Nokia :: 5800 GPS / Maps Offline Possible To Download To Memory Card
Jan 31, 2010
First off I just wanna say THANK YOU NOKIA for releasing this update for FREE.Im taking of my hat for you :-) Very much appreciated!I just have one question, is it possible to use the MAP program in offline mode (not connected to internet?)Before I did the update I was able to use the GPS without any internet connection, atm I need to be online to use the GPS and MAPs. I been reading back and forth for 2½ hours now searching for the MAP download to put on my memory card. But I cant find any link etc that get me to download the entire Swedish map (so I can use the GPS without internet connection) Or isnt that possible with this free service anymore ? (cause connecting to internet everyday and always when using the GPS can and will be very expensive The Phone is : Nokia 5800 XpressMusic The Phone Version is : V31.0.101 (Date: 19-9-2009) -updated yesterday OviMAPS (in phone) : V3.03 So could someone answer if its possible to download an map to the memorycard (as before) and use it offline?
So I've just downloaded the new free Ovi Maps for my 5800 and it's pretty nice, except for one thing: even when I set the connection to offline it still connects to the Internet every time the app is started (which, even though the app is fullscreen is visible when, for example you go into the settings screen). It seems though that after a minute or so it disconnects, but still, the old Maps app asked on startup whether to connect, this one just does without asking every time it's started.Am I missing some hidden setting?
i'm from italy and i've just installed on my nokia 5800 the new ovi maps suite (after having updated the phone firmware, now i have 40.0.005).I've already unchecked the assisted-gps option in "positioning".When i use Maps, the phone finds the signal and track my location perfectly; after having set a destination it starts giving me directions (correct) but, after a few seconds, asks me to go to the shop. Since i don't want to go online (my data plan is awful) i select "no" and the planification disappears, returning on the interactive map. I'd like to know what to to, if there's a method to use offline navigation without additional roaming cost.
I've recently had to reformat my memory card as the camera refused to work with the memory card inserted. I took off all pics, videos and music and saved them to the computer. However, when I've gone back to the Ovi store and into the "my stuff" tab, I cannot click the download button on many of the apps (mainly the ones that I actually use which makes it even more annoying). My husband has told me to go into "settings", then "application manager", then finally into "installed apps" and delete the files for the apps that I would like to reinstall (to reactivate the download button again). fantastic idea, but the file names don't give me any sort of clue as to what app they're for. I asked if it would be quicker and easier just to delete everything from the "installed apps" folder, at which point my husband nearly had a breakdown and told me not to do that as there were files in that folder that relate to firmware downloads and could cause more problems by deleting them.
I am a developer and I'm working on a prototype application using Qt on my E7-00.
I would like the users of my application to use maps in offline mode.
So If I use Nokia Ovi Suit , it will take hours to download all the maps (approx 9 GB of data)..more importantly ovi suit refuses to download maps if my phone is not connected to the pc.
Is there a way I can download the maps as a zip file or something from my pc and then later install them on my phone? If yes..where can I find the downlaod links? I am using an E7-00 with Symbain Anna update (round icons..cool!!)
Looking at my Installed Applications on my 5800XM I realised that there are the following two entries:
Nokia Maps 9MB
Ovi Maps 7MB
Are they supposed to be both there? Shouldn't the Nokia Maps application have been overwritten when updated to Ovi Maps? Can I manually remove the Nokia Maps application to free these 9MB of C: memory?
I need some body, tell my how can I install ovi content on the memory card when I use Wifi on my handset 5800.cause all programs immediately goes and installed on phone memory and it is almost full
Totally new to this phone, with the option to download applications. Having great fun in doing so but not always given the option of where to save them to with the end result that they are saving to the phone memory which keeps filling up and then giving me an error message. Can anyone please tell me how to move apps from the phone memory to the card memory. And can anyone also tell me if I have an icon on the 'Menu' screen and the 'Apps' screen, does this mean the application has been downloaded twice and do I need both or can I delete one (presumably the 'Menu' one)?
