and ignore others like I did!

Apr 26, 2010My Tour is 3 months old. Suddenly calls are dropping in the house and the battery charger is taking 10 hours to charge the spare OEM battery. Running the 5.0.419 and it's been fine. Verizon came out with theirs and it's so bad I went back to 419. Now I have an email from RIM saying new software for the phone is available but it doesn't say what version it is so I'm afraid to load it. Any one else have same issue? Phone was fine after going to the first 5.0 for 2 months but now after having changed from Verizon's 5.0. (been a month or so) the issues started about a week ago.

We use MS Outlook as our mail program.I was just playing around in Outlook trying to figure out how to attach my business card to the end of e-mails I send and soon realized I was looking at all of my personal cell numbers of friends, family etc. in Outlook on my corporate lap top ! May 19, 2010I just upgraded from my old Curve 8330 to the Tour 9630, both on Verizon, and I couldn't be happier with my new device -- except for one thing. The Curve had a great "standby" function I could use at night, in which the phone would lock its keyboard and effectively shut down, but still be able to receive calls if one came in. This also saved lots of battery power. After hours' worth of mashing the top "lock" and "mute" buttons on the Tour, and searching through the internal menus, I can't seem to find a similar mode on my new phone.
First: If there's a thread about this already somewhere else, I beg your pardon; I'd be grateful for a link and I'll be on my way there. But if not, does anybody know whether some devices just do not have a standby mode anymore as part of OS 5, or whether there might be something wrong with my phone because its mute key won't activate standby mode?
The key lock button the top left works, but, at least on my Curve, the key lock and standby were two very different things -- I'd lock the keyboard when I put the phone in my pocket, but I'd put it on standby before bed every night. Does key-lock mode on the Tour replace standby?
