BB Torch :: Not Using WiFi At All?
Oct 25, 2011I'm connected to hotspots at school and my apartment but my internet and internet using applications only work when data from at&t is enabled. This leads me to believe that my phone is not using Wi-Fi at all. I have the smallest data plan, is there a way to make sure I'm only using the Wi-Fi?

I removed the sim card of my phone to check another sim card and, when I put it back, the BBM didnt connect anymore. I restarted the phone and the wifi connection however still I cant get it connected to BBM

Apr 27, 2011I just arrived in Germany for a vacation. When I arrived in my room, I connected my Torch to the wifi and was able to use all my data functions. At this time, I had turned off the mobile network, and was strictly using wifi.
This afternoon I picked up a German SIM card and activated it on my phone.Now I cannot use my bbm or facebook, even if I turn mobile network on, or my original SIM card.

I have the BIS plan from my carrier, and connecting via 3G is OK. The problem is, it seems like it's not connecting via wifi. The setting tells me that I am connecting to my home WIFI router.
The router is in my living room, and I am using my computer to stream video from internet at this moment, so the WIFI, internet should be ok, in an adequate speed to download hi-res video. I have very low 3G signal in my living room, and I am expecting my 9800 to use the high speed internet, but it seems it's not doing it... It could not even connect to [URL].The phone acts like this since I bought it, brand new. But it always acts like this.

May 23, 2011My bbm on my torch will not work over wifi, I tried it on 3G and it does work so I know the bbm is set up properly. I checked with my carrier and bbm does work over wifi so dont tell me it won't and I do have a data plan. I know other people with the torch as well and their bbm does work over just wifi. I was on the phone with bell and blackberry for 3 hours, and they cant get it to work either, I tried deleting and re-adding the app and just about everything else i could find. Apr 14, 2011I recently picked up a 9800 Torch for next to no money and I thought I'd be able to get to grips with it pretty quickly. I've come from a Samsung i900 Omnia, so I'm not new to smartphones! However, this BlackBerry has me stumped.I've read through a lot of threads both here and all over the Internet trying to work out how to connect my Torch to my home network via Wi-Fi, but I'm at a loss as to how to get it to work.A little background: I'm on Orange with a PAYG SIM, which I've been using with my Omnia for the past two years with no problem. When I top up my account I get free mobile internet for the rest of that month so I don't relly feel I need a specific BlackBerry add-on. I doubt I'll be using any of the features that require a specific data plan as I'll just be using the Torch for picking up webmail by using my free Orange internet access.So, I've tried tweeking the TCP settings and I can connect to the internet via Orange Mobile Internet with no problems using Opera Mini. If I try and connect using the built-in browser I seem to get get "Cannot connect to server" error more often than not. (On a side note, I prefer Opera Mini anyway as it seem to be much faster.)However, no matter what I do I simply cannot get the Torch to connect to my home network via Wi-Fi. Do I have to buy a data plan for this function to work? If so that does seem somewhat counter productive.In over two years of use I never had a single problem getting my Omnia to connect to my home network.

May 7, 2011I work at a remote mine site for 2 weeks at a time and when i come here i don't have any cell service BUT i do keep in contact with family and friends through BBM (connecting through wifi.) NOW last time i was on my two weeks off my phone was acting slow, so i looked up how to speed it up and read that if i download some version of whatever ".246" from what i was running at the time ".144" it would speed up my phone.. I didnt install it just downloaded it on my two weeks off while i was in cell phone coverage area but when i got to camp i decided to install this upgraded program overnight while i was sleeping. When i woke up it shows i am connected to a wifi signal and i can access the internet browser and that all works fine like normally BUT it wont let me connect through bbm. it says that BBM is not connected to a network.. It says BBM Enterprise Service is "not connected" and Blackberry Internet Service is "Not connected" and mobile network is "not connected" What happened and how do i fix this so i can bbm again while i am here?? or do i have to wait two weeks till i leave camp and go back to home where i have cellphone signal?

Sep 14, 2011I purchased BB Torch 9860 before two days and I already have plan for the data package (200 mb). I connected it to my WiFi at home and it shows that it's connected. Now when I'm at home and I want to surf the internet, it's using the carrier data package, but I want it to use the WiFi. I searched all over and I can't find any solution. any help? Aug 22, 2011my bb torch 9800 is not connecting to wifi settings in my home. i've spoken to tech people both at bell and rim with no solutions. i have three other bb in this house and all connect to wifi. when we change the protocol from wep to wpa my phone works but the others do not. the other phones are brand new. when we switch back to wep setting my phone "fails to associate with network".

Jun 5, 2012My BB Torch 9800 has stopped being able to use BBM, emails and a couple more apps through my wifi conection. I am in an area where ther is no network signal, so this service is very essential for me. The internet browser on the phone works ok, and some apps work ok (whats app,facebook). I have been onto O2 and they say evertyhing looks fine at their end, and nothing has accidentally been switched off. My wifes phone (BB Storm with T-Mobile) is still working with BBM ok.

Jun 8, 2011I have had a blackberry torch for a while now which i had bought in the uk, i have been living in spain since september and have been using the wifi in my house here to bbm and use all the apps etc. I recently went back to the uk to visit and came back to spain yesterday and connected to my wifi... however my bbm, email, fb, and all other apps are not working, however i can connect to the browser! I have tried various things to make it work again, for eg, pulling the battery out, taking sim in and out, making sure the data service is on! The wi fi is definitely connected as the signal bar in the right hand corner is white! Does anybody know how to make it work again, it has always worked completely fine!

Don't know what have caused it, I don't have any 3rd party applications other than Cupture It, I feel this problem started yesterday after downloading Facebook 2.0.0.23 Beta which overwritted my Facebook 2.0.0.19 Beta.Tried to call Vodafone Qatar for support, but they couldn't do anything up till now and they don't allow transfers to RIM Technical Support. and Yes I did a hard reset, even tried leaving batter out for a couple of minutes with no luck. BB Torch :: Browser Over WiFi Not Working?
Aug 28, 2010I was running a few tests to see check speed of my browser on my home network over ATT. When I disable the Mobile Network and enable wifi to my home network, I get an error in my browser "You are not currently in an area that can handle data communication".
I connected successfully to my home network as shown by status on top of home screen. Is there another setting I need to select to 'force" use of my home network? I used to have this in my BOLD settings under browser options, but from what I read the connection switch is supposed to happen automatically on the Torch browser.

Feb 9, 2011just noticed something. Whenever i'm on wifi and i go into app world, it says "there is an issue with app world. app world will now close."
But when i off the wifi and back on data, its running ok. I then pause my download, head back to home screen, on the wifi and continue download.
