BB Tour :: Unable To Lock Keyboard
Dec 4, 2011The button on the top of my phone is broken, so I cannot lock the keyboard. I also cant seem to make the side keys lock the keyboard either. Any other options besides setting a password?

BB Tour 9630 :: Alternative To Keyboard Lock Button On Tour?
Jun 9, 2010I dropped my Tour and scratched up the bezel, and made the dumb decision to replace it. Long story short, I messed up switching over the buttons, and I stripped the screw putting it back in, so there's no going back to fix it. Now, when I press the keyboard lock button, it doesn't work. I figured out that I can hold down "A" on the homescreen to lock it, but now how do I unlock it?!
And PS: DON'T CHANGE YOUR HOUSING/BEZEL! I would much rather have a dinged up bezel than the situation I'm in now. Looks like I'm stuck with this Tour 'till December. I hope that people listen to my housing advice, and not be naive and ignore others like I did!
BB Tour 9630 :: Can Lock Keyboard But Not Unlock
Apr 7, 2010I lost my lock icon when I upgraded to 5.0. I've lost a lot more than that over the years. I'm over it. I can lock it with the "A" key, but I can't unlock the phone no matter what key(s) I press. The only way to unlock is to turn it off and then back on. I'm open for suggestions.

Feb 15, 2010I just recently upgraded my Tour to OS 5.0 and the first thing I noticed was that the keyboard lock feature wasn't working the way it's supposed to. As a matter of fact, it's working in quite the opposite way. There used to be a setting that allowed the keyboard to be automatically locked upon holstering. I don't see that option anymore because now when I holster it, it doesn't lock. If I manually lock it and then holster it, it becomes unlocked.

From my previous software, it was named Keyboard Lock and I set it as one of my convenience keys. After the update, I noticed that it no longer existed. A friend of mine purchased a brand new Curve 8520 with the update already installed of course. She had the Keyboard Lock but it was named Password Lock instead. I have been searching for ways to get this feature back to my Blackberry because I feel it is more convenient rather than the "silent/mute mode" button located on the top of my device. May 19, 2010I just upgraded from my old Curve 8330 to the Tour 9630, both on Verizon, and I couldn't be happier with my new device -- except for one thing. The Curve had a great "standby" function I could use at night, in which the phone would lock its keyboard and effectively shut down, but still be able to receive calls if one came in. This also saved lots of battery power. After hours' worth of mashing the top "lock" and "mute" buttons on the Tour, and searching through the internal menus, I can't seem to find a similar mode on my new phone.
First: If there's a thread about this already somewhere else, I beg your pardon; I'd be grateful for a link and I'll be on my way there. But if not, does anybody know whether some devices just do not have a standby mode anymore as part of OS 5, or whether there might be something wrong with my phone because its mute key won't activate standby mode?
The key lock button the top left works, but, at least on my Curve, the key lock and standby were two very different things -- I'd lock the keyboard when I put the phone in my pocket, but I'd put it on standby before bed every night. Does key-lock mode on the Tour replace standby?

Mar 30, 2010I feel lame starting yet another specific 5.0 thread but I have been on here since early this morning and a little last night and didnt see this.
There's a few threads talking about the lock screen being different or non-existent on 5.0
I have Keyboard Locker installed and set to lock after 30 secs.. I waited over a minute and it didnt lock. the screen black but it's not locked.
Keyboard locker is a huge app for me to prevent pocket dialing since I dont use a holster and keep it in my pocket.

Mar 14, 2011I may have hit a wrong button or series of buttons. Now I can't enter my password to unlock my Tour phone. Some of the keys such as the "S" and "H" keys, including the "del" key are not working. My numlock is not on and this is my only phone. Is it possible I accidentally changed a setting? I only have 5 password attempts left.

May 4, 2010I've had my phone for a couple of months now and it's been fine. The last software update caused the phone screen to go dark every time I turned on the keyboard lock, which is ok. But now - often, but not always - I can't get the phone to unlock again. I can activate the screen by pressing the Blackberry menu button but it just tells me the phone is locked. Pressing the keyboard lock/unlock button does nothing. I have to either disconnect the battery or connect the phone to a power supply to unlock it. Seems a bit strange to me!

Jan 10, 2010My keyboard backlight has a mind of its own. This is not a short, or electrical problem. It just works when it wants to. Sometimes it won't come on. Sometimes it lights up and works fine. Sometimes it fades off while I am typing. Sometimes it just illuminates while sitting on the table. I use my Tour in lowlight conditions all the time. I simply want it to come on when I touch a key and go off a bit after I am done handling it. Of course I navigated all the settings and stuff. I know all that. I have all the setting and options for the keyboard backlight set the way I want. This feels like a software or programming glitch. It never flickers or acts like a short. It slowly fades in and out as it would if I touched a key, or left it sit alone. Everything else works perfectly. I just want the keyboard backlight to come on when touched. And go off after several seconds of inactivity.

May 31, 2010So my wife and I just picked up two new 9700s in white and black from T-Mobile with their buy-1-get-1 offer We're both already blackberry users. I was upgrading from a Pearl 8120, and she had a Curve 8320.After letting them charge for a while I finally fired them up to start playing with them.My first goal is to set them up as similar to our old phones as possible.
I checked the OS'es that shipped with each one and my black 9700 had 5.0.0.330 and hers had 5.0.0.586. So, I went to upgrade mine.But, while playing with some of the settings before upgrading I noticed that I was able to set my left convenience key to lock the keyboard on my 9700 but not on hers.In fact, the white 9700 that shipped with 5.0.0.586 didn't even have the lock keyboard icon in any of the menu screens at all.
I upgraded my OS to 5.0.0.586 and then went to check the left convenience key nothing.Went into settings and where it was previously set to Lock Keyboard, was now set to "Nothing".Is there no Lock Keyboard feature in OS 5.0.0.586? or am I seriously missing something?

Jun 4, 2010Anyone having a problem with the phone locking when in holster? I have the setting right but it doesnt lock when I put it in the OEM holster. Even when I pass the flap magnet all over the phone nothing locks. Any ideas?

May 30, 2010Is there anyway to revert back to the old way of unlocking the bold, like from early 5.0 OS? like when you were supposed to hold * and the call button, because I absolutely despise this new mute button procedure and my mute button on my bold is already becoming unresponsive.Basically I'm wondering if perhaps there's a application that can switch them or maybe even a way to configure a different button on my bold to mute because as it is the default button (top left of the bold) is pretty much becoming unresponsive on my phone and I don't really want to get locked out.

I usually keep the right side convenience key programmed to lock it. But that is not even an option anymore when you go to set the action for the convenience keys.
