View 1 RepliesI had an 8310 and just bought an 8900 brand new off of eBay. I used the 8310's speakerphone A LOT for listening to music and loved it! I always took the back of the phone off too so that it wasn't coming through 2 little holes through the top. Is the sound quality and volume of the 8900 equal to or greater than the 8300 with its batter door off?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a blackberry 8900 and am trying to upgrade the software to the newest version (5.0 I assume). However whenever I check for updates via the blackberry site the desktop manger pops up and does not offer this upgrade. All it says it 4.6.1 (current) and the rest are downgrades, so I'm not quite sure what I need to do to get the new OS to even appear, much less download it and work.

View 4 Replies View RelatedCan anyo0ne explain why the N900 cannot play streaming video like BBC iplayer or TV Catchup. Even you tube videos are blocky and jumpy. I thought one of the great selling features was that it could play flash. The iphone yet again wins in this category - may not be flash but they seem to have a workaround that works unlike the N900 - or am I doing something wrong? Is this another underpowered nokia device? I don't understand when the lesser models like the 5800 and the N97 can do these things - Why do Nokia get is so nearly right but in the end always seem to fail. And please don't tell me the N900 is a "work in progress" there are some things it should be capable of out of the box.
Current Devices:
N900, N97, 5800 & iPhone.
nukea - we will get the perfect device in the end (but not this year!)
I have finally solved the issue of setting you the BBC iplayer so it asks you how you would like to connect when you run the application rather then it always by default connecting to the service provider in my case (orange).
Step 1 - download the newest software update for the N97 you will need software version V 20.0.019 software version date is 13-10-09.
Step 2 - download the latest BBC iplayer version this should be version 2.5.0(141).
Step 3 - from the phone go to menu then go to web once opened go to options then settings once in settings go to general and set access point to ask when needed.
Step 4 - from menu go to Videos & TV go to option in Video and TV then settings and set network connection to ask when needed if its not already set to this.
Step 5 - from menu go to settings then connectivity then destinations then internet and set your required WIFI connection to priority 1.
Step 6 - from menu go to applications then open realplayer then settings then go to streaming settings then network and the access point in use should display your required WIFI connection e.g. mine shows my home network talktalk. If your required network is not displayed then open the access point in use and select the required WIFI connection.
Step 7 - turn your phone off and take out the battery for 2mins then turn your phone back on.
Step 8 - when the phone turns on and the phone displays select connection you should see internet underneath it should be displayed your WIFI connection. Do not select anything. Instead go to options then go to select access point and choose your service provider e.g. orange Internet.
Step 9 - once your phone is set-up and all widgets are set all you have to do to use BBC iplayer is go to options on the home screen select content to offline mode then content to online mode then open the BBC iplayer. The phone will then ask for a connection select your wifi connection and your away.
i hope the above steps help you and work as they worked for me just remember after you do the 8 steps above you only need to repeat step 8 everytime you wish to use BBC iplayer.
I used to be able to listen to Radio1 on my N97 via the iplayer app, however recently when I went to use it it does not work. Have tried it over a couple of days and still faulty. iplayer starts, I select radio, select radio1, select the day and that is were it stops.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've been successfully watching TV on my Nokia 5800 using the preinstalled BBC iPlayer app for sometime without problem. But for the past month, although I can connect to the app, and browse through the content pages, whenever I press click to play nothing happens - and the programme content (tv and radio) simply doesn't play. Any thoughts? Is RealPlayer involved?

