Nokia :: Ovi Maps Update / Eats Up Device Memory
May 23, 2010
Just updated from Ovi Maps 3.03 to 3.04 and my E55 device memory went down by 10Mb. Why is this? It's an update! The size of the installers differs by only 500kb.Every time I update the maps app, my device memory just shrinks away until I have to reset the phone to reclaim the memory.Do the updates actually replace the old files or just add bloat? Also had to re-download and re-install all maps and voice guidence (to SD memory) after the upgrade.

Looking at my Installed Applications on my 5800XM I realised that there are the following two entries:
Nokia Maps 9MB
Ovi Maps 7MB
Are they supposed to be both there? Shouldn't the Nokia Maps application have been overwritten when updated to Ovi Maps? Can I manually remove the Nokia Maps application to free these 9MB of C: memory?

like in the topic: I have a problem with rSAP usage in Skoda nav-system Columbus: it stays ON searching for the car nav-system & eats battery level (just being standby): within 24 hrs completely empty. With bluetooth turned on, without previously connecting to my Skoda nav-system, the phone can run for about 10 days standby.Only if I turn off manually the bluetooth subsystem (not just the nav-system connection, but completely turn off bluetooth), then the phone doesn't eat through my battery-level. I dont want that, because it's not neccessary (I have to turn it back on again later & forget to do that), sometimes I forget and find out people can't reach me coz my phone is battery-empty.

The maps in my Nokia X6 16gb are gone after i ran an update in which it says will delete the old maps and voices to replace newer ones. Upon completion of the update, when i checked maps that are available in my device,Instead of new updated maps, there is only 1 map left which is Hong Kong and Macau, and i don't live in either one of it. Tried downloading the maps through the Ovi Suite, always got the message "The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out"

I've bought a new 5800 Xpress music recently and have three questions with Ovi maps:
1. I don't see any satellite (photo) maps when selecting the satellite mode in the display options; instead, the map is just filled with a pattern of alternating dark green and light green linear areas. How do I enable real satellite data, as shown in the attached picture?
2. The update speed of the map when navigating on foot or by car seems very slow. Is there some way to increase / improve this?
3. The phone doesn't seem to recognize really well if I hold it vertically or horizontally. Can I improve that behavior, or switch between manually?

How do i free up the internal phone memory of e90..??? it seems to pile up everyday even though i clear the cache, delete all emails from nokia email, what else should be done to free this up.also Nokia maps slows down tremendously causing the phone to eventually hang or slow down. sometimes it works perfectly fine but usually it gives me the slowing down or hanging problem.could the memory problem and maps problem be related to each other?

I can't think of a good reason why Ovi Maps has to be installed on the phone memory. In fact I don't see any reason why any application other than the firmware would need to install on the phone memory. I keep running into memory low issues because I only have 5 MG free on my phone memory, without Ovi Maps I can have up to 27 MG. Am not sure what Nokia is thinking but why can't I install Ovi Maps on the extended memory? I delete the browser cache frequently. I have my mails stored on the extended memory, I always delete temprorary installation files, and still the maximum I can get is 5 MG. Also why I can't uninstall quickoffice? I am aware of some of the memory tips which has been discussed in some forum but it didn't really help me. I am guessing my ultimate solution is to just uninstall Ovi Maps. I like to know anyone here have the same problem.

I've installed OVI Maps 3.03 over Maps 3.01. Poor me! Now I have 2.5 Mb left on my C drive. Vs. 16 Mb as of yesterday. Should I add that "application manager - installed apps" does not start anymore?

Of late post the latest firmware update, Nokia Maps is annoying me very much with "Memory Full. Close some applications" error message when I keep driving only within about 5 minutes of initiating the navigation. When I intitate the application, I have about 48MB of free RAM on my N97 Mini which is very quickly consumed by maps. This is too irritating when you're driving and especially when you're in a new place where you need a lot of assistance from GPS. Loat hopes in Nokia and Symbian these days due to multiple problems... Have tried factory reset/full format etc., but no go.

I am replacing my N97 for the N900. I use Nokia Maps a lot and can't get info about the difference between these phones. Is it possible to drive the car and use the N900 as a navigator like the N97 ? Please let me know about your experience regarding Nokia Maps. Is there an upgrade for Maemo Nokia Maps in near future?

First off I just wanna say THANK YOU NOKIA for releasing this update for FREE.Im taking of my hat for you :-) Very much appreciated!I just have one question, is it possible to use the MAP program in offline mode (not connected to internet?)Before I did the update I was able to use the GPS without any internet connection, atm I need to be online to use the GPS and MAPs. I been reading back and forth for 2˝ hours now searching for the MAP download to put on my memory card. But I cant find any link etc that get me to download the entire Swedish map (so I can use the GPS without internet connection) Or isnt that possible with this free service anymore ? (cause connecting to internet everyday and always when using the GPS can and will be very expensive The Phone is : Nokia 5800 XpressMusic The Phone Version is : V31.0.101 (Date: 19-9-2009) -updated yesterday OviMAPS (in phone) : V3.03 So could someone answer if its possible to download an map to the memorycard (as before) and use it offline?

I have a Nokia N97, happily using Ovi Maps and recieved a text stating newer, better more efficient version now available, so I updated through the software updater, and now it WILL NOT NAVIGATE. I use mine in offline mode, so it uses GPS only, and it finds me, and my current lcoation very quickly, but then when you add a route it just locks onto "Waiting for GPS" with a map image of my destination address, and no matter where I am location wise the GPS navigation NEVER starts. A family member has an N97 also, from another network provider, and exactly the fault has appeared on there N97 since upgrading to the newer maps program. Also on both phones the satnav GPS signal strength indicator has been removed from the screen on newer ovimaps so you cannot even see what is happening.

My E72 is navigating fine with turn-by-turn voice instructions with spoken street names and street-level views of cities on the several continents from maps I had previously downloaded. All seems very fine. But Ovi Suite is giving me the bad news that it "Cannot find maps or voice guidance files on your device."

My Motorola Droid is a battery eater. I expected this when the phone was on, but it also is when powered off (I mean POWERED OFF by holding the power key and selecting Power Off, not just put in Standby or Airplane Mode). I turned it off with a fully charged battery and put it away for the night. Eight hours later, I turned it on and the battery was at 60%. The only way I can prevent this from happening is by removing the battery. The battery use indicator doesn't help much.
I was wondering whether this is a known Droid problem. I got the phone used from Verizon Wireless after I lost my other phone, which was an HTC Eris. The Eris ate battery when on but not when shut down. If this problem is specific to my phone I need to talk to Verizon about it.

I've got a few questions about my AT&T Curve 8310...I was looking through "Options > Applications" and saw that the app that took the most memory was "Content Store." Anyone know what this is, if I can delete it, & what would happen if I did? Is there any way to shrink this down some?
My address book takes up quite a bit of memory; so does my calendar -- both of which were synced from Outlook. Is there any way to have the addresses/calendar data stored onto my microSD instead of the device memory?
Lastly, I noticed that when I call people using my Curve, it shows up on their caller ID as "private name, private number." Where can I change this setting? Is it in my provider's settings (which I can access online) or on the BlackBerry's settings somewhere? Also, is it possible to at least NOT have it show private when calling those on my address book, such as friends & relatives?
