total smartphone newbie here, seriously considering the 1020 but had a quick question. If I want to use my wifi instead of cell data, is this the correct setting?
Defining Internet Connections:
On the Start screen, swipe left Tap "Settings" Go to "Wi-Fi" Make sure that "Wi-Fi networking" is enabled Select the connection that you wish to use
To use a mobile data connection:
On the Start screen, swipe left and go to "Settings" Tap "cellular" Switch "Data connection" to "On"
So my Nokia Lumia 1020 was upgraded to 8.1 via Preview for Developers a few months ago and Wi-Fi/Cellular data was fine. I updated to Lumia Denim at one time and for some reason, Wi-Fi did not work. I tried using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool 2.1.1 and Wi-Fi still did not work. Then I downgraded from Denim to Cyan, and Wi-Fi still didn't work. I tried the Windows Phone Recovery Tool (same version) again, and Wi-Fi did not work.
In addition, I tried adding my Wi-Fi as a hidden network. Still didn't work. By the way, my Wi-Fi is WPA2-PSK, and I have AES encryption.
So here are some specs of my Lumia 1020:
OS version: 8.10.14226.359 Firmware revision number: 3051.50009.1451.1001 Model: NOKIA 909 Carrier: AT&T Software: Windows Phone 8.1 Update
I want to get either the 1020 or the 1520 but they are at&t exclusives. Can I get a lumia 1020 or 1520 without a plan and use it WiFi only like an iPod touch. Is a sim required during the start up process? If a sim is not required, will I be able to use all the preloaded apps and get updates even if it is not activated with a wireless network?
My new Lumia 1020 was connected to wifi when I began setting it up. I got a data usage warning message the next day, so I made sure it was still connected to wifi - then I got another warning message advising me more charges were being applied to the data plan. I called ATT and explained and was told that the 4GLTE runs all kinds of stuff in the background that uses data and to turn the data off. I did - since then, no more data usage - however - it will not stay connected to wifi after a time out unless it is plugged in. It still shows that its connected to wifi but its not.
I am using Nokia Lumia 1020. It has been having a trouble auto connecting Flight Mode. I can not use my mobile as a result of that. It connecting automatically WIFI connection as well. I can not off both Flight Mode and WIFI manually as they connecting automatically.
I really like the Lumia, but I am really disappointed that I have been unable to print to my wifi printers at home. For the time being I am emailing my things to print to my iPad and then printing from it. Any way to actually print from the phone to a wifi printer directly?
Starting just in recent days, whenever I try to connect to a WiFi network I get the message "Can't Connect. The WiFi network <network name> didn't respond. Try again later."
Other devices, including other Windows Phones, are connecting to these networks no problems.
I have a black lumia 1020. During the initial set up after I press 'next' from the welcome screen I am afterwards asked to sign into my MS account. It does not ask me to first connect to a wifi network. Due to this I can't sync all my backed up information. I know with my lumia 920, out of the box with no sim card inside I was asked to connect to wifi before being asked for a MS account. Is this an issue with the lumia 1020, not being able to sync with a back up file?
Lumia Black seems to be availible for me, but it wont download because it realy realy wants to have a Wi-Fi connection. I dont have one in my house, and public wi-fi's are slower than my mobile internet so it's gonna take ages. Is it possible to update your phone without wi-fi? In FAQ on windowsphone.com it only recommends to have a wi-fi and doesnt say it's necessary.
I have a 1520(used to have a 1020) and my brother has a 1020. Of course i have to deal with her complaints when something goes wrong since i pushed her to a Lumia 1020 ....
What happens is, for whatever reason WIFI just randomly stops working. It'll show she is connected(both in the Icon at the top where you swipe and under settings/wifi) yet it doesn't actually load anything.
She'll be searching on Bing, Facebook, etc etc and she'll get the loading dots at the top of her screen that'll run endlessly. I have to then go into her settings and turn off wifi and then back on and it'll start working but then eventually it does it again shortly where there is no data or whatever.
I've experienced some slow switching between wifi on and wifi off.. Especially when I switch wifi to 'OFF' it would take several seconds up to half a minute if not more....
No problems until recently. I've noticed at Home & Work where I spend 90% of my time the WiFi has not connected (and I end up using my Data Plan). So once I notice it I have to connect manually and its fine. Both networks show up in advanced at "known".
I have a Nokia 1020. It has worked very well for me until recently when I bought an Qed UPlay bluetooth receiver for my stereo.Previously I had bluetooth disabled always on my 1020 but now I have it on the most of the time. What I've noticed is that my phone is restarting constantly. It seems to be connected to when I have bluetooth and wifi enabled. Or at least when I have bluetooth enabled. The phone can restart a couple of times a hour. Since yesterday evening I have had 6 restarts. That I know about...
The bluetooth settings window also hangs, I can't do anything, can't connect/disconnect from the Qed and I can't disable bluetooth. When I try a progress bar is showing that it is working but it never changes to disabled. Also, when this is happening I also can't disable wifi, the same issue with progressbar.
