BB Torch 9800 :: How To Turn Off Tilt (Accelerometer)
Aug 28, 2010
I'm really surprised to not see more posts with questions or information about turning off the tilt function of the 9800. The most annoying thing is that I like showing 3 rows of icons on the home screen, but if you tilt it, it changes to 2 rows, tilt it back to portrait and it stays at 2. This happens every time. Not to mention, on a reboot, it reverts back to 1 row! Unlike the Storm, you cannot set a default number of rows. Regardless, I would ONLY use the landscape option while watching videos....so the tilt is very annoying. Anybody know of any way to turn off the tilt function? Maybe in the programming?
When I had my Storm, there were plenty of applications out there to stop the tilt, but ALL BUT ONE did not retain the settings after a reboot. This was very annoying. Even the one that did retain after a reboot, sometimes failed to work properly.
I know this may sound like a VERY very naive/dumb question but how does one turn off the phone (other than pulling the battery out!)?? Obviously I've pressed the power button but that does nothing. Is there some type of trick to this?? Also, how do you wake up/unlock it other than having to flip open the keyboard?? Sorry but this is my first non S60 phone.
I was using Facebook app on my phone when I noticed it froze on the screen which I assumed was the phone lagging since I had a couple other apps open but then I also noticed my LED light come on in a still abnormal red, a dark red and then immediately my phone shut off completely. I did a battery pull thinking I just needed to reboot it but that didn't even work since even after multiple battery pulls the reboot screen won't even show up, no loading bar, no LED either. Just nothing at all. Tried leaving it alone for a few hours, put the battery back in and still nothing. Left the battery in while charging in and still nothing.
Last friday I went to sleep with my bb torch 9800 dieing. I woke up to charge it and there was no response besides a red light when plugged in then it went out and then no light eventually. I ordered a new battery and got it today. It charged for 10 seconds then tried turning itself on and died and kept repeating this process and now im back to the red light when I plug it in and thats all..The light keeps going out then no response.
I recently acquired a torch 9800. I started enjoying the ph. when I registered it with my internet provider for some reason the ph. went crazy. It send me the message saying welcome to bb but when the battery died i havent been able to get it charge again. When I connect it to the charger the light comes on but stays on only for like 10 seconds and thats it. When I connected to the computer the same the light stays on for like 10 seconds and it goes off. I haven't been able to even turn it on.
My phone has been shutting off and coming back on randomly the past couple of days. I took it into my carrier today and they hooked it up to the computer and said that I just needed to update the software. This was fine, but by the time I got home my phone had shut off and I cannot get it to turn back on to do the updates.I have been searching these forums for hours and the only solution I can find is to wipe the phone clean and put a new OS on it. I have downloaded a new OS and I have tried several times to put in onto the phone but I can't get it to work. I have opened the application loader, but when it gets to the device application selection screen, there are no options for me to select. I tried to go into my files and choose the OS that I just downloaded but an error pops up (XML syntax error on line1) to be specific.
I have a new torch 9800 and the screen does not go to the off mode while it is not in use. I have changed the backlight and timeout setting but still not fix. Even when i lock the phone the screen the screen goes blank and it get limunated in few seconds.
i walked out the shower to use my phone and it was completely dead. Wouldnt turn on at all and no red light to assist me either lol. Anyway i plugged it in to a wall charger and after maybe forty minutes it flashed on and all was working fine for about an hour and a half. charge was half done and i was about to leave the house when....again it went dead! this is now 6 hours ago! its been on charge since and still i have had nothing..
My blackberry Torch 9800 won't turn on or charge. I've tried removing the battery, SIM and memory card. I've tried both AC and USB charging and nothing is working. When I connect it to my computer to charge through the USB the phone is not showing on my computer. I suspect the USB port on the phone is defective. What can be done?
I tried a new battery and that didn't work. The phone was in my pocket I had sent a text and 15 minutes later it was off. I tried a hard reboot and charging it. It will not power up, no red light either.
recently my screen would take afew tries with the unlock button to actually unlock, now my screen has compeletely turned off, but all my buttons still light up and work, i can touch and use the screen (although not being able to see what i am doing, i have navigated my phone to play music etc from memory) there are no cracks or damage to my screen.
