BB Software :: 8900 WiFi Icon Grayed Out - Showing White Line Under Manage Connections
May 9, 2012
I've seen it many times being brightly black and white, and under Manage Connections it shows a Green checked symbol. But most of the time the WiFi icon is grayed out and under Manage Connections it has a white little line instead of the green checked symbol.
For some reason the "Manage Connections" icon is missing from my BB menu.I did a "Show All", but it still isn't showing anywhere. The only way for me to get into this app is to assign the right side button to the "Manage Connections" app via the "Screen/Keyboard" options item.
I want to find the Manage Internet Email icon that is in the setup menu, This icon is no there. I all ready use the function of "show all icon" and still is no there. What i can do? I have blackberry 8900 with ATT carrier, dont have blackberry plan, only have unlimited data plan.
I just bought my BlackBerry curve 8520 yesterday and I am trying to connect to my house network and I did, but next to my wifi connection is a white line, and I am not sure what that means. So I am not able to connect to the internet, without my data plan? How do i make that white line a Green check, one?
Has anyone found a way to disable the "Manage Connections" hot spot at the top of the screen? I keep hitting it accidentally. I know I can just lock it so it is not tragic, I am just wondering.
I have a BB Curve 8900. Couple of days back, I left it for charging. In an hour time when I rechecked, there was some issue with display, as it was getting distorted. Post this I did a battery pull. Post that when I restarted, there was a complete white screen, nothing else. The phone is booting up, and calls are coming, (as it is vibrating and ringing, and you can pick call), but the screen is completely white, you cannot see anything else, it is completely white.
I did a complete wipe, and reinstalled the OS(OS version 5), but still it is only showing complete white screen.
New to this place but recently downloaded apps world to my bb8900 and since then I have an alert icon that is a left downward arrow surrounded by a circle. It has the red/white asteriscs that shows you it`s an alert. Can anyone tell me what it is or means and how can i erase it?
I have wifi at home. Sometimes the icon on the phone is white, sometimes it is grey.what is the difference?I have even stood right next to the router and it's been grey.Is there something in the phone that I have to change to FORCE it to use the wifi? I can't see any means of testing the speed. If I could, I'd see that GPRS gets about 5kb/s, but on wifi it should get 1.3mb.
i'm not sure if this is possible, but i have a t-mobile blackberry 8900. i was wondering if it is possible to manage multiple (2 different) gmail accounts, and a yahoo account on it? i know you can have the e-mails forwarded to your phone, but you cannot reply to them when you have them forwarded to you. so if it is possible, how exactly do you do it?
Ever since I got my T-Mo 8900 last September I have never really gotten the GPS to work quite right. When I use the maps or apps that use the GPS I never can get a connection, so I assume by default it locates me my cell towers (which always always points my locations incorrectly by a half mile or so). Is there something I am missing in the setup or options. Or is this just a result of crappy GPS capabilities on the 8900's part?
I've read around the forums and elsewhere but haven't found a solution yet Have an 8350i and with the Mobile network off (Nextel) I turn on wifi (both at home and at work) and it connects to the network, icon is white not gray Data service is on and was working before (had the phone for 9 months). I recently connected to desktop manager for the first time and updated all available programs, firmwares, etc, I'm assuming this is the root of the problem. Gmail and Facebook apps won't connect, (you need a working data connection bla bla) and same with Browser app.Any solution that doesn't involve downgrading, wiping clean? (I've pulled the battery, turned wifi on and off with no results)
I have a blackberry Curve 9300 running v5.0.0.846. The Wi-fi is always greyed out for open Wifi connections at airports, hotels, etc. I did manage to get it to turn white once but that was for a WEP-protected connection where I connected manually. Are there some settings that are incorrect? (e.g. the APN username and password is blank in TCP/IP menu).
I literally drop EVERY WiFi call after about 5-7 minutes. I get an error message "WiFi Signal Lost". I would normally just blame the WiFi network I'm on, but it does it on multiple totally different networks (home, work, Burger King, etc...). And I know for sure both home and work networks are very stable and fast. Not sure what the issue is. If I go and view the network details of the network I'm on, the signal strength is typically between -40 and -75 dBm. While in UMA mode, the phone will actually go out of UMA mode sometimes for no apparent reason, and won't go back into UMA mode until after a few minutes. The worst part is that the Home screen says I'm still connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner doesn't say UMA! It says 3G! And YES, my Mobile Network Mode is set to "WiFi Preferred". Even if I set it to WiFi Only, the top of the Home screen says I'm connected to the WiFi network, but the top right corner says OFF and the phone just goes dead!!
