That being the case, I downloaded the map files for Alberta onto my 5800XM and checked that Banff and Calgary map info was present.No problem with Banff road details and POI's but although the name 'Calgary' is shown on the map, the main roads stop short of the city and absolutely no roads are shown going into the city and no POI's are pesent for Calgary.

I will be going on vacation in Canada and I want to be able to take my iPhine 4S with me and change out my China Mobile MicroSIM card for a Canadian carriers MicroSIM card (Rogers Wireless, Fido Solutions, Bell Mobility, Telus Mobility, ???). It would also be nice if the 3G (or 2.5G GPRS/EDGE) works. What about my iPhone 4S WiFi ??

I have had two 5230s for various reasons on two different networks. On my current one (t-mobile, uk) I seem to be missing the shortcut to the GPS data application. I've only just noticed this as I had issues with my GPS when abroad and I wanted to check which satellites were or weren't being seen.
I discovered that the application is in fact installed as if I go into the voice commands I can say "GPS data" and the application is displayed. But I seem to have no way to start the app without using the voice command. I know I could try a hard or soft reset, but I'd like to avoid that option at the moment, and it may not even work. Any way to get the "shortcut" re-applied?
After recent update of ovi maps on my mobile a strange problem occurs: when I choose one of my favourite destinations the following error appears: 'no route found'. It's possible to complete in online mode missing information, but found errors in France, Germany, Czech ( between Prague and Olomouc). Also my country Estonia is missing much detailed area data. View 3 Replies View RelatedNokia,been using Maps on a Lumia 820 for two weeks now, and while the touch interface is of course a huge step forward from my previous E52, there are several (I believe essential) features that are strangely and desperately missing:The basic map view is fixed to "north up" and doesn't show any indicator of the direction the device is pointing to. The E52 had both a compass indicator and an option to rotate the map according to the device's orientation. I find map orientation essential in "pedestrian mode", especially when you're in an unknown place. While we're at map indicators: when zooming, either with the pinch and zoom gestures or with the optional +/- buttons, the map does not show a scale or ruler which the E52 also did.Both offline maps and microSD card support are unique characteristics of Nokia Maps and the Lumia 820. However, storing downloaded maps (probably the biggest data chunks on your phone) on the microSD card is not supported. You really have to the store your offline maps the phone's internal memory?When you open your list of placemarks (or favourites), that list is sorted alphabetically. With more than a few placemarks (I have well over 500, collected over many years) that's almost useless, because you see named locations scattered all over the world when you're really looking for the name of that restaurant you visited somewhere nearby some time ago. On the E52 the favorites list was of course sorted by the distance from the currently displayed map area (or the current location), which is so much more useful.

When I go into GPS it does show the very general map of the area (major highways only), but if I do a zoom no street view, nothing...and it definitely won't search for anything (streets or driving direction). I have turned on A_GPS but it does not seem to help. I am wondering if it's because I am in North America and this phone is still not widely in use yet? I also have a incoming SMS time problem.

I grabbed the update this morning and the missing contacts bug is still there in Google Navigation. When you select Contacts in Navigation you get "You don't have any contacts with addresses". This was all over the threads, you would think this would have been fixed with this update. Grrr...

I am very interested in the DroidX, but the virtual keyboard does not have any means to move the cursor- so if you mis-type a character, you have to either perfectly position your finger & delete the wrong letter & re-type, or delete the whole word & re-type. Am a complete newby to this. Have been reading forums for two evenings, and need some clarity Re. GPS. Am going to buy a iphone 3GS 16G soon, and it will have 3.1.3 firmware. Have never had any of the Tomtom type GPS devices, or an iphone, before. I need the GPS thing for my new job--lots of traveling around town, looking for residential addresses.
I have noticed this sort of thing on some friends phones. You enter the address into the phone, and then it verbally and visually gives you instructions on how to get to the location. A few questions:
1. Is this an "app" that you buy once, or do you subscribe to it monthly, or what ?
2. Will it still work on a jailbreak 3GS, 3.1.3?
3. Is there any additional esoteric knowledge or info I should seek about this GPS function ?
I had a problem with capacity on my Outlook program (because I had imported an old .pst version of data files when installing Outlook 2010 on my new PC). This meant I have had to change the directory name and location for Outlook on my PC. The capacity has increased from 2 Gb to 6GB. I have imported all my old Outlook data into that new file and everything works just fine on the PC.
However, the unintended consequence is that I cannot now synchronise my device data with my PC data. When trying to do a simple Sync I get the message 'One or more configured folders is not available. Update folder mapping and try again.'
That all makes sense but when I bring up the relevant Organiser section of the BB software, the Map Folder button is not highlighted and there is nothing in the Map Folder box. I then get a message that says 'No folder mapping is available for calendar section.'
How can I recreate the link between the newly located and renamed .pst file and the device?
I have just purchased an I phone and am dissapointed to find that SIRI cannot use the map function in the UK, I notice that in all of the glossy advertising Apple do they do not hghlight this lack of UK functionality, surely that is not being transparent! they should make this fact known but why would they as people would just buy their competitions phones which are equally as good if not better - not expecting a response from Apple!

