Nokia Navigation :: Maps On A Lumia 820: Essential Features Missing
Dec 1, 2012
Nokia, been using Maps on a Lumia 820 for two weeks now, and while the touch interface is of course a huge step forward from my previous E52, there are several (I believe essential) features that are strangely and desperately missing:The basic map view is fixed to "north up" and doesn't show any indicator of the direction the device is pointing to. The E52 had both a compass indicator and an option to rotate the map according to the device's orientation. I find map orientation essential in "pedestrian mode", especially when you're in an unknown place. While we're at map indicators: when zooming, either with the pinch and zoom gestures or with the optional +/- buttons, the map does not show a scale or ruler which the E52 also did. Both offline maps and microSD card support are unique characteristics of Nokia Maps and the Lumia 820. However, storing downloaded maps (probably the biggest data chunks on your phone) on the microSD card is not supported. You really have to the store your offline maps the phone's internal memory? When you open your list of placemarks (or favourites), that list is sorted alphabetically. With more than a few placemarks (I have well over 500, collected over many years) that's almost useless, because you see named locations scattered all over the world when you're really looking for the name of that restaurant you visited somewhere nearby some time ago. On the E52 the favorites list was of course sorted by the distance from the currently displayed map area (or the current location), which is so much more useful.
After recent update of ovi maps on my mobile a strange problem occurs: when I choose one of my favourite destinations the following error appears: 'no route found'. I manually checked the map and found that huge parts of the route are really missing - mostly big parts of south of Bulgaria, including entire map of Plovdiv city, which is the second biggest city in the country.Missing routes on ovi maps
I currently own a Nokia C7 and recently upgraded to Belle (which is fantastic) and as such Nokia Maps 3.08 was also installed. The map upgrade did not come with any homescreen widgets, and I have seen videos/screenshots of phones with a 'my position' type map widget (which fills half a homescreen) and a 'weather' widget (a bar type widget which when clicked is cleary the nokia maps weather app).how to get hold of them as I cannot find them on the Nokia store?
Found a lot missing information on N9 maps. There is no way to download broken map again. It's possible to complete in online mode missing information, but found errors in France, Germany, Czech ( between Prague and Olomouc). Also my country Estonia is missing much detailed area data. Is it only N9 problem or are getting maps updated soon?
I am trying to sync. favorites I create on maps.nokia.com with Nokia Maps 2.5.29.357 on my Lumia 900 (WP 7.5), but they will not transfer from the web interface to the phone. Favorites I create on the phone transfer just fine to my account on maps.nokia.com. Is there a way to "push" favorites to the phone from the web interface?
There should be a dialog or other view to show the current location as coordinates in Nokia Maps. This kind of information can be needed in some cases and currently there is no support to get the coordinates.
On my new Lumia 920, Nokia maps is not showing traffic info for me. I have already updated to 3.0, but when I set the map view to traffic info, nothing happens.
WIth the builtin Bing maps however (which is not directly accessible, but for example when clicking on a contact's address), traffic info works just fine. I'm in Germany, so it's not about the coverage.
Nokia has me back as a loyal customer again after my debacle with the Nokia N97. I noticed three things that I thought are fairly critical, that are missing, all related to the phone part of the N900.
1) In my E61 and the N97, one could while in a call, choose a contact from the contact list and send number as DTMF, this feature is particularly useful when using calling cards, which I do 2) From the call log of both the E61 and N97 you could choose an entry and edit the number before calling, helpful sometimes when roaming and the incoming number comes with an odd prefix because of odd carrier routing of the call 3) In Contacts, is there no field for Middle Name?
I have tried a fair bit of searching on this and other sites, oddly couldn't find anything on these, any one have any thoughts?
Currently own an N96, and I was thinking about getting an N900, but I've been hearing a lot about incomplete software and missing features? I know that MMS is not supported by default in the N900 (you have to download third party software), but also there is no GPS/map software? Also I heard that you cannot video call?
Could someone be kind enough to list the features that I will be used to as an N96 owner, that aren't available in the N900 "out of the box". I know it's possible to download new programs and stuff, but I'd like the core functionality to be Nokia's own software just so it's consistent in design and quality.