My Iplayer has stopped working , it fires up but when I clik to play nothing happens or it pops up a script error.I'm on v4 firmware and had no issues with it until the last week .
I have uninstalled and reinstalled but with no success . I haven't installed any new apps recently .
I work nights, and until last year was able to convert BBC Listen Again radio programmer to RealPlayer and listen to them again in the evening when at work with headphones on my N5800XM I used to convert (using iplayer converter) the files, but for some reason the BBC stopped the RealPlayer format and since then I have been unable to listen again to any local programmes (think they are in windows media format now).
I say Listen Again, but I can listen to the main National BBC radio programmes, such as, BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, etc., but I desperately want to listen to Local BBC Radio.
Am I doing something wrong? I can access Iplayer through my mobile, and find the required programme. When I press yes, it takes me straight back to the "Do you want to download Iplayer" and wont let me go any further. I already have Iplayer on my mobile and can watch TV progrmmes and as said before National Radio Programmes.
Getting desperate now, and thought it a bit too trivial to mention it on the forums, but it is sooooo frustrating. Someone else must have come across this problem. Or maybe, it is something you can't do and then I can stop fretting.
Just upgraded my very stable G3 from 4.4.2 to 5.0 this afternoon. Everything seems to work except the BBC iPlayer app which will not live stream anymore (no video or sound but the timebar indicates it is running). Strangely it does does download and then plays. I find it difficult to get out of the app - it takes 3 or 4 taps. The last time it froze the phone and I had to remove the battery, something I have never had to do before. I have done a factory reset - that makes no difference. It's a 32Gb D855 and I'm unlocked on Three.
View 11 Replies View RelatedThe E7 is excellent, ignore the rubbish reviews say. However, when i use the BBC iplayer and download a programme it starts and after about 5 minutes or 50MB it freezes and the phone crashes.Tried to run it through Opera and got the message not available for your phone. So stuck with the native browser. Tried to reinstall from the BBC and told not available for my phone.

View 7 Replies View RelatedThis is my first post and I'm new to the Galaxy S2. I took ownership of a new phone early this week (S2) and did the firmware upgrade over Kies - this seemed to make sense given that it was the official latest release firmware.
I tried to use BBC iPlayer last night. The first time I ran it, it said I needed Flash. It took me to the market and I downloaded Adobe Flash 11.0. I tried iPlayer again. All the menus, navigation etc work, but when I select a program it doesn't show any video. I don't even get the little triangle to click on to play it. I went to the iPlayer website and tried viewing from there - I assume that uses Flash as well, and all worked fine, video and sound.
I'm having a problem getting BBC iPlayer to run when the screensaver cuts in or when I move to another screen ( e.g. home screen).
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust bought S2. First smart phone; choose the S2 rather than iPh.
Live just outside London and would like to use my S2 to play programs provided on BBC iPlayer. My S2 came with a BBC iPlayer icon available straight out of the box. When I click the bbc iplayer icon it displays a program that the bbc iPlayer site is promoting (the Graham Norton show in this instance). Firstly I'd like to play any program from iPlayer but when for example I click on Graham Norton show nothing happens but a message shows on the s2 (within the BBC app) stating "Please switch to Wi-Fi connection to play this program" - note: from the settings screen on the S2 I have wi-fi set on (I am also at home, where other devices are using my home wi-fi).
if/how I can play bbc iplayer on my S2
Hopefully someone can help me here. I have just received a brand new nokia 5800 chrome edition from T-Mobile. From what I can tell I think it's running version 31.0.101 firmware. One of the 1st apps I want to install is the BBC iplayer one. I browsed to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer on the phone which prompted me to download the software. Downloaded and installed fine.
Now when I go to open the app it pops up with "Allow connection to network" message. I click ok it instantly connects via T-Mobile internet. As the iplayer only allows steaming via wifi (for t-mobile anyway) obviously this connection method is no good.
I have ready that RealPlayer basically controls the back-end of iplayer so I have turned the default connection in their to my wifi connection. Still does exactly the same thing (tries to connect via T-Mobile). I have also put the wifi as the deafult connection in settings>connectivity>destinations and it Still automatically tries to connect to T-Mobile internet with no other options.
I've unistalled and re-installed the app many times. I've also moved my WAP connections to their own seperate folder and just left the wifi as the main option, but still it tries to automatically connect using the T-Mobile WAP.
I've also tried putting the phone in offline mode and then opening the app but it just says connection unavailable in offline mode in an endless loop that is impossible to stop without turning the phone off.
This is really frustrating. All in all it seems like a great little phone, just a shame I'm having such trouble with the 1st app I decide to put on it!
If anyone can offer any help I would be most grateful.
I installed the latest Nokia OS for my N86 yesterday, v 21.006. I now find that the BBC iPlayer doesn't work. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled, and downloaded fresh videos of Dr Who etc, etc.
But still I get the error message "unable to play either sound or video clip, Trying to play partially." And then all i get is the sound of Dr Who fighting the daleks. This all worked fine before I applied the update. I can still watch videos recorded using the camera, and via the France 24 application.
I will call Nokia Helpline, but am expecting to get told that this is due to a problem with the BBC iPlayer.
When I first got my X6 I was able to play BBC iPlayer. After I upgraded the phone's firmware, I cant play iPlayer programs and can't find the app in OVI suite/ I'm sure it was there before. Any idea where to download it?
