Samsung Galaxy S II :: Playing Shows From BBC IPlayer
Oct 22, 2011
Just bought S2. First smart phone; choose the S2 rather than iPh.
Live just outside London and would like to use my S2 to play programs provided on BBC iPlayer. My S2 came with a BBC iPlayer icon available straight out of the box. When I click the bbc iplayer icon it displays a program that the bbc iPlayer site is promoting (the Graham Norton show in this instance). Firstly I'd like to play any program from iPlayer but when for example I click on Graham Norton show nothing happens but a message shows on the s2 (within the BBC app) stating "Please switch to Wi-Fi connection to play this program" - note: from the settings screen on the S2 I have wi-fi set on (I am also at home, where other devices are using my home wi-fi).
This is my first post and I'm new to the Galaxy S2. I took ownership of a new phone early this week (S2) and did the firmware upgrade over Kies - this seemed to make sense given that it was the official latest release firmware.
I tried to use BBC iPlayer last night. The first time I ran it, it said I needed Flash. It took me to the market and I downloaded Adobe Flash 11.0. I tried iPlayer again. All the menus, navigation etc work, but when I select a program it doesn't show any video. I don't even get the little triangle to click on to play it. I went to the iPlayer website and tried viewing from there - I assume that uses Flash as well, and all worked fine, video and sound.
I know mine is. Just playing PES2011 and its very hot. No heat warnings like my SGS did to me once but still. Its hot and feels as if the screen is the heat sink?
When I first got the phone it was on gingerbread 2.3.3 - now ive updated the firmware to 2.3.5 I can no longer play videos on the BBC website...[URL]When I click on play the red 'loading' circle goes round and round and round...nothing loads.I have flash 11 installed, tried resetting the browser to default.
Is there any way of stopping audible notifications when playing music on the S2? I find the pause in the music and beep really annoying, but can't find a way of switching it off.
My galaxy s2 is rooted on 2.3.4 and it has started to flash up saying an update is available but when i go to update it it then says there isn't an update available
Over the past several weeks, while not being used (ie lock screen) my phone has randomly played about 10-20 seconds of audio while the screen remains black. It has consistently been from what seems to be a video where the person is showing a DIY for auto repair. When I unlock it i do not find any video apps open. I have not viewed any videos like this but this seemed to start after i was looking at some cars for sale online.
I was just playing a game, the phone got hot and turned off. I let it cool, it wouldn't turn on again. I noticed the blue light in the upper left stayed on and the phone was pulsing/vibrating a bit. I have been charging the phone for the last hour thinking that might be the issue. No. The blue light is still on. I tried removing the battery and SD card for 10 seconds before retrying to boot my phone. Nothing abut blue light and some pulses from time to time.
whenever i try to play an online video that is not on Internet my browser crashes i tried different browser such as opra mini and dolphin but still no luck and this happens on different videos for ex:
on the same site i can play a video normally but an other video on the same site crashes my browser some times i hit play the buffering starts and stops at 1% and then it freezes up and crashes can anyone tell me whats going on with my s2
I wonder if anyone here knows how to load standard subtitles files (.srt) while playing video files (like .avi) on my SGS2. There's an idle "Subtitles" button on the bottom right of the player's menu, which I hadn't been able to use. Should I try a different one from the Android market?
I have an SIII but no one seems to be viewing those forums so I thought I would ask here. I've always stored my music in folders sorted by artist and never bothered with tagging as long as the file names started with numbers. I have over 300 gigs in music so I'm not about to start tagging now. my 32 gig sd card has 4500 music files. The music player doesn't play nice with my sorting - artist view winds up showing the same artists 10 times or sorts out compiltation albums while folder view has every single album (300-400 or so) sorted alphabetically.
I would like to go into the external sd card and play directly from there. I can do that, but only a single track will play and you can't use any other apps or browse when the track plays. Am I stupid or something? This is the main reason why I've always used Cowon music players or my sansa clip, I can simply go into folders and play. I have media monkey and love it but even there I use the folder directory.
I set a screen lock code today and used it several time with no problems. Tonight the unlock screen shows 'Enter Password to Unlock' but when I enter the pin code, it will not unlock.
Just wanted to ask, after the latest update. It feels like you really need to press down on the power button to get the shut down menu to show up.If i don't press down hard enough or right, the shut down menu shows up then it locks and the lock screen shows up. it's quite straight forward, and I don't remember having to hold down the power button for that long for it to shut down.