Nokia 808 Belle FP2's gallery is still crippled. There is no way to organize photos into folders or tag them in any useful manner. And there no possibility to select multiple items for sharing etc. Gallery cannot zoom images that are downloaded to the phone from other sources no matter how big these images are.
None of these limitations were present in Symbian Anna, so this is a major drawback and downgrade in terms of features even this 808 shoud be Nokias's current flag ship phone on photography domain.
I am writing to express my disappointment with the Nokia product I purchased recently.
I bought an E66 handset from Carrefour in Shanghai last month, thinking that it would have full features.
With the Nokia site for China not having any information available in English, I used the Nokia site from Oman (where I am currently living) to research the specifications.
It was not until I returned to Oman that I realized that the E66 sold in China and the E66 sold elsewhere was not actually the same phone.
The phone that I bought is missing key features that persuaded me to buy it in the first place. It is missing:
Front camera. 3G capabilities. WiFi connectivity. Lifetime navigation with OviMaps. Plus a range of other features that I was looking for.
This is marketed as a business phone, yet is missing the features I need to properly conduct business.
I do not understand why a global brand such as Nokia would ensure that the E66 model would have the same features universally.
I am thoroughly upset and disappointed at Nokia; having been a Nokia user for more than 12 years I have been let down by the brand that I have remained loyal to. Essentially, I was misled into buying a very bad phone.
Is there any way that you can explain the reasons behind the difference in the Chinese and Global E66 and/or equip me with an E66 that has the features I am looking for?
I have a N85 Navi which I bought less than a year ago. I updated this week the maps and the application (latest version)and added one voice for the navigation. After this update when I open the Maps and select Settings and Navigation (to change i.e. voice), Maps closes automatically without any error messages. I can open all the other settings sub-menus. Any ideas why this is happening? Do I have the to re-install the application, maps and voices?
i have maps 3.04v? i used Nokia Suite to transfer maps of Bosnia and Hercegovina, Croatia and Serbia. Nokia Suite also transferred Europe base map. But i think i can only view base map of Europe. I cant view detiled maps of cityies.
I my dad recently bought the Nokia N8 after playing about with mine, I recieved the phone unlocked and set about setting it up for him, though i'm having foul problems with the maps! i've installed them, re-installed them, uninstalled and then reinstalled again and no luck, there wasn't even a Maps icon any time it was installed, but on my Nokia N8 when it was installed if went straight onto my home screen? how can I finally download these maps to this phone for my dad? he's starting to become really impatient because he needs to use the maps for his job
I installed Nokia Navigation 2.0 with some maps on my Lumia phone. But how can I find out the version of the installed maps? And how can I check the actual existing version of the maps on the Nokia server?
Nokia maps erases the maps on every second startup. The situation is the following:I run Nokia maps, it erases the mapsI connect the phone to the pc; nokia suite says he has to update the maps on my phone, I say okafter the update, there are no maps on the phone, so I chose one or two and install itdisconnect from the pc, run Nokia Maps, there are the mapsI quit from Maps and start it again, it wants to erase my maps againand there is no choice for either I let it to erase it, or it quitsAnyone?
When I bought nokia e72, I have reveived lot's of maps (almost 4GB). I want to free-up my memory card by removing some of maps. I try to do it in ovi application, but there is not possibility to do that. I can see all maps that are in my phone, but how to remove some of them?
I recently bought a nokia E7 (Blue) US Version but I am using it in Canada. I updated it to Symbian Anna and so on. Everytime I try to add new maps from the cell phone itself it says (downloading list, please wait) this takes FOREVER, then i try to do it by nokia ovi suite, well that is even worse, sometimes it says THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH CONNECTING THE ONLINE MAPS, sometimes it says some crazy errors (COULDNT CONNECT TO THE SERVICE, ETCC). I deleted the E:/cities folder + QF file, I opened the Ovi map apps and they got restored and so on but still nothing happens. Is there any other way to add some map I mean MANUALLY? I need the USA and Canada map, (voice guidande male us), I read some discussion from Ovikudy on how to do it manually but i need theses files.
