BB Tour 9630 :: Alternative To Keyboard Lock Button On Tour?
Jun 9, 2010I dropped my Tour and scratched up the bezel, and made the dumb decision to replace it. Long story short, I messed up switching over the buttons, and I stripped the screw putting it back in, so there's no going back to fix it. Now, when I press the keyboard lock button, it doesn't work. I figured out that I can hold down "A" on the homescreen to lock it, but now how do I unlock it?!
And PS: DON'T CHANGE YOUR HOUSING/BEZEL! I would much rather have a dinged up bezel than the situation I'm in now. Looks like I'm stuck with this Tour 'till December. I hope that people listen to my housing advice, and not be naive and ignore others like I did!
BB Tour 9630 :: Can Lock Keyboard But Not Unlock
Apr 7, 2010I lost my lock icon when I upgraded to 5.0. I've lost a lot more than that over the years. I'm over it. I can lock it with the "A" key, but I can't unlock the phone no matter what key(s) I press. The only way to unlock is to turn it off and then back on. I'm open for suggestions.

Feb 15, 2010I just recently upgraded my Tour to OS 5.0 and the first thing I noticed was that the keyboard lock feature wasn't working the way it's supposed to. As a matter of fact, it's working in quite the opposite way. There used to be a setting that allowed the keyboard to be automatically locked upon holstering. I don't see that option anymore because now when I holster it, it doesn't lock. If I manually lock it and then holster it, it becomes unlocked.

May 19, 2010I just upgraded from my old Curve 8330 to the Tour 9630, both on Verizon, and I couldn't be happier with my new device -- except for one thing. The Curve had a great "standby" function I could use at night, in which the phone would lock its keyboard and effectively shut down, but still be able to receive calls if one came in. This also saved lots of battery power. After hours' worth of mashing the top "lock" and "mute" buttons on the Tour, and searching through the internal menus, I can't seem to find a similar mode on my new phone.
First: If there's a thread about this already somewhere else, I beg your pardon; I'd be grateful for a link and I'll be on my way there. But if not, does anybody know whether some devices just do not have a standby mode anymore as part of OS 5, or whether there might be something wrong with my phone because its mute key won't activate standby mode?
The key lock button the top left works, but, at least on my Curve, the key lock and standby were two very different things -- I'd lock the keyboard when I put the phone in my pocket, but I'd put it on standby before bed every night. Does key-lock mode on the Tour replace standby?

Mar 30, 2010I feel lame starting yet another specific 5.0 thread but I have been on here since early this morning and a little last night and didnt see this.
There's a few threads talking about the lock screen being different or non-existent on 5.0
I have Keyboard Locker installed and set to lock after 30 secs.. I waited over a minute and it didnt lock. the screen black but it's not locked.
Keyboard locker is a huge app for me to prevent pocket dialing since I dont use a holster and keep it in my pocket.

Apr 23, 2010As the title states, my keyboard won't work at all and my trackball won't click in. I think it's because I touched my trackball when my finger was slightly wet. After that, I tried texting and the characters on the screen didn't correspond with what was being typed. Now it won't work at all. What can I do?

Jan 10, 2010My keyboard backlight has a mind of its own. This is not a short, or electrical problem. It just works when it wants to. Sometimes it won't come on. Sometimes it lights up and works fine. Sometimes it fades off while I am typing. Sometimes it just illuminates while sitting on the table. I use my Tour in lowlight conditions all the time. I simply want it to come on when I touch a key and go off a bit after I am done handling it. Of course I navigated all the settings and stuff. I know all that. I have all the setting and options for the keyboard backlight set the way I want. This feels like a software or programming glitch. It never flickers or acts like a short. It slowly fades in and out as it would if I touched a key, or left it sit alone. Everything else works perfectly. I just want the keyboard backlight to come on when touched. And go off after several seconds of inactivity.

Apr 9, 2010One of the best features with my BB is the auto lock (an app I downloaded). It would basically put it in standby mode after a few seconds of inactivity. This was key because it prevented it from going off in my pocket.
With the new OS, the app doesn't work. I know there is a similar function with the new OS, but it requires a 4-digit (?) password as opposed to a quick 2-button key press to unlock.
Any ideas on how to get this back?

Feb 16, 2012Blackberry tour 9630 working fine all of a sudden couldn't get any key on the keyboard to work. The "lock" keyboard button isn't locked and physically can't use phone keys or trackball to "engage" the device. When I receive a call, the screen displays (comes out of sleep) but I can't answer the phone, ignore the phone, etc. It's like the keyboard lock button all of a sudden locked and now won't unlock?

Apr 26, 2010My Tour is 3 months old. Suddenly calls are dropping in the house and the battery charger is taking 10 hours to charge the spare OEM battery. Running the 5.0.419 and it's been fine. Verizon came out with theirs and it's so bad I went back to 419. Now I have an email from RIM saying new software for the phone is available but it doesn't say what version it is so I'm afraid to load it. Any one else have same issue? Phone was fine after going to the first 5.0 for 2 months but now after having changed from Verizon's 5.0. (been a month or so) the issues started about a week ago.

