IPhone :: Updating From 4.2 To New IOS 5 - Not Connected To Network
Mar 18, 2012
I have my phone plugged directly into my computers USB port. I still have the old 4.2 software and am trying to update it to 5.0. The message keeps saying "No internet connection" or "not connected to network" while I am clearly connected to the internet.
My iPhone is on the Bell network, along with 3 other iPhones in my household. We have WiFi and the phone indicate that they are connected to the WiFi when we are in the house. However, my bill from Bell indicates several instances where the phones (all 4 at different times) are connected to the 3G network for 24+ hours at a time. Additionally, it shows the phone connected twice during that time period (as though there were 2 different sessions at exactly the same time, but with differing amount of data connected)
The explaination that Bell gives me is that there are 'minimized' applications still working on 3G even though the phone says it is on WiFi, and that each of these opens its own 'connection'My understanding of cell technology is that the phone can only access one method of Internet connectivity at a time, and that it can be explained as a 'pipe' or 'straw' carrying connectivity and all of the data. I have never heard of a phone that can access two different types at the same time, nor one that uses separate 'sessions' at the same time of either type of connectivity.
I would assume that I turn on my phone in the morning and I am in my house, it indicates WiFi, so I can browse the web, collect my email and update my Facebook on that 'session' that lasts 4 hours until I leave the house. Now my 3G kicks in and the email that I still have open now collects through the opened 3G session, as well as the page I left open downloading something. When I get to work and enter my WiFi area there, the session would then collect my email through WiFi again, and my download as well.
I have gone thru all the diagnostics with ATT over the phone. They think it maybe a SIM card issue or a phone hardware problem. Is there anyway I can diagnose the phone hardware?
Since I have updated my iPhone 4 to IOS 5.1.1 last week, my ATT 3G wireless service (internet, apps, etc) keeps crashing. I can turn on airplane mode and back off and it will work for a few minutes, then it stops working again. I have not hit the throttled 3G service (im unlimited and have only used 322mb so far). Voice works fine.
Also, my battery, which used to work fine all day, now has to be recharged before the end of the day. I have restored the phone yesterday, no changes. This all started after the update.
My 3GS has suddenly began to consume 0.8mb per hour cellular date, even when it is on a WiFi network! Have killed all apps be double clicking HOME button, and shutting them all down individually. I have also turned off PUSH mail, but problem persists. On ios5.1.1 & new battery fitted only 10- weeks ago.

I used to browse webpages through wifi connection. Recently, I did a security wipe. After that, I can see that my phone connects to our home wifi. But whenever I try to open webpages or apps using wifi, I get an error that says I don't have network coverage/connection. I tried checking wifi settings and all but it seems that everything's normal...
For a number of days now my phone has been taken off the BlacBerry network and I cannot access Internet or BlackBerry Messenger on my phone. I have gprs instead of GPRS showing on my phone. I am having severe problems with my bb torch 9800, it wont stay connected to the wireless network for any length of time before I have to register it again, this is happening daily now realised it was doing this when i try and send information over my wifi and it would connect to it but would not send any data, and comes up with a message stating I am not connected to the wireless network. As said before the way I could get it to work temporary is by going to, options, device, advanced system settings, host routing table, and the pressing the bb key and selecting register now. This has only started happening since updating my torch.
