I just purchased a BlackBerry Torch 9800 just two days ago and as it is my first BlackBerry I am not familiar with best use of the phone in general.
My questions are:
new BlackBerry user that can make the device useful? Is there a good GPS mapping software for general road directions world wide?
As an avid business crackberry fan (and business manager) for over 3 years, I was appalled to find that I would need to slide the keyboard out to enter my security code, especially when I would do it 50-100 times per day. As every other touchscreen phone on the market has a pattern unlock method, this is the single issue preventing from purchasing this phone(s) PLEASE ISSUE AN UPDATE/APP/PATCH anything to bring this vital security & efficiency issue up to par.

I am thinking the safest way to not have a problem is the just restore my 9800 data from a back up rather than do the Switch Device thing. Anyone worried it might bring erroneous crap into the new 6.0 OS.
Maybe it would be better to redo my settings after the data install to make sure all is clean and working correctly. Some of the 5.0 setting would not be applicable to the new 6.0 software.
Title speaks for its self. They just posted on there wall they will be offering it. No details as to when/price.

Can you use a jailbreak 3GS 3.1.3 as a GPS mapping device, ie. TomTom ?
Am a complete newby to this. Have been reading forums for two evenings, and need some clarity Re. GPS. Am going to buy a iphone 3GS 16G soon, and it will have 3.1.3 firmware. Have never had any of the Tomtom type GPS devices, or an iphone, before. I need the GPS thing for my new job--lots of traveling around town, looking for residential addresses.
I have noticed this sort of thing on some friends phones. You enter the address into the phone, and then it verbally and visually gives you instructions on how to get to the location. A few questions:
1. Is this an "app" that you buy once, or do you subscribe to it monthly, or what ?
2. Will it still work on a jailbreak 3GS, 3.1.3?
3. Is there any additional esoteric knowledge or info I should seek about this GPS function ?
I had a problem with capacity on my Outlook program (because I had imported an old .pst version of data files when installing Outlook 2010 on my new PC). This meant I have had to change the directory name and location for Outlook on my PC. The capacity has increased from 2 Gb to 6GB. I have imported all my old Outlook data into that new file and everything works just fine on the PC.
However, the unintended consequence is that I cannot now synchronise my device data with my PC data. When trying to do a simple Sync I get the message 'One or more configured folders is not available. Update folder mapping and try again.'
That all makes sense but when I bring up the relevant Organiser section of the BB software, the Map Folder button is not highlighted and there is nothing in the Map Folder box. I then get a message that says 'No folder mapping is available for calendar section.'
How can I recreate the link between the newly located and renamed .pst file and the device?
I have just purchased an I phone and am dissapointed to find that SIRI cannot use the map function in the UK, I notice that in all of the glossy advertising Apple do they do not hghlight this lack of UK functionality, surely that is not being transparent! they should make this fact known but why would they as people would just buy their competitions phones which are equally as good if not better - not expecting a response from Apple!

