So this will be my first iPhone and I'm wondering if you have some recommendations for apps. Preferably free, but cheap paid apps are ok too. :-) I'm cheap. I'm not much into games, but not opposed to suggestions either. I'm a musician so good music apps are appreciated.
I already downloaded Pandora, SoundHound, AT&T myWireless, Bump, Mint.com, USA Today, and Wells Fargo Mobile
So I've been experimenting with a bunch of free texting apps for iPhone and am a bit disappointed. The ones with decent interfaces such as Textfree and Textnow are both plagued by the problem that they send texts from different phone numbers every time you send a text. While this isn't really a huge problem for people with regular phones, iPhone users get irritated because texts will come in from different numbers, causing the text log to balloon in size and makes it difficult to keep track of conversations.
The only texting app that doesn't seem to behave this way is Textplus, which I loathe. The interface is complete and utter crap. The app runs so slowly and the texts are limited to 140 characters in length. These characteristics are true even for the paid version.
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knows of any texting app that has a fast and smooth UI as well as sends texts from the same number each time?
Massive letdown, can't get decent apps, each time I find a good app it tells me my device/carrier does not accept it. Sky mobile looks excellent but my carrier won't accept, any way round this?
Just dropped off my new Bold 9000 and I feel like a kid at Christmas. The CS was right when she said it would be early this week. I am so looking forward to exploring everything about this device. I thinkg I will wait a little while befor I install OS 5.0. I am coming from a Curve 8310 so this device is bound to be a vast improvement. I want to download a couple of apps. that might be beneficial to me. I did try to download theweather eye beta from pelmorex, but I was unsuccessful on my curve. If anyone has any suggestions as to useful apps, feel free to respond.
Right now when I start my iPhone all the apps that were running when I turned it off are running again. Is there a way to get it to start up with all apps off? Or, even better, as with the Mac to be able to specify startup items?
From time to time all (or most) of my dowloaded apps dont start anymore. Klick on the icon - short flashing- and nothing. The last time I had the case, I had to uninstall and then reinstall again each app. However, this requires internet connection, is time consuming, and all data were lost. Any idea why that, and how else I can make them start again? Note - I'm travelling often between different countries (Germany, Italy, Russia and others), and have applications in different languages (German, English, Russian)
I am sure I'll get people telling me the science of Apple's multitasking trying to convince me that there's no way Apps are running in the background or whatnot. But after several days of testing - there are some Apps (like Words with Friends) that are draining the battery when "not in use" but still in the quick start dock. On days that I have NOTHING in the dock, I am at between 97-100% throughout my NYC morning commute while reading with the Kindle Reader. If I have some apps in the dock during the same time frame I've gotten as low as 90-92%.
Going to do some more empirical testing (one full day of not opening up one of these apps at all vs keeping one open but not using all day long) to see overall difference. So either some apps unfortunately are sucking battery life - or my phone, in particular has varied battery life. I typically come home with anywhere from 55-65% of battery left when everything is closed on the dock. On the days I've test the above, I've come home with about 30-40%. Same usages/settings/locations.
When I download a app, nothing is wrong at that moment. But when I start the app by clicking on it, a pop-up appears that says:'Error starting [app name]: Error loading module '[app name]' VerifyError.'
i just installed symbiann belle a week ago on my e6 nd nw wen i try to open any nokia app(like ovi music, nokia store,etc)......they dont open wen i click on dem nthing happens.....i hv tried to reinstall it.....but it says unable to install ANd Wenevr i try to open social app it say uninstall and reinstall social?
I've had a problem with applications starting GPS. First Maps/Navigation, and confirmed with GPS Status. All location servers are enabled in Settings (Google Location services, Standalone GPS services, VZW location services). I'm outdoors when I'm performing these test with a clear view of the sky.
I'll start Maps, find a location, and choose to get 'Driving Directions.' It stops at "searching for GPS." The GPS icon in the notification bar never turns on. I've downloaded GPS Status, and it also doesn't show the GPS icon in the notification bar and therefore doesn't attempts to lock on. I haven't seen other forum posts about GPS problems where the icon doesn't show.
This is sporadic and doesn't happen all of the time when I use the app. But it has occured, between the two apps, about 6 times in the week I've owned the phone.