Is that a "new feature"? It'd be nice to display the owner info if I accidentally leave my berry somewhere and all the person has to do is touch a button to display the info.

Jun 5, 2010I'm so ready to TRASH this blackberry, Ok so now I noticed that password protect is now enabled and now I can't disable it cause it has a little pic of a lock and now no choice to disable.

Mar 31, 2010I updated to 5.0, it's ok, not great. One problem i have is my lock icon is now gone, i preferred to lock my phone this way and not use the lock button on the top left. To get it back, i enabled a password. Then it came back. So i figured i would just disable it and the icon would still be there and functional like it was with 4.7, it's not, it dissapears again.Is there anyway to get the icon back where i can just hit * and the phone icon to unlock, I know this is minor, but it is what I like.Also, with 5.0 my standby mode is not working anymore, any thoughts?*on a side note, I'm not a fan of my BBM and SMS looking a like and co-mingling when I have someone as a contact and BBM contact, just a preference.can someone get my lock icon back working without a password?

Feb 11, 2010I just recently updated my BB Tour to 5.0.After doing the install i plugged in my BB to my USB.BBSAK recognizes it and so does DM But when i click on Start and My Computer the BB isn't recognized in the J drive (Running Windows XP)I installed my mp3 to make sure that the USB port was good.The PC recognized my mp3 Player (so no issues there)I then moved the BB to another USB and i'm still getting the same results Also before i did the update my PC was recognizing My BB in the J Drive.It's only after the update to 5.0 am i having these problems .I was wondering if anyone else is having this problem?

Feb 13, 2010Does anyone know a way to undo it? It's really irritating to me and I think it looks tacky. I liked the look of my Tour when I got it. I absolutely hate how it looks with the blue as the highlight. It was way better before.

BB Tour :: 9630 Got Nuked During OS Update?
Sep 22, 2011The day before yesterday, while making an update of my Tour 9630 OS, suddenly, in the half of updating process, occurred an electrical shut down in my house, and my pc turned "off" without , leaving my BB device totally nuked.Now my 9630 is ded, after put the battery on, just blinks the red LED (on right top of phone) twice, and after 2 seconds repeats the blinking. It continues on that way cyclically. Whe trying to use the loader.exe, my PC does not recognize it. I tried in another PC, laptop, and nothing. The operating system I use is Windows 7.I could not even try to make wipe with JL_cmder, because the problem is that my BB device cannot be recognized by any PC or laptop.

Jan 14, 2010I am having problems with my messenger freezing up on my Tour. It started with the most recent update. It will work fine but then randomly it will not allow me to open current chats. (I can still scroll through names on my list, so the whole screen isn't frozed, I just can't click on anything.) The only thing I can do to "fix" it is a hard reset of my phone, but then its just a matter of time before it freezes again. Happens daily at least.

Jan 21, 2010I've lost my 3rd party themes!I updated my OS to 4.7.1.61 OTA with no problems. I did have to reload a few applications (facebook, myspace, etc) but everything seemed to be working fine. After the update, my screen defaulted back to the original VZW Precision Zen theme. When I accessed the theme list to change it back to the downloaded theme I was previously using, it was gone!! The original BB Precision & VZW were listed, but the theme I downloaded from bplay was not. I checked by application list and sure enough, it was there.I redownloaded the theme from bplay, installed it, pulled the battery and rebooted... nothing, still not listed. I downloaded a theme from App World and did the same nothing, not listed. (I'm somewhat experienced in downloading themes due to multiple device replacements) I contacted bplay who sent me another theme free of charge for my inconvenience. Downloaded, installed, rebooted you guessed it, nothing. Yet all 3 themes showed in my applications list. I contacted the vendor for the App World theme, who told me it worked fine in the simulator with the new OS version, try a device wipe and/or contact my carrier. Onto VZW after 36 hours or so I got a reply telling me to indeed backup, wipe the device, reload, re-register, redownload the theme and retry. I have now done this (which is a real PITA having to reload ALL apps/customizations) and still neither theme works let alone even show up in my themes list. I've only seen one or two other posts for this problem between VZW, BB, & CB Forums, all void of any replies or suggestions. Anyone have a clue out there because the "professionals" seem to have no idea. - Themeless

Jan 19, 2010I am going to change from the Storm 2 to the Tour. The Tour 2 sounds nice but I really don't care for the trackpad after using it on the 9700. When you drive a lot the trackpad leans to more mistakes in navigation to me. Wifi is also something I never use. The Storm 2 is a great device but again it is hard for me to use while driving (one hand navigation). Once the 5.0 update is released I believe it will be near perfect for my uses.