BTW, I regret buying this Nokia E7 big time I should have listened to my friends and go to ANDROID. I know nokia is killing symbian but please fix those MAP serverS.
On my Lumia 1520 (32GB version) I use a 64GB External SD Card for storage of downloaded apps, music, photo's and movies. Recently I downloaded and installed the programms and all the maps for Nokia Here Drive (complete maps of Europe) and CoPilot GSP (with all Europe Maps). I hoped the maps where stored on the SD Card automatically but they are not. I now 'only' have, next to all installed apps, like 2,06GB internal storage space left. I know this could be enough but nonetheless I'm wondering if it is possible to store the maps of both applications on the external SD card rather than on phone storage and if the programms will still work correctly afterwards. On android devices i'm used to that it works like that. The navigation programm is installed on phone memory and the maps are simply stored on the external sd card.
I've been trying to use the GPS navigation through NOKIA MAPS but it doesn't work, in my phone's screen appears "the license has expired" or something like that. I'd like to know what i've to do to make it work. Because Iv'e heard that tthe GPS navigation in other nokia models is free.
Since the update, my phone no longer go into landscape. When I text, I usually flip landscape to do it. Now I cannot. Portrait Only. When I snap pictures, I always flip into landscape mode to view them.IT STINKS looking at the pictures in portrait mode. Two large black borders on top and bottom. I also discovered since the update, my phone can't read bar codes. My 920 is crippled but the update was supposed to make things better but it didn't and I'm sure there isn't much I can do about it but be annoyed for the next 2 years.
How to do navigation on nokia maps of E63 without GPS(as it does not have inbuilt); just like google maps uses GSM network for navigation and positioning.Any thing impossible?
I have noticed that Nokia 3.08 has now been promoted from the beta labs but although I have 3.08 11wk34 b01 installed? When I go to Nokia store, it confirms that Nokia Maps is not available for the C7-00?I have managed to locate the installer "nokia_maps_3_377815.08_11wk45_b05_SR1.0.sis" but when I try and install this over the beta version it just errors.
I just got the Nokia C3-00, and have successfully installed everything I want on Ovi apart from the maps feature. On my old Sony Ericsson google maps was pre-installed, but nothing like this on the C3, I am happy with the phone so far but curious as to why maps seems to be available for every other Nokia except the C3? Not listed in the drop down box when trying to choose handset model and download. It's a relatively new model(April 2010 release date I think?)so it's not like it can't support the software.
I downloaded a map of my country using the nokia pc suite and the suite installed it n my phone. But how do I access the map. I am not able to figure it out using the maps app in my e72. How do I access that map?
'm using c2-03 from india... i want the map of my city.. but i dont want to use internet frm the networks.. however i am ready to download any amount of data from my comp and then send it to my mobile... i guess there is no gps.. is there any way i can preload my city map into the mobile and use it?
I am a proud owner of a Nokia 5800 and I am trying to understand the way navigation works. Ik have a question about using Nokia Maps. The question is about the costs. I can find 4 options of positioning:
- Assisted GPS - Integrated GPS - Bluetooth GPS - based on network I don't use Bluetooth GPS. I have checked Integrated GPS. Because I do not have a data subscription I would like my navigation to be completely free. I know that Assisted GPS does uses data. What I am not able to find on the internet is whether the option "based on network" is free of charges or not.
I was really disapointed that E90 wasn't on supported models list. When this free feature will be available also for Nokia e90 communicator? Or will it be ever?
I have the current map version 0.1.23.112 on my device this was updated via Ovi Maps and i downloaded for my Country ie UK.
Now my issue it seems i have the latest maps but every time i put it in Drive mode to Navigate i get a message after a minute telling me need to connect to shop via online, here i get options to purchase for 1 day,10 day,30 day etc.
Assuming I have the latest Maps and according to my Map updater i do than why do i still need to purchase anything i thought the maps were now free?
This has baffled me for a while now and so far i have not been able to use the Navigation system, help would be appreciated.
Also i would like someone to advice me the correct settings i need to have in my Device so that it only uses the GPS to connect to and therefore a free service.