View 8 Replies View RelatedThat being the case, I downloaded the map files for Alberta onto my 5800XM and checked that Banff and Calgary map info was present.No problem with Banff road details and POI's but although the name 'Calgary' is shown on the map, the main roads stop short of the city and absolutely no roads are shown going into the city and no POI's are pesent for Calgary.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt seems like many times when I plug my phone into a USB cable attached to my laptop (which is my normal method for charging it), charge the phone, and then detach the phone from the cable, I have to go back through and reassign personal tones for SMS messages and email accounts. Every sound has defaulted back to my default phone ringtone, and when I go back into my sound settings, my default notification says "unknown notification". If I tap on it to hear what sound it is, it plays my default ringtone. I monitor 8 email accounts and assign different notification sounds for each one. I also have personal SMS sounds for any texts from my wife or ESPN. It's annoying when I disconnect my USB cable to have to go back through everything and reassign these different tones.
Just some notes: ***This problem only seems to happen when I leave the phone connected to the USB cable for an extended period of time (such as overnight) or when I have copied some files from my laptop to my phone's SD card***All of my sounds are stored on my SD card. I am trying to synchronize my laptop calendar with my BB calendar through Microsoft Outlook with no success. When I use the BB Desktop Software for the Curve 8530, I did the following:
I connected the laptop to the BB with a USB cable. I invoked the BB Desktop Software and connected with the BB. I viewed the conflict resolution dialogue box and updated both fields in the device and Microsoft Outlook with highlighted values.
I received error message "Error encountered. Error code - 0x80040fb3. Check documentation." I pressed "OK". I received the message "Unable to complete synchronization". I pressed "OK". Then I hit the "Synch" button on the dialogue box. The message "one or more configured folders is not available. Update folder mapping and try again."
Then I clicked on "organizer" button in the dialogue box. I clicked on "configure settings". I clicked "advanced" after seeing that the "calendar" and "address" book were checked. The error message "no available message stores" was displayed. I clicked "OK". The "Advanced" menu appeared, however the "map folder" button was not highlighted and the message "no folder mapping is available for calendar section".
My e-mail is being synchronized from Hotmail through to Outlook. I can see my Hotmail e-mail in Outlook.My calendar is being synchronized from Hotmail through to Outlook. I can see my Hotmail calendar in Outlook. My address books are not being synchronized. My calendars are not being synchronized.
I know they are iPhone lovers, maybe Steve is paying them to leave it there since they dis the Torch so much.

My school e-mail is weird because when I go inside everything looks exactly like gmail but it isn't exactly gmail beacuse you can't sign on from www.gmail.com. Gotta go through the school website. Sometimes you can see them in the preview area but when you click on them you get a weird icon that looks like a wheel. Sometimes even in the preview area you cannot see the pic at all.Still on the official OS that came with the phone. Does anyone know what the problem is? I recently swapped out to a larger memory card but I had the problem on both cards.

As you already know, the ring volume on the Torch 9800 is extremely low. So I tried to email custom mp3 ringtones to my phone to use instead. In attempting to do so, I received a message saying "More request cannot be completed. Service book information not found." I also received this message when trying to email a photo to my blackberry. This never use to happen in past blackberries I have owned.
How do I fix this "service book information not found" issue ?
I have bought a Torch, but cannot get it to set up in the Organizer configuration to sync with my Calendar in MS Office XP- Outlook. My computer runs Windows XP. The contacts and memo will configure (although) they are posting to an archive folder and when I try to change that I get Error 0x80043bea), but the Calendar and Tasks will go through the set-up process, but when you finish it, the checkmark on those 2 Outlook folder disappears before you can even select the advance settings.I have re-set the configuration on the Desktop software a couple of times, to no avail, and uninstalled the Desktop 6.0 software and reinstalled it. None of these measures have changed the problem.Any suggestions?

The phone wil enter bedside mode and i get a message stating that the phone will not charge. I am able to charge the phone without the dock using the exact same cable. The retailer isnt willing to assist in this matter as they say it is something I need to take up with the manufacture.whats wrong or how to make the phone charge?

The question is I live outside US and I need to get it unlocked.Now, I saw that at at&t store, they are selling the torch for 499 dollars without contract. I am sure this is locked.If I can get this phone (I know I need to get someone with at&t to go with me to buy it), I can unlock it. This is for sure, right?
I see that some sites are selling it for 599 and 699 dollars but I dont want to pay the extra amount if I can get it unlocked.
So after using my Torch for a week or so, I'm starting to really miss my Bold 9700.Is it possible for me to simply put my ATT sim card from my Torch in my Bold 9700 and use the Bold seamlessly? My Bold is unlocked, but I'm worried about email settings/BBM working properly if I switch my sim card out of the Torch.
When I booted up my Bold with my Torch sim card 5 minutes ago I got a txt message saying erroneous number or something to that degree, and BBM attempted to setup a new profile.Do I need to use the device switch wizard?
