Sony Ericsson :: Elm J10i2 - Enable Wi-Fi For E-mail And Java Me Apps
Oct 14, 2010
I performed a firmware update on my Elm j10i2 phone. I am able to connect with a Wi-Fi and browse web pages with it, but i cannot use Wi-Fi anymore for e-mail or Java Me apps.
My settings are:
Internet settings: allow local connections
Streaming settings: allow local connections
Wi-Fi : connected with a favorite and high-priority network
If i look for IMAP4/SMTP connection settings, i get the "internet settings" menu, indicating 'allow local connections Yes', but you cannot save it (it says not available now, probably because it expects GSM/GPRS/3G data accounts)
If i check my e-mail, i get the message "you have to select an internet account now" - after confirmation, i get again the unsavable "internet settings" menu.
If i start a Java application (for example AccuWeather), it does not connect over Wi-Fi, and if i choose the app's options, and then "internet settings", i get again the unsavable "internet settings" menu, this time indicating 'allow local connections No'.
Did I miss some settings menu somewhere ? Or do you need to configure GSM/GPRS/3G data accounts to get it right?
It's pretty annoying because Wi-Fi was my main incentive to buy this phone.
I am listing the changes here as me and other Esato members discover and report them: Update #1: After downloading a .jar file in Net front, you no longer need to wait for the full file name to slide by. Update #2: The camera icon in the main menu looks nicer. Update #3: After installing an application from the downloads menu, it will show a smaller version of the app's icon. Update #4: The main menu opens notably faster than before. Update #5: You can now turn Clear Voice and Noise Shield on and off from the Calls menu in Settings whereas before you could only do it whilst in a call. Update #6: The significant blue-orange horizontal lines have been reduced to insignificant, hard-to-see purple horizontal lines.
I wanted to upgrade the external memory to max on my ELM, but come across some dilemma and would to ask you guys. Are ELM (J10i2) support Micro SDHC version? Coz both SDHC and Non-SDHC pricing is not so different in my country so might as well buy the HC (if supported)
I downloaded a couple of apps from Sony Ericsson's web site including a game that I used to play on my Sony Ericsson Z520a phone previoulsy, called "Quadrapop." It's a free Java application, and there was a version specific to the Satio, which is also an S60 5 edition phone, just like the 5800 which I am trying to install on.
When I try installing it, I get a message, "Certificate error" followed by something to the effect of, "contact supplier" I have been able to install some other Satio Java apps on my 5800, but not Quadrapop. Is there anything I can do do get around this issue?
It was so easy on my old Nokia, just insert "p" between the number and conference pins etc. When I use this on the J10i2 nothing happens and I have to enter manually.
I notice some problem regarding my SE ELM's camera flash. It seem can't be turn off.Though I already selected no flash option, the phone still fires it.I think it some kind a software bugs because when selecting twilight landscape in scene menu (where the option is having no flash) the flash is completely off.I tried reflashing R7CA61, it seem doesn't solve anything, anybody could help me on this and anybody experience the same?
For a long time AT&T nee Cingular has locked me out of their MEdia (AT&T) Mall, and prevented me from running desirable apps by signing them with a "secret" certificate only available on their branded phones.Well, thanks to a2uploader and the recent acquisition of a locked AT&T phone I have been able to snag these Preferred and Trusted Java signing root certificates. As well as the entire AT&T customization package, which gives me a good template to play with my own if I so desire. (As an aside, I can also now download from the AT&T Mall using a Firefox add-on which allows me to spoof a particular supported phone's User-Agent string.)I digress. When I sent these certificates to my unlocked K850i it places them in the Trusted Cert store rather than the Java Cert store and the apps still have problems running and fail to install using the signed JAD. I have not tried it, but I assume my K790a will behave the same way. Now, the XML which defines the AT&T customizations references the certificates as well as the proper store location for them. Is this my only way to force a cert into the Java store? This also leads into how can I install client certificates?
There has been a lot going on about J10i2 Elm's firmware release "R7CA061". I do not know if the answers team is aware of this particular firmware, but if so, me, and many other Elm users are waiting for answers on these question:
1) Why is R7CA061 only available via FOTA? SE Update Service even thinks that R7CA061 is older than R7BA076, even though R7CA061 only came out less than a week ago.
2) Why are there no official notes about this release on the Sony Ericsson website? It is not listed here http://www.sonyericsson.com/update?cc=gb&lc=en . It almost seems as if Sony Ericsson "accidentally" released this firmware in a test stage.
3) Why do the widgets in the home screen no longer work after this update?
I have an ELM J10i2. I find conversations nothing but a pain and lose messages. is there anyway i can just view messages the regular way through inbox and delete or disable the conversations?
I would like to know the best 3 top Java applications 3 games that you people use and why. Applications could include VOIP, IM, motion sensing, GPS. I am searching for one myself. But other than Google maps haven't been able to find anyone like wisepilot with voice navigation. And guys the apps should be free.
i am wondering is sony ericsson's java platform, created by symbian or is it just a java on it's own. do you understand wat i am asking? iam just wondering because ive always wanted to know
I know AmazeGPS, Nav4all, wisepilot, wayfinder etc. but they all have maps online. Are there satnav programs for java phones (Elm) with offline maps too? Or maybe via a hack?
Every time I try to install a java application on my wife's k800i I get the message 'operation failed'. I am sure I am doing things correctly because I do the same thing with my c902 and it works fine. Any ideas?

No MH100 BT headset - just a standard wired stereo headset. No EC100 docking station - just a standard charger. No 8GB SD card - just a 2GB one.
Available in Germany from June, the "normal" Aino will go out of production. Is that really? What we are waiting for. What we are looking forward, end at this point! I wonder what is gonna happen to JAVA OS.
I've searched for a remove-java-security-popups patch for K610, but can't find one. Does anyone have on lying around? I currently have a remove-java patch for W800 and K800. If you have one for other SE models, please send to mr_lou (at) vip dot cybercity dot dk or attach here.
What are the best java mobile softwares available out there for word processing (something equivalent to word, to read *.doc files) and to read PDF files? (I was unable to open any PDF using Zesium MobilePDF )
I have two apps which I want to uninstall, however when I go via the app manager it states 'Could not remove'. The same happens if I try and go via the organise then delete function. I have uninstalled other apps, but these two are being very stubborn.
Recommend sites that have vivaz specified pages of apps that actually work? When I search for S60v5 most don't work. I have spent a lot of time downloading stuff only to find that it is "not supported" or doesn't work for a variety of other reasons. Very frustrating. The Vodafone and SE sites are fairly limited in depth. SE is also so slow it is almost not worth opening. Today I downloaded two jar files. One worked and the other didn't. I have no idea why. However 50% is a good ratio based on the experience I have had of trying to get anything to work on my vivaz.
I'm a happy owner of a SE Vivaz. But i do have a problem with some of the apps included with the phone for example: The facebook app (included) just says "Wait" The twitter app (included) never signs me in if i press: "Sign In", but it works if i press "have an account?" it logs me in? WTF? Google maps, Ebuddy and more doesn't work either of pretty much the same reason.I checked with my phone company (Telia DK), and we have full 3G support where i live. However i don't have Wi-Fi here right now.
Recently i noticed half of my apps n games got duplicated... and they cannot be deleted showing "operation failed" what is the cause of this? and how can this be fixed? i think its possible with formatting the memory card but i would rather avoid that.