A work-around that has worked 2 out of 2 times so far is for me is to go into settings, toggle both "Standalone GPS services" and "VZW location services." Then go back into the app and the GPS starts and the icon shows in the bar and everything works. Simply toggling "Standalone GPS services" does not fix the problem, I also must toggle "VZW location services." I haven't tried toggling only "VZW" yet. Everything works fine for a while and then the app breaks again later.
Every time I want to use the Camera on my curve it says (could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the Camera again)? How do I fix this as I am not aware of other app running?
When trying to select my camera, my phone comes up with a black screen then a warning message saying "Could not start the camera, Close all other applications and try opening the camera again". I have gone thru every thing on my phone to make sure there is nothing open or running and cannot find anything.
I have also taken the battery out and started the phone up again. This has happened in the past, it stayed like this for a couple of weeks then all of a sudden one day it just worked, not sure what happened or why, but it would be great to have a quick fix solution to this problem.
My son is in the Army stationed overseas. We've skyped on my laptop but I really have my Xoom with me far more often. Is it possible to set skype to always run so he can find me whenever he's on?
Coming from a Razr Maxx that had issues, I am accustomed to checking my Running Apps list following a start-up/power cycle and force stopping the ones that are not essential to the phone functioning properly. And it seems old habits die hard as I caught myself doing just this on my Turbo and, what do you know.. some of the same apps are running immediately after start-up, despite the fact that I haven't opened them. A few of the culprits are Password Keeper and YouTube. I do use/open these apps on occasion (1-2 times per month) but I certainly do not like them running automatically for no reason. Nothing I do on the phone on a daily basis requires them to be open. It's a PITA to have to go in and manually tell them to shut the heck up! (Yes, I have gone into the settings on each of these apps but there is no box to uncheck to not have the app run on start-up.) So, it would be ever so nice to be able to have a say on what runs and what doesn't
I use a blackberry 9700. Recently, I tried opening my camera but it always says "Camera could not start. Close other applications and try opening again." I've closed all running applications in my phone but the Camera still won't start....
I've had my Curve for about 2 years now.. and this is the only problem I've had with it since I got it. I went to use the camera yesterday and I get a message saying: "Could not start the camera. Close other applications and trying opening the camera again." The camera screen loads but it's black and it's not picking up anything....

Im using nokia 5530 and usually it goes slow and some of its apps stop working like music player hangs but remain playing. it slows down while sending or receiving messages even when messages are in outbox. Its RAM remains 80mb full even when no application running only 40-45mb is available. Sometimes its headphones' player buttons stop working and start working after restart.
I have a CrapBerry and am ready to finally get an iPhone. The new features of iPhone 4 don't interest me; I think the older iPhone 3GS is fine for my needs, but I want more than 8 GB, ideally 32 GB. Also, I want a new one, not a used one. My question is should I buy one now (while they are still officially listed for $199) or will they go on sale when the 4 comes out? Or will they disappear from the market and I'll have missed my chance?
I was considering buying an iPhone but I'm a little hesitant because I think Apple may be updating it very soon. Do you think now is a good time to buy? From what I can gather, there's a good chance it will be updated in around June/July like it usually has been. My biggest concern, though, is that when Apple does a major update to the firmware (software?), will a current 3GS be able to update to it as well? Hardware changes seem less important to me because while there are bound to be some changes, overall, most things will probably remain similar. Things like an OLED would be nice, but not as important to me... I don't believe they will add much power to the device because new apps would come out requiring more power, and older iPhone owners may not be able to use them.
Also, while some amazing Android phones are sure to come out this year, I can't keep waiting for them. I would probably choose the Google Nexus One over the iPhone, but it will probably still be some time before it comes to Canada (and probably only WIND Mobile will get it.) As long as the iPhone can keep matching Android's features via firmware updates, I wouldn't mind hanging onto the 3GS when the new iPhone comes out. Those are my thoughts, what do you guys think?
If i had the money to buy an iPad id want to put it into my dashboard of my car. That would have been a better idea for apple to market the iPad. That way you can have a music player, gps, maps, watch videos, not sure what else but on a big screen like that in the car would be nice. I think iphone and ipod touch are too small to use in the car. I dont know why apple didnt think of doing this in the first place. Be able to put it and detatch it from the dashboard cuz you wouldnt wanna leave it in the car. Another good thing to use it as would be like an mpc with intua beatmaker app if you make music. It would be way cheaper than buying an mpc. What would be some other good uses for it?