I use this phone for work and it needs to be reliable. Is my above WiFi Calling experience normal?? If not, does anybody know anything I can try? Are there some apps that conflict the with operation of the phone portion at all? I'm back to using the default theme now and it's still doing it... Should I try doing a factory reset? Here are the apps I can think of that I have installed:
Dark GalaxyCrunchSMSBolt Browser w/BBLauncher PluginQuickPullGoogleMapsWeather ChannelTetris by Electronic Arts I've removed a bunch of the default apps, but all other apps on the phone are ones that it came with.Another thing I've been noticing... it will randomly lock up for a few seconds and be TOTALLY unresponsive. If I'm scrolling through a page, the pointer will all of a sudden stop and become completely unresponsive for a few seconds. Then resumes like nothing happened. And, if I'm typing a long text or email and it does this total-lock up, I'll look up from the keyboard and see that none of my keystrokes were being echo'd onto the screen while it was locked up. But then it starts working again like nothing happened. BUT The strange thing is that if I'm typing while it's locked up, it doesn't appear to a buffer any of my keystrokes! (as opposed to on my old BB 8330: sometimes when it got bogged down because I had too much stuff running in the background, the keystrokes being echo'ed to the screen would sometimes slow down and lag behind my typing.... but it always kept track of what I typed and would eventually catch up.) HOWEVER, when my 9780 completely locks up like I mentioned above, it doesn't seem to recognize that I typed anything while it was locked up. when it "snaps out of it" and comes back to life, none of the keystrokes I typed while it was locked up are echo'ed onto the screen. I'm wondering if it's during these complete lockups that I'm dropping calls?
i just bought a new xperia ray a week ago. at first, the white line do not appear with the sony ericsson logo. i already updated the phone to 2.3.4. then after a few days every time i turn on the phone or plug the charger, a white line appears flashing at the bottom of the screen with the sony ericsson logo.
i am using BB8520 curve, there are two white lines appeared in my display.one is very close to the lower end of the display and the second one (appeared today) is around 1cm above
My blackberry has developed a horizontal white line problem that has worked its way up from the boottom of the screen to the top. The effect has been to create a like a heavy smoke screen over the top of the main images so to speak. how this coiuld be fixed. I have already taken the battery out and out it back.
I've been using my iphone's data to connect to the internet on my pc and my ipad for ages. The last few weeks, it kept dropping out and I had to turn personal hotspot off and on again to reconnect. Yesterday however, a new problem arose. I turn the hotspot on and both my pc and my ipad are not even showing my iphone as an option to use as a wireless internet connection. I have reset netowrk settings'' but the problem persists.
My blackberry bold 9700 screen keeps going white continuously, then today it went completly white for the whole day, i tried to plug it in and it comes up with a battery with a red line through it!
I turned off my phone then I put the SIM, after that I turned the phone as usual: Sony Ericsson -> Rogers -> then a blank screen with a white line on the above of the screen...
Just received new 8900 put in sim card and battery, connected charger and red led comes on for about 10 seconds then a battery with a red line through it appears on the screen. Can not power on. Is this icon normal when charging?
My iphone stopped working. I can only see a thing white line on the screen and the screen does not respond at all although turning the phone on vibrate makes it vibrate. The screen has been cracked for some time but has worked fine until today.
FIRST QUESTION: I got an unlocked T-Mobile Pearl 8220 and am running on my company AT&T plan. The phone is great except I can't setup internet mail (Yahoo in my case). My company phone support guys have reloaded the phone software but still no icon and they have given up. I have the AT&T data service plan. The icon is definitely not hidden, it is just not there. I saw some posts about MMS and email not working together, and MMS and all other functions works fine. Is there another way to set up Internet mail without using the phone and the Manage Internet Mail icon?SECOND QUESTION: If I can't get this to work, is there a 3rd party internet mail download that anyone can recommend?
I've noticed that my phone captures something and appears on the bottom a mm size whitish line, looks like its a small portion that doesn't get filtered with the rest of the picture. Couldn't find anything online about it I bet its just mine. Chance anyone sees this themselves??
My Iphone was fine as I was texting my friend and then all of a sudden the screen went grey with a faint white line across the top quarter on it. If found out I could fix it by resetting the phone which I did. After this, the screen came on and all 4 corners of the screen started flashing and I've tried switching it off and also resetting it. none of this worked! I
I've got Googe maps, BTC Mapper, and Endomondo on my phone. They all use GPS to track you, plot where you have been, and save tracks for you to chek out later. They work nice. I use them a lot for walking, running, and bicycling. My question though, is the GPS actually using the GPS satellites in orbit, or is it using triangulation off several cell towers to get my location? If it is using GPS satellites, why is it that if I turn off all connections (Mobile Network Sprint & Wi-Fi), I lose all GPS connections as well? If this device is atually getting signals from the satellites, what difference does it make if I am in a cell coverage area or not?I've read that, yes, the location is retrieved from the satellites, but to plot it on the maps takes the cell connection. If that is the case, is there an app that just logs longitude and latitude every second and stores it in a file that can be dumped to a map at a later time?
The reason I bring all this up is because, later this summer, I plan to go on a 2-week long cruise that will visit about a dozen different Carribean islands and I'd like to track my location. At sea, I won't be able to pick up a cell signal. Will the GPS tracking apps like google, still work? Even if I can't get a cell signal, my GPS should still be able to pick up satellite signals