Torch 9800. My L.E.D light will not turn off. It is blue. It is not flashing. It is not because of the bluetooth (I leave it off and do not use.) if the message indicator is on it is purple (blue + red). The other colors still work but end up blended with the blue. I have pulled the battery. (obviously it didn't help or I wouldn't be posting this.) I have contacted my carrier for support. No help. They will just replace the phone. My warranty is void and can't afford to buy a new torch. I have turned off everything I can and checked all options. Check the cpu and can not find anything running that shouldn't be.
My phone has been shutting down unexpectedly for the past week, with this the scroll doesn't always work and neither does the touch screen. But it has always restarted after a few minutes. Now my phone won't turn on at all I have tried the battery pull, used both the wall and USB chargers nothings working.
My Torch 9800 totally discharged. I have tried to rechange using the mains power charger (not USB). I get a red flashing light, ocassionally see the charging symbol but the phone wont power on.
I've got BuzzMe Pro.Had it on my Bold 9000.Not sure if it's part of my problem but I can't get the LED notifications to turn off after I read an e-mail.I open the mail and the little symbol for new mail goes away, but the LED keeps blinking.Sometimes, if I click on "mark prior opened", it goes away.Sometimes not.
My BB Torch 9800 camera turns on, but will not take a picture or turn off. I get a message: "Uncaught exception: Application_net_rim_bb_file _explorer (1037) is not responding, process terminated. OK. " When I click OK the camera is still on and won't turn off. I rarely use the camera function, but did recently with no problems. Transferred pix to my computer, last use. Now camera doesn't work and I cannot view pictures in folder on my phone.
I have the Torch (9800) OS version: 6.0.0.668.I've had it for just over a year without problems but recently it will freeze to the point where I have to do a battery pull because it won't resolve the issue otherwise. Even then sometimes it doesn't come back on. It will slowly flash red (LED light) and the screen will remain black. It's done this twice where it won't turn back on at all. Eventually it does but the last time it did this, it didn't work for 2 days before coming back on (of it's own accord). I updated the software when it finally came back on as I was told it could be a software issue so I now have the OS version stated at the top of this message as opposed to 6.0.0.600.
i was charging it on my laptop and all of a sudden couldn't turn on, i dont know if the charge finished...i tried a bunch of basic stuff, lock button power off power on, or whatever but nothing works...im also not getting a red blinking light that certain people got after searching on Google?
As an avid business crackberry fan (and business manager) for over 3 years, I was appalled to find that I would need to slide the keyboard out to enter my security code, especially when I would do it 50-100 times per day. As every other touchscreen phone on the market has a pattern unlock method, this is the single issue preventing from purchasing this phone(s) PLEASE ISSUE AN UPDATE/APP/PATCH anything to bring this vital security & efficiency issue up to par.
I have already installed the new Desktop Manager 6.0 that I downloaded from the RIM site.
I am thinking the safest way to not have a problem is the just restore my 9800 data from a back up rather than do the Switch Device thing. Anyone worried it might bring erroneous crap into the new 6.0 OS.
Maybe it would be better to redo my settings after the data install to make sure all is clean and working correctly. Some of the 5.0 setting would not be applicable to the new 6.0 software.
i had a blackberry torch 9800 which i backed up to the blackberry desktop then it was sent away for a repair and they replaced it with anew 9800 i have tried to recover everything from the desktop but it says i need the old blackberry first?
I did a quick search and didn't find anything about this problem. I'll try to explain what's happening and hope somebody can give me some ideas. There are 3 towers that I use when I am driving around for work, all almost in line with one another.I live at A and have EDGE service there only. I know and accept this. I work at B, where there is 3G. Tower C also has 3G.The problem I have is that when I go from A to B, my phone does not automatically switch to 3G. In fact, I let it be all day today and never switched from EDGE. Its not until I get into range of tower C that it switches over. If I come from C to B I have 3G coverage at B, but if I come from A to B it doesn't register.
Its difficult to explain with words but I hope that works. Is this a problem with the radio, or the phone, or something else? Its terribly frustrating as I spend a lot of time driving between these several coverages and want the changes to be as fluid as possible.I failed to mention that I have the newest firmware from HTC on the phone, the one that gave me WM 6.1. I didn't want to change to a cooked ROM until I got everything figured out.
On other BB's I've moved pictures from the device to the media card using the "move" function - I can't find this on the Torch. Am I overlooking something or will I have to use Desktop Manager?
does anyone no how to transfer all my contact from my Tour which is cdma with no sim card to my new Torch with sim card. i cant do it using blackberry desktop software.
