Feb 21, 2010I am new to this forum and new to blackberry in general. I actually purchased my very first one saturday. I bought it used because I have big hands and did not know how well my fingers would work on the tiny keypad. I have a few questions. Please dont flame me because I have been searching and reading since i got home yesterday afternoon.
1.) This phone is a t-mobile phone and is currently unlocked and works with my AT&T service. Being the engineer that I am- Its hard for me to accept the t-mobile screen that comes up on start-up. Before I call and get my blackberry plan activated on my phone I would like to have all the bugs worked out. I would like to somehow make this phone think its an AT&T phone. I have downloaded crackmem and nuked this phone. I upgraded to the lastest version of AT&T software which is version 4.6, but when i power this phone up it still shows T-mobile. That drives me crazy.
2.) I read how to unlock the different vendor themes on this forum. I tried it and it did not work for me. I entered the vendor id number for AT&T. maybe I should have entered it for t-mobile. Like i said I am new and know dont know very much about these phones.
3.) I also have the OS system 5.0.411 downloaded and ready to install on my phone. I would like to figure out how to resolve the above items before I install in on my phone. I chose the 5.0.411 over the latest software because i like the unlock button on the top of the phone working. Its just convienent for me.
My main concern is I was the t-mobile start up replaced with the AT&T one. I know it can be done but I am a mechanical engineer not a software engineer and it was hard enough to write enough code to get through college, much less reprogram a phone.

Feb 17, 2010I dropped my phone not too long ago, and ever since the lock/unlock key on the top is very fussy and only works if pressed a certain way. I tried changing the lock button to the convenience key, and it works fine, except that there isn't an option to set it as the unlock key. Is there a way or program to set a key to unlock the phone? Or am I stuck using the dedicated lock button?

I have tried to unlock it using the lock key and also the * key but both dont work. I have also tried doing a hard reboot ( removing the battery and then turning on the phone. May 22, 2010I had an 8310 and just bought an 8900 brand new off of eBay. I used the 8310's speakerphone A LOT for listening to music and loved it! I always took the back of the phone off too so that it wasn't coming through 2 little holes through the top. Jun 29, 2010I recently purchased a blackberry 8900 and am trying to upgrade the software to the newest version (5.0 I assume). However whenever I check for updates via the blackberry site the desktop manger pops up and does not offer this upgrade. All it says it 4.6.1 (current) and the rest are downgrades, so I'm not quite sure what I need to do to get the new OS to even appear, much less download it and work.

Jul 14, 2011My phone is a curve 8900.......Okay, so yesterday around noon, my bbm starts freezin up in between chats, so I took the phone off and then turned it back on a few times. Seemed to be working fine, though I didnt use bbm again for the rest of the day, that on/off was frustrating enough.....I went to bed last night and had at least one bar of charge. When I woke up this morning the phone is off. Strange....because sometimes I go to bed with the battery on red and it lasts thru the nite. Okay, so I proceed to press the end call button to turn on the phone....nothing... Next move, remove and replace battery and sim card....still nothing...next step......put the phone to charge.... its been charging for two hours now and still nothing...... the red light to the top left of the phone is on & thats it... the phone still is nt coming on..!

Jan 1, 2010I think I have had this issue since I upgraded to os 5 .411. What happens is while my screen's black or even in standby, the backlight goes on by itself for a few seconds. This interrupts even auto standby. My uncles 8900 didn't have this issue till yesterday when I upgr his bb to os 5 as well. I'm forced to turn my bb upside down at nighttime.

Jan 23, 2010it seems with my new 8900 i picked up i cannot update to any os other than stock 4.6 ver(.231) or downgrade to(.114) to any other version. I have reinstalled dm to the current version and still nothing. I have download multiple new 5.0 os(.348-.411) and deleted the vendor file and when i plug the berry in after installation it goes to check for a update and it does not find any. If you then try to go thru dm and update software it only has those two older versions listed even though i installed the newer ones.