View 8 Replies View RelatedIt seems like many times when I plug my phone into a USB cable attached to my laptop (which is my normal method for charging it), charge the phone, and then detach the phone from the cable, I have to go back through and reassign personal tones for SMS messages and email accounts. Every sound has defaulted back to my default phone ringtone, and when I go back into my sound settings, my default notification says "unknown notification". If I tap on it to hear what sound it is, it plays my default ringtone. I monitor 8 email accounts and assign different notification sounds for each one. I also have personal SMS sounds for any texts from my wife or ESPN. It's annoying when I disconnect my USB cable to have to go back through everything and reassign these different tones.
Just some notes: ***This problem only seems to happen when I leave the phone connected to the USB cable for an extended period of time (such as overnight) or when I have copied some files from my laptop to my phone's SD card***All of my sounds are stored on my SD card. This problem acts as if the phone loses any mappings to files on the SD card if it is connected as a mass storage device for an extended period of time***I use the built-in email program for monitoring all my email accounts***My default USB computer connection is selected as Mass Storage since MotoCast and ZumoCast are not supported by the Electrify 2
I have downloaded the "Own Voice" guidance for navigation but seem to have lost my setting it up. how to set up my own voice? By that I mean, to record my own voice? All I can do as of now is choose "Own Voice" in the Settings -> Walk/Drive -> Voice Guidance. But where to RECORD my own voice?

Maps 3.08 does not let me calibrate my compass (at least not by ticking once or twice at the compass). By consequence, while navigating it does not orientate the display with the top in the forward direction. I found a workaround by using a separate compass application, calibrate the compass there, and then Maps works perfect. There must be a easier way to calibrate the compass from within the Maps application.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to synchronize my laptop calendar with my BB calendar through Microsoft Outlook with no success. When I use the BB Desktop Software for the Curve 8530, I did the following:
I connected the laptop to the BB with a USB cable. I invoked the BB Desktop Software and connected with the BB. I viewed the conflict resolution dialogue box and updated both fields in the device and Microsoft Outlook with highlighted values.
I received error message "Error encountered. Error code - 0x80040fb3. Check documentation." I pressed "OK". I received the message "Unable to complete synchronization". I pressed "OK". Then I hit the "Synch" button on the dialogue box. The message "one or more configured folders is not available. Update folder mapping and try again."
Then I clicked on "organizer" button in the dialogue box. I clicked on "configure settings". I clicked "advanced" after seeing that the "calendar" and "address" book were checked. The error message "no available message stores" was displayed. I clicked "OK". The "Advanced" menu appeared, however the "map folder" button was not highlighted and the message "no folder mapping is available for calendar section".
My e-mail is being synchronized from Hotmail through to Outlook. I can see my Hotmail e-mail in Outlook.My calendar is being synchronized from Hotmail through to Outlook. I can see my Hotmail calendar in Outlook. My address books are not being synchronized. My calendars are not being synchronized.
Navigation used to work fine on my X6, but since having to do a hard reset of the phone (due to other problems!) I cannot use the Navigation.
Everytime I get the error 'navigation cannot start at this location' and it doesn't seem like the phone can ever pick up my location.I have tried un-installing and re-installing the application but to no-avail!I haven't even wasted my time calling Nokia Support, as they are totally useless!
getting very frustrated with this now. I have given my dad my N95 to help him get around but just cant get the map navigation to work.