I recently purchased a samsung SGH-F480. Thanks to this forum website I was able to enter the proper codes so it would work with my provider (At&t). However, the icon always shows as G network, and not 3G. Does anybody know what the problem is or/and how to fix it? My phone is 3G capable, so I know the phone should be able to do that. What can I do? Who is "in charge" of that: the phone or the service provider?
I have a Samsung Rogue I got in Feb. And I am trying to get the music to work on it. I was able to upload music to the phone but everytime I click the My Music button my phone freezes, and I cant even turn if it off by pressing and holding the end button. I have to take out the battery. What it might be or what I can do to stop it?
I have a blackberry bold and am wondering if BBC iPlayer shows can be seen on my Bold 9000?I saw a post on the forum a while ago but it's no longer here.
When I use BBC iplayer the program selected runs ok, but if I try to move it on through the slide bar it moves it on but then displays the slide bar permanently and the rotating circle, which is annoying.
Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. The battery life is a bit of a letdown, but I've gotten the hang of USM, so there aren't any issues there while in USM, am I still able to activate the music player via my headset? I do play music quite frequently while I'm travelling, so I'd like to know if that's still possible while in USM.
I've ripped thousands of songs to my Windows 7 laptop. The directory structure is: Artist Name/Album/xxxxxxx.wma
I'd like to add a 128GB micro-SD card to my Galaxy S5 that will hold all my music. My phone has the 'Google Play Music' app installed but it doesn't support WMA files. The Google forum suggests I download their 'Music Manager' program for Windows. Will this work on an android phone?
Any other app that will accomplish what I want (using the above directory structure copied to the Galaxy micro-SD card)?
Can anyo0ne explain why the N900 cannot play streaming video like BBC iplayer or TV Catchup. Even you tube videos are blocky and jumpy. I thought one of the great selling features was that it could play flash. The iphone yet again wins in this category - may not be flash but they seem to have a workaround that works unlike the N900 - or am I doing something wrong? Is this another underpowered nokia device? I don't understand when the lesser models like the 5800 and the N97 can do these things - Why do Nokia get is so nearly right but in the end always seem to fail. And please don't tell me the N900 is a "work in progress" there are some things it should be capable of out of the box.
Current Devices:
N900, N97, 5800 & iPhone.
nukea - we will get the perfect device in the end (but not this year!)
I have finally solved the issue of setting you the BBC iplayer so it asks you how you would like to connect when you run the application rather then it always by default connecting to the service provider in my case (orange).
Step 1 - download the newest software update for the N97 you will need software version V 20.0.019 software version date is 13-10-09.
Step 2 - download the latest BBC iplayer version this should be version 2.5.0(141).
Step 3 - from the phone go to menu then go to web once opened go to options then settings once in settings go to general and set access point to ask when needed.
Step 4 - from menu go to Videos & TV go to option in Video and TV then settings and set network connection to ask when needed if its not already set to this.
Step 5 - from menu go to settings then connectivity then destinations then internet and set your required WIFI connection to priority 1.
Step 6 - from menu go to applications then open realplayer then settings then go to streaming settings then network and the access point in use should display your required WIFI connection e.g. mine shows my home network talktalk. If your required network is not displayed then open the access point in use and select the required WIFI connection.
Step 7 - turn your phone off and take out the battery for 2mins then turn your phone back on.
Step 8 - when the phone turns on and the phone displays select connection you should see internet underneath it should be displayed your WIFI connection. Do not select anything. Instead go to options then go to select access point and choose your service provider e.g. orange Internet.
Step 9 - once your phone is set-up and all widgets are set all you have to do to use BBC iplayer is go to options on the home screen select content to offline mode then content to online mode then open the BBC iplayer. The phone will then ask for a connection select your wifi connection and your away.
i hope the above steps help you and work as they worked for me just remember after you do the 8 steps above you only need to repeat step 8 everytime you wish to use BBC iplayer.
I used to be able to listen to Radio1 on my N97 via the iplayer app, however recently when I went to use it it does not work. Have tried it over a couple of days and still faulty. iplayer starts, I select radio, select radio1, select the day and that is were it stops.
Just upgraded from an N8 to the 808. All good but I am getting the unable to obtain licence message for downloaded programmes from the Iplayer. I have I installed the WMDRM DLA plug in but no joy. Checked my N8 and this is still able to acquire the licence.
