Sep 26, 2011Is there any way to disable these highly annoying emoticons in text messages etc.? My phone always freezes for 5-10 seconds when the smiley "loads" after I've typed, for example, "" and this problem is making messaging rather difficult. I've updated the phone couple of times in the past month so that's not a working solution.

Sep 8, 2010For some reason I am missing emoticons in my SMS texting. If I am writing an SMS and click "add smiley" not all of them show up, but they do show up in blackberry messanger. For example if I wanted to click on the "yawning" emoticon or the "can't watch" emoticon to use in an SMS i can't because it doesn't appear as an option, but it will appear in a blackberry messenger message.In blackberry messenger, it shows I have 45 different emoticons I can use, but in an SMS text, it only shows I have 30 emoticons. How do I make them all appear?I am using a blackberry 9700

Sep 15, 2010I read ebooks voraciously, it's very useful when in bed with the other half and he's trying to sleep, not to need a bedside light on.My problem occurs when using an ebook reader (currently Mobipocket - though please do enlighten me if you know of one better which will easily take books from the file offerings of the Gutenberg Project):
The keypad remains bright, much brighter than the screen (especially as I set the background to black and the text to mid-grey).I'd love to be able to toggle off the keypad backlight somehow.I've found a sort-of workaround, where I go to the Clock and set Bedside Mode, then switch application back to Mobipocket - the screen dims and the keyboard turns off...
BUT only until I use the optical pad to swipe to the next page, and the keypad lights come back on and blind me. They do fade out again but by this time I'm halfway down the new page and about to swipe again!Anyone? Keyboard backlight toggle? Is such a thing ever going to be possible or is this a well-flogged long-dead horse?
BB Bold 9650 :: Jumbled Text Characters - No Emoticons During Texting
Jul 27, 2010Ok complete BB Newb here so please bear with me. I have a new 9650, my gf has a new Incredible (both Verizon). When we're SMSing and I use the emoticons , they don't show up like they're supposed to on her Incredible - she just gets the jumbled text characters, no emoticons . Is this a setting on her end? We've tried everything. If she uses the Incredible's smiley's in tm's to me, they show up fine on the BB Bold . . .

Jan 13, 2010I got a new BB 9700 Bold yesterday and having problems with setting up the sync for the calendar and the contacts which are on my outlook. My hotmail email accounts are working okay. The outlook is on my PC and is the front face for my hotmail accounts.
When I go in to the BB Desktop device manager - version 5.0.1 (latest version) , I go in to the configure option on the left and it lets me click on calendar> then I select outlook and it then lets me select 'finish'. However at this stage an error box flashes up saying 'no available message stores'.
In addition when I check the wifi config on the calendar and contacts icons on the BB device it will not let me select yes on the wireless connection for them.

Sep 3, 2010I have Outlook 2007 on my desktop computer and use BT as a service provider and for my email, my Blackberry supplier is Vodafone and I use BIS.I have noticed that if my Blackberry receives an email first I don't get the same email delivered to my desktop. If my desktop gets an email first then the same email will be delivered to my Blackberry. I was happily deleting emails from my Blackberry thinking I would have them all on my desktop but I now find I have to check what emails I have on each before I delete anything. Is this an issue that anyone has come acrosss before and how do I resolve it apart from synching the Blackberry and desktop?I'm often away from the desktop which is why I bought the Blackberry in the first place.

Jul 7, 2010I'm running v5.0.0.624. Is there a way to disable emoticons in SMS? For example, if I get an SMS with "Re: Powerpoint...", the ": P" gets turned into the "Tongue Out" emoticon.
Also, is SMS stripping out CR/LFs? I used to be able to receive messages formatted on several lines and this appears to be broken now.

Feb 8, 2014My husband's HTC one just got the latest update and he now has different "smiley" emoticons in his keyboard. His keyboard is stock and he's not rooted. The problem is no one can "see" the smiley he sends. On his end (in text message, again stock) they show up as "generic" once sent, on my end (galaxy s3, not updated past 4.1.2 yet) it's blank.

Mar 9, 2012I just bought a Samsung galaxy s2 and I am trying to figure out how to get emoticons on the keyboard. Before this phone I had an iphone 4 and I assumed that the galaxy worked in the same way as you just download an emoticon app from the app market and then they were on your keyboard. Tried that a few times in the Market but it didnt put the emoticons in the keyboard. Instead it was a completely different text messaging app all together. Would be nice if i could get them on the keyboard that comes with the galaxy instead of a completely different text messaging app. I saw the if you hold down the period button you get a few smilies but they are just the ones like this for example =) =P.

Aug 21, 2010My Bold is stuck on the boot screen (at about 75%). I've tried many battery pulls with and without the SIM and it keeps doing the same thing. I've searched what I think are all the threads on here relating to this, but I'm still stuck. I'm able to connect to the device if I run Loader.exe like a user suggested, but I don't know how/where to get software to load onto the device. All the places I've searched for an OS says I need to go into the device to find information about it. Well, I can't get into the device to do that. So, how do I know what OS to download and install? I really want to exhaust all possibilities before I have to completely wipe the device because I don't have a current backup. But, even if I wipe the device, I'm going to need to download an OS which I can't do now.

Jun 2, 2010I have recently purchased this 9700 (3 weeks ago) and am generally very pleased with the device. BUT If I leave the BB 9700 connected overnight to the computers USB Port for charging, and, obviously, after a few hours the computer will go to sleep, thus turning off the power to the USB port In the morning I find that the BB is: Off and will not turn on, unless it is power reset. In other words I have to open up the back and pull the battery for a second then after It is put back in the red light will display nevertheless it will turn on and be fine once it boots back up. There are no other indications or problems. I notice that other people have similar complaints with their BB's.
