Nokia :: Formatting Memory Card On The 5800 Xpress Music
Mar 5, 2010
I have a virus on my memory card which has de-stabilised my phone, has it seems to be frezzing, shutting down and just mis behaving. the problem i have with re formatting the card is that it came with some system files. if i reformat through the phone , will it replace all the system files on the memeory card...
I recently purchased a Nokia 5310 Xpress Music about a week ago. It is a great phone, but the problem I am experiencing has to with the memory card. When I try to format it, I select "Options" while "Memory Card" is highlighted but I do not have the option of formatting it. Is there something wrong with my phone? Currently, my phone is V 06.68, which I am assuming is the latest version, since I have the Nokia Ovi Suite installed, and when I select "Update", it says I have the latest version.
I've recently had to reformat my memory card as the camera refused to work with the memory card inserted. I took off all pics, videos and music and saved them to the computer. However, when I've gone back to the Ovi store and into the "my stuff" tab, I cannot click the download button on many of the apps (mainly the ones that I actually use which makes it even more annoying). My husband has told me to go into "settings", then "application manager", then finally into "installed apps" and delete the files for the apps that I would like to reinstall (to reactivate the download button again). fantastic idea, but the file names don't give me any sort of clue as to what app they're for. I asked if it would be quicker and easier just to delete everything from the "installed apps" folder, at which point my husband nearly had a breakdown and told me not to do that as there were files in that folder that relate to firmware downloads and could cause more problems by deleting them.
My phone decided to break last night. Literally, one minute it worked and the next minute it didn't. I have lost all my photos and videos as well as all the songs I had stored on the memory card, which is leading me to believe that the problem is to do with the memory. The memory was nowhere near full capacity however.
When the phone broke, randomly (hadn't been dropped, wet or knocked!!) the phone froze, I had problems turning it on and off, it was very slow and unresponsive. It wouldn't recognise the keylock being used. At one stage it didn't recognise my Sim. Also when I looked to see what Applications are open, there is a 'contacts' symbol open but it is labeled as "PBK2serverApp" as opposed to "Contacts". When I select this, it just takes me to the home screen.....
I have upgraded the firmware from v31.0.101 to v50.0.005 and I had the unpleasent surprise to find that the music player is no longer working. It plays only the files stored in the phone memory and is unable to update the library. It shows music files on the memory card that were deleted longtime ago and refresh library does not change anything: always shows refresh complete 0 files added. When I connect the phone to the PC, the Ovi Player doesn't see the phone and even the device manager shows that there is a problem with the portable device (conneced in PC Suite or Media Transfer modes). Done even a hard reset but nothing has changed except that it has lost the applications it had in the phone memory.
i want to format phone memory as well as the memory card of N86 8MP.what all things will i lose after format.i got to know that N-gage will no longer exist after format.
I have a Nokia 3720 Classic which has a 1gb micro sd memory card which, as far as I can remember, has never been formated in this phone. When I tried to format the card the other day to increase the phone's memory I got the response "operation failed". I changed my service provider ( I live in France ) some time ago, and I wonder if that has something to do with it.
I just bought a new Nokia 5800 Xpress music, i updated it to V40 and just after that updated my ovi maps application, while transfering maps using maps uploader, nokia pc suite appears and i got a message "another accurance of maps is opened" i closed it.
Now everything works, nokia maps opens normally but when i do a zoom out it closes and i must reopen it, i downloaded the latest version as a sis file and installed it, i also installed added the maps again but i got the same result, i'm not able to use nokia maps at all.
I have had my Nokia 500 music Xpress for approx 8 mths now and i love it but about a month ago it turned itself off and i thought it was just a one off, it happened a few times, I would remove battery and sim and put them back in and turn phone back on. I will a get few days when i have no problems and then it will do it again sometimes 5 or 6 times a day.
Yesterday It happened and i really thought it was not going to come back on. Eventually got it back on but i havent a clue why it should keep doing this and don't have a clue what to do to rissolve it... is it the software/battery or the phone?
im trying to get in the IM chat for msn, but when i touch to run IM, it just load a bit and then it does nothing, it doesn't even get to the menu or some kind of loading bar, just like the application doesnt works, i even tried to put back to store settings, deleting everything i got, and still nothing
Issue #1: I deleted all of my music on my 5800 and reloaded all new music (about 2 gigs worth), I restarted the phone and then refreshed my library. It added my new music but it did not delete the old music. How can I delete these old files from my library.
Issue #2: Every time I connect my phone in Mass Storage mode and sometimes in PC Suite mode, the Messenger says that it is Unable to Read the memory card and switches my text message saves to the C:, I then have to go back and change my message save location back to E: manually. Is there a way to stop the phone from doing this.
Issue #3: After upgrading my 5800 to v40 my left headphone plays louder than my right. I have tried different headphones and different songs and they all played the same. I am push the plug all the way in. It was working just fine before the upgrade. Is anyone else having this same issue?
These attention to detail issues get annoying when they pop up, Nokia (or Symbian) really needs to fix these issues. Some of these issue carry over from update to update and thats not good business. I would like to stay away from resetting my phone if at all possible...I have done so many resets, I have lost count and quite frankly my phone is setup the way I wont it and do not want to sit and set it up again.
this is my first Nokia having converted from Motorola and I was wandering if it's possible to edit my imported tunes to create a ringtone from just parts of a track such as the intro etc; I cannot find anything in the instructions what so ever on how to do this, as it's possible with Motorola i'm sure it must be with Nokia ?
i bought a Nokia 5800 xm last may. wanna know is it supports TV out? but there is no TV cable included. they said it may supported. but the box doesn't have the sticker about the TV Out components being removed, the handset hasn't been affected. so shall i connect it? if it not supported what will happen?