The wifi status bar also sometimes is in the "connecting to a wifi"-animation. It can be in this mode in hours, and of course, doesn't connect to any wifi allthough I have two which are available.I usually have to restart my phone to be able to disable/enable bluetooth/wifi.I had this issue before GDR3 and Nokia Black. And still have it after updating to Nokia Black.
The internet connection on my 1020 is extremely slow when WIFI is connected (every other device I own is fine and can easily clear 30 meg download, 5 meg up.) When I use search, the phone screen times out and shuts off before returning any results (times out after 1 minute). I have reset the phone this morning to start over but the problem remains. The speed is perfect using Data and WIFI off, but once WIFI is enabled, the internet comes to a near halt.
I need to edit the default gateway setting for one of my wireless networks as there is a repeater that for some reason only allows me to connect to a handful of networks but if I'm nearer to it than the main wifi router the phone switches to it. I want to just manually set the default gateway as the main modem router like I have done on my laptop but don't seem to be able to edit the settings in Windows Phone 8 - they're all greyed out.
After weeks with the update I've noticed that my wifi reception seems to be pretty spotty. I know it's not my router because all my other devices have maintained the same performance as they always have. Most of the time I get half the signal I used to but sometimes I get no signal at all until I restart.
I'm having some weird issues with the WIFI connections when my phone is on airplane mode. I can't connect to both of my home WIFI - 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Both of the SSIDs are not being displayed at all, until I turned off airplane mode. However, both my Nexus 7 (2013) and HTC One are working fine with their airplane modes. Is this some crazy limitations of Windows Phone again?
Her phone was perfect before doing the updates. Now, she claims the BT just turns off and won't turn back on (in the car, connected to the car audio system). I looked at her phone the other day and sure enough, BT and WIFI were both OFF, and when I tried to turn them on, it said something like "Sorry, can't to that right now. Try again later.". Turned off phone and turned back on, and it's fine...for a while, then does the same thing.
No problems until recently. I've noticed at Home & Work where I spend 90% of my time the WiFi has not connected (and I end up using my Data Plan). So once I notice it I have to connect manually and its fine. Both networks show up in advanced at "known". Is this a "bug" caused by a recent update?
I recently bought a Nokia 1020 and i suspect that there are something wrong with the camera. The quality of the photos that i take are, in my opinion, nowhere near the ones you can se in reviews and those released by Nokia.
To me it looks like it's only the middle part of every photo that is correctly focused. The edges are very blurry. I have no case on the phone, no dirt on the lens and i have tried to reset the camera and reboot, no difference.
I will attach some photos on which I think you can see it clearly. The images are very sharp in the middle but when you move towards the edges it quickly becomes blurry. Both pictures are taken in daylight with Nokia Pro Cam, all settings on auto.
The pictures are the high resolution version: FileSnack | Easy file sharing FileSnack | Easy file sharing.
New to the Windows mobile phone... I use my Windows phone for business and do a lot of conference calls. With my iPhone I used to be able to put the phone number with three commas and then the passcode to the conference call in the meeting request (format = 555-555-5555,,,12121212#). By using this format my customers could just click the link in their iPhone and it would auto-dial the conference number along with the passcode so that they did not have to remember the passcode while driving.
Example: 555-555-5555,,,12121212#. (autohyperlink for iOS) VS 555-555-5555 Passcode 12121212 then press # (caller can hyperlink the phone number but has to remember the passcode and dial it while driving...)
By using this format you could just click the number and it would dial the number pause then auto add the passcode and # to enter the conference call. I think Blackberry used to use a similar format to achieve the same thing.
Yesterday, I went running with my Lumia 1020 listening to music and using the Runtastic app. The music stopped - I looked at the phone - it was turned off. I tried powering on, but to no avail. I should also mention that upon leaving, the battery was fully charged and this happened after some 20 minutes. When I came home, I immediately put the phone on the wall charger and expected it to power on after a while. I checked it after 3 hours and nothing, the phone was still stone-dead and what was even more worrying, completely cold - no heat-up from charging.
I tried connecting it to my PC - the computer didn't even recognize ANY device was connected to it. Just to be sure, I tried Nokia Software Recovery Tool, but sure enough, it was not able to detect the phone. The phone seems to be dead meat now, but when I put it on my desk wireless charging stand, the stand's indicator lights up, although the phone does nothing and stays that way.
Yesterday I updated my Lumia 1020 to Lumia Cyan. I've been using WP 8.1.1 with developer preview. Today I left my phone at home, I didn't use it and when I tried to pick it up I actually got scared, it was so extremely hot that I thought it will explode. After few seconds I got warning that battery is low but I know that it was around 70% when iI left it(I've left it only for 1 hour). I turned it off so it could cold before I charge it.
nokia lumia 1020 has just gone dead no response from the phone tried hard and soft reset nothing happens tried plugging in a charger into charger port on the phone and still nothing before it went off the phone had half battery life in it and was expreincing phone freezing up and the phone slowed down and now wont come on at all i have had the battery replaced and still no joy the phone shop tried to flash the software and no connectivity with computer also the phone shop checked my old battery with another lumia 1020 and that worked so the issue wasnt the battery