I recently bought Nokia 5800. When installed any jar or .sis files on Card Memory, eventually my Phone Memory is getting used. Even though I am very diligent in selecting Card Memory while installation, Phone Memory is getting reduced. Kindly Help me please.
I got a nokia 5800 xpressmusic few months back. Phone's software is updated to version 40.2.005 and latest ovi maps v 3.04 is also present. I wanted to get the free navigation service and and connected my phone to ovi suite for downloading country maps. However, got the following error after clicking on the "update maps" section: Cannot find maps or voice guidance files in your device. this is due to either of the following reasons:
-Your device doesn't support the nokia maps application - The maps and voice guidance files in your device are corrupted."
I recently got a Nokia 5800 Music phone on contract, I've already had to get an exchange once because the battery was dodgy on it. I'm now having problems with my 8GB memory card, when I put it into the phone it said "Memory Card Corrupted", So I formatted it, as it had said to (lost all my music from it) And now it only shows up as 30MB, **bleep**? Also, when I take pictures and such, they're all showing up as corrupted (since they save straight to memory card) - I called up the company who I've got the contract phone from, and they really weren't any help.
When I go to gallery /images & videos. only thing in it is msyncinit, dwnl imgs and dwnl vid all my pics are on memory card but in gallery i can't see it
During an OTA Ovi Store software update the phone froze with a white screen and all buttons including power button dead .
Removed battery and reset gets past boot screen then message memory card full ( 16 GB so i dont think so at all )
Fails to connect im mass storage mode so i cannot format the card . *#7370# and attempt at 3 button trick got knowhere .
Managed to format the memory card but it still refuses to connect via mass storage or PC Suite .After *#7370# Opening file manager results in a never ending opening message .Any further ideas before i take the memory card back to CPW ( who also sold the phone )
As I'm editing music files / installing apps to card, I'd like to do regular backups (5800 XPress Music). Can I just copy all the contents of the card over to "Backup" folder on PC harddrive (using phone in "storage" mode) ? If I then moved these over to a new card, would this be transparent to the phone?Or is there some fancy function of Ovi software that is needed to do this ?
After having this phone for more then half a year, I finally decided to post my complaints, now that my phone really stopped working properly. I'll bullet-point it in chronological order so as to make it clear, because there are too many problems I would like to share with you.
1. After I got the phone( firmware version 21.something), I very very liked it. When I compared it to my friend's 5800 phone (the first firmware version 11.something) though, mine didn't work really fluently. For example, when I press the button on the top of the screen, the bar just appears/disappears as opposed to nicely slides out/in as on my friend's phone. Same when closing/opening windows, mine just appears/disappears as opposed to the nice way it did on the other phone. This is of least of my concerns right now though.
2. Moreover, soon I found out how unstable the whole thing was. The phone kept freezing and crushing whenever I was using the internet or listening to music. I took special care not to install or copy any illegal stuff in it. The application folder took forever to load (all applications from Ovi store) and from time to time I got some really nasty crashes where the screen went black with some red line across it. This slowly led me to believe there was a virus in the phone. After downloading the anti-virus program no virus was detected, though................
When I select Messaging -> Settings -> Other -> Memory -> [select memory card E]then it is OK for email messages but when I receive an SMS it issues an error 'Cannot access memory' and then it switches back to phone memory C, stres the message there and then opens is.
This bug is still present in Firmware V4.0025. Is there a workaround for this? The reason is that 'Phone memory C' is still very precious as it is shared with the working memory (Symbian design flaw ?) so I do not use the C memory is possible.
after browsing in Opera Mini(5.2 beta), my 5800 froze and restarted. It no longer recognizes my memory card. On starting usb connection it tells me that i don't have a memory card in and PC-suite might not work as expected. I tried a soft-reset (*#7370#), but it still does not recognize the memory card. All applications saved on my memory card are no longer displayed. In file manager it tells me I have no memory card in. Of course I have ejected and inserted the memory card, but the initial problem started when my I was just browsing.
