During the weekend I am helping one family member to upgrade the iOS on her iPhone 3G from 3.1 to the latest available, 4.2.1?Before the upgrade, iTunes warns me "Upgrading to iOS 4.2 will delete all of the apps and media......" and suggest me that I should apply this update on teh compuetr where I syn apps, music, videos, and photos from. The problem is, this user has never sync it with a computer. She had been using this phone for over 2 years, she has 5 pages worth of apps, and of course she would have data in some apps. She has no problem letting me make my computer as THE computer that her iPhone syncs to, and I even created a new iTunes profile for her, authorized her Apple ID, and transferred her purchase into iTunes. But when I check "Syn App" on, it tells me that all apps and data on the iPhone will be replaced with the data in the iTunes library. Well, I know what this is about, this is like.. one way overwrite type of sychronization.
But when I looked over everything again, it seems like in the iOS3 era, if you don't sync your apps with a computer on day 1 before you start using the phone, you permanately lose the ability to backup the apps' data and restore to another device? I like to emphasize again that my focus is in data, not apps, I know I could transfer purchases from phone A to iTunes to phone B, it's the inability of backing up data. Do I miss anything here? Is there still a way I could upgrade this phone from iOS 3 to iOS4, without losing her app data?

I sync IPhone 4 to my itunes for the 1st time to upgrade the IOS and now it wont show my music it says i have it but I can't find it also when I plug it into my tahoe's radio and I try to listen to the music it automatically stops and i have to unplug it and try to play what ever again it won't ring at times and I haven't even wet this phone or drop it.

Just received an email from RIM about a software upgrade for my 9700 (on ATT) but can't seem to find the update. Anyone else receive a similar email today? I hope it is for BB 6 but then again I should not get my hopes up too high about this email. Anyone?

View 8 Replies View RelatedI finally joined the BB community and I am really enjoying my 9300 Curve.Recently I saw that a friend of mine had the OS 6 system on and I have been trying to upgrade my OS 5 to 6. However,Things I have tried so far: I have used the desktop software's upgrade function to upgrade but every time I get the message that, there is no upgrade available. I also downloaded my carrier (MTN - South Africa) specific software the "9300M_PBr6.0.0_rel1879_PL6.6.0.124_A6.0.0.448" file and installed it onto my computer. I then connected my BB and tried to upgrade but was still unsuccessful.

BBM was installled but now it's nowhere to be found. He went to App World and it states that it's installed. Searched all files especially Applications where it used to be ,it's not there. Not in downloads either.

The Nexus functions just fine so far, but I need to set the APN on it to be able to use the data functions, but I can't find out what the APN setting is on the Blackberry currently so I can enter it into the Nexus. I have had several links sent to my email address so I can download them with ota downloader using my DM, but they are not .jad urls and do not work? How do I find the .jad file or url? Once I load these 3rd party apps, will they work for me? The one I want in particular is Viigo. Will it work without a BB browser? I am using opera mini 4.2. I might also add that I can not find a media manager file in my DM. I have searched the DM and the BB CD for a media manager, but can not find it in either one.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently had to rebuild my desktop machine, I have used v4.5 for a long, long time on my old 8320.I've searched Blackberry's web site for the old desktop software - the download section lists only the newer versions, it even has a link to find old versions, but that link doesn't actually deliver old versions that I can find. Anybody have a link to the v4.5 desktop?(I need the old version, I run backups of my phone on the old Windows 2000 machine, which newer Desktop versions don't run on.)