Recently got a new 5800 xpress music and have entered all contacts into mobile. When contacts are calling me it is not displaying their number just saying call calling. Having noticed some people have been having same problems,I have checked that I do not have any duplicate numbers stored, and have also tried saving only to sim or only to phone but neither are allowing the number to be displayed. I run my own business so this is getting annoying as if I miss a call I don't have a clue who it is and can not return any calls!! Can anybody help!
I have Nokia 5800 and can't update the firmware, i tried using both NSU (latest version) and Ovi Suite (Latest version) on a Windows XP SP· OS, the problem seems to be that the OS don't recognize the phone when the phone shuts off in te middle of the update process, a bubble shows "new hardware found" an then "problem occurred trying to instal new hardware", it seems to be a driver issue but i have the latest installed and.
Not always but sometimes when people calls me my phone would shutdown or restart, just some times .What may be wrong ?Can someone help or just give me a solution.
My Nokia 5800 memory card sometimes goes rogue and i cant access my music player and says my files are corrupted. The problem is i can view my images and i can access the music via file manager.
I have a Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and am currently using the Contacts Bar Home Screen Theme, which I find very useful.
However, I would also like to have my calendar visible on the home screen, as is possible on the Shortcuts Bar Theme. Unfortunately, I can't seem to find a way to have both the Contacts Bar and the Calendar visible on the Home Screen.
I have a Nokia 5800 xpressmusic mobile and its about 7 months old , I charge up the phone and the batery lasts between 6-8 hours with very little use ? the phone is just draining the power from the batery . At first I thought batery dyeing so I put another one in , charged it up and the same happened again,About a 2 weeks ago it did get wet fell in the sink and I dried it out and waited a few days befor I switched it on and it worked perfect no problems until a couple of days ago. I can put batery in and charge it switch phone on with no problems , I even took the batery out to see if the batery was dyeing on its own with no problems put it in my friends phone and it lasted as it should , so is this a software problem in the phone or is it earthing or something to cause a drain?
Some time ago I changed the place where my SMS were stored from the phone memory to the memory card, and for some time everything worked smoothly. Now, suddenly, some of my messages have disappeared and the default memory location has become the phone again. Now, if I try to select memory card from the messages settings, the application crashes and I'm sent back to the home screen.
Just got a new 5800 XpressMusic, and it works wonderfully, except for one problem - there's no form of alert for text messages, giving me no way to tell if I've received a message apart from actually going into my inbox and looking. I have a message tone and vibration set and still there's no notification, not even an icon at the top of the screen.
My 5800's music library is not working anymore and it cant play mp3 and other sound files but when I remove the memory card it can play the sounds also my picture editor is not working. In my memory card I found many folders namely _PAlbTN. is it a virus? Do I need to reformat my memory card? And what do I have to copy on my PC when I format it? Just the mp3 videos and pictures? Or do I have to copy also the folders like private, sys, etc?
Since Ovi updated the maps I've had trouble using it. I have version 40 firmware which was installed by Vodafone when my device expired. Despite the update, Ovi maps just crashes the phone when I try to use it. The screen goes blank and I get all coloured lines flashing down one side and the phone reluctantly restarts.
I've just recently used the Voice recorder on my 5800 XpressMusic (FW 31.0.101) phone & I've notice something weird. If you select Options > Settings > Choose memory location > recording Quality > High Then record something, then select 'Options' > 'Go To Gallery'
No mp4 files (the format 'high' is recorded in) are shown. Yet it's fine if you set Recording quality to 'Standard' (WAV) or ' MMS compatible' (AMR).
I have had the Nokia XpressMusic for almost a year now. I have been experiencing several problemswith it recently; the first problem shown was that it would call my contactswithout my intention to do so and also without me touching the phone. Often it will send a text half way through me typing it and recentlyit has been switching off by itself.
I have also been experiencing the fuzzy screen due to the coldand this morning the phone's touch screen buttons would not respond however thetoolbar with the music, gallery, connectivity etc... on the right hand side of thescreen would pull down instead. The phone has been dropped a few times, however I do not thinkthis contributes to the faults. Could the phone be repaired as it is still underwarranty or will they not accept it?
I updated my phone firmware from v40 to v50 over the air. The download package was around 9MB in size. After the upgrade, I realised that my phone did not have all the features of v50 firmware update. For example, features like "Quick Office v4.2 integrated", "Rihanna service launcher in web browser" are missing. Then I decided to reinstall the v50 update through my laptop. So when I connected my phone with my laptop and opened the "Nokia Software Updater" it said that the update package is around 138MB. Now I face a problem. After clicking on Re-Install option in "Nokia Software Updater" the download does not stop at 138MB. Infact it does not stop at all. It goes on like 2MB of 138MB.. 4MB of 138MB.. 60MB of 138MB.. and then 200MB of 200MB... 300MB of 300MB and so on. I decided at that time to wait for some time. But it reached 350 MB and still it did not stop.
So any idea if this is expected behavior or is there a problem with my phone or the "Nokia Software Updater" software. Please note that I have the latest version of "Nokia Software Updater" installed on my laptop. Fortunately, I don't have any serious problems with my phone except that when I click on "applications" icon, it takes some time to respond.