I have a prob with my one week old (!) 5800 phone. Its 8GB memory card became invisible (file browser says- E: NO MEMORY CARD INSERTED) while I was browsing internet (on the screen suddenly appeared 'it is advised to choose Remove memory card first in phone menu, and then remove it' or smth like that). Now no formatting capabilities in phone menu. I have tried another Memory Card 1GB, Nokia made, and it is invisible too. My old Nokia E51i file manager can read both cards. The phone is ONE WEEK from an authorised Nokia shop, no damages, no fall.
I've had one frustrating experience with my phone and it continues to annoy me. Since the past 6 months that i'm using my nokia 5800, one problem reoccurs frequently. Data on my memory card gets deleted by itself every now and then. I lose videos, music and images primarily every time.
The only option remaining then is to run a data recovery software on my memory card to restore to the lost data. This has happened 5 times in last 6 months and I have no clue why. I have seen many other complaining of the same problem in this forum but there's no solution. I hope to find on in this thread.
For your knowledge, i'm using 8gb micro sd that came with the phone and i'm already on FW ver 40.X which is the latest.List of Nokia phones I've used: 3310, 3315, 3200, 6600,3250, N73 ME, N95 8GB and 5800 XpressMusic (currently using this).
I have a very large contact list I want to import to my new express music 5800. I read the fine manual, but don't see how to switch the saving of contacts to the memory card so that I have more than the 40 MB currently available on the phone's memory.
Do I need to install a memory card to use OVI MAPS on Nokia 5230? I installed MAPS, and when starting the application on the phone, it does start and shows the GPS info, but on a blank screen, no maps.Anyone?
The thing is, i'm running out of memory in my 5800, i had 36 mb free in my phone and after updating to ovimaps 3.3 i have 30 mb, a there's still 15 mb to be updated, my question is, can i set the updates (im updating with the app. update)to be install in the memory card instead of the phone? V31.2.101
I have a virus on my memory card which has de-stabilised my phone, has it seems to be frezzing, shutting down and just mis behaving. the problem i have with re formatting the card is that it came with some system files. if i reformat through the phone , will it replace all the system files on the memeory card...
My xpressmusic 5800 has decided to stop reading my memory card. It is the original 8gb micro sd card from Nokia. I'm no longer able to use apps such as Ovi Maps and I don't have enough memory to update it.I haven't dropped the phone nor have I removed the memory card until after it stopped reading. What can I do? It has some stuff on there I would like to keep as I hadn't got round to uploading it so even if I had the option to would I be able to retrieve some data off it?
As you all Nokia 5800 XpressMusic gives only 81MB for its phone memory. Many of you have used the 'App. update' located in Application folder in Nokia 5800 main menu. On the first use of App. update you will find updates like
Adobe Flashlite 3.1Live TV 1.2Mail for Exchange 2.9Ovi Store 1.5Python for S60 2.0Scribble 0.2After installing all these updates, only 64 - 70 MB is left in my mobile this makes my mobile slow. While installing these updates i didnt got any pop-up to choose while installing these updates to Phone memory or Memory card i.e C dirve or E drive. can install all the above updates in Memory card that means i will get a pop-up like we get while installing 3rd party application.
After a year of purchase, i now decided to reset my nokia 5800. I backed up every contact and messages on to my Memory card and after the reset Memory card asks for a password...Guys please help and plz do't give sugessions to format memory card as i have all the USEFUL data on it..By the way i only connect mobile to PC via USB cable i don't have a seperate CARD reader.
I recently formatted my phone and memory card and lost the nokia maps data from the card. While updating with nokia suit it says "can't find maps on phone". What can I do for getting back the data?
After receiving my 5800 I had to restore factory settings and format the memory card to get rid of unwanted pre-installed content. Before that, I had no problems connecting the phone to the computer via USB and transferring media files, but now - Ovi player doesn't recognize it when I connect the phone and select PC suite modemedia transfer mode. Bluetooth works, mass storage mode via USB works. I am using Windows 7.Is there anything that I need to reinstall on the phone to get it to work? has anybody seen this problem?
