Nokia :: N900 - Ignores Sim Card / Not Connected To Network
May 12, 2010
My phone ignores my previously recognised sim. Went through setting. Tapped phone icon and message dislogue says "not connected to network". Sim Card was placed properly in the slot. Please help.
I got my N900 monday together with a new O2 sim card. It worked fine on monday and tuesday, but since yesterday, the connectivity to the O2 network is down. When I start up the phone, it asks for the PIN; so it seems that the sim card is recognized. But it does not connect to the network! The provider name does not appear next to the status bar, and there is no connectivity indicator on the status bar. Offline mode is disabled, of course.
Text messages cannot be send; when I try to call someone, I get an error (translated from german: "network not available" or similar). The strange thing is that sometimes I can reach the network for very short time. I then get missed test messages, but that's it. The connection lasts for not more than 2-3 minutes, I guess. I tried another sim card, and this one did not work, too. The sim card was placed properly into the slot. Is there anything I can do, or may this be a well-known firmware bug?
When I click on "Backup" in PC-Suite it says: "No phones are connected. Connect now."However, all other applications in PC-Suite recognize my connected phone successfully. Can anyone please advise why Backup doesn't recognize it?
I had been using my N900 for 2 weeks without any issues. I never updated the software. Last night I was trying to take a picture and opened the camera lens cover. Accidentally I pressed the power button instead of the camera capture key while trying to take the picture. The display went off. I also found the phone felt warmer than usual. I took the battery out, put it in and tried again. No success. This time the phone did seem to be getting hot. I took the battery out and tried several hours later. No effect - the phone wasn't feeling warm either. I tried both the USB and wall charger - the LED was glowing green, but the phone wouldn't turn on.
Now even with the charger connected, the LED doesn't glow. Being a Sunday, I can't contact Nokia Care till tomorrow. Breaks my heart to think the hardware could get messed up so easily. We've had several Nokias in the family but not a high end one like N900. I've tried everything suggested in other forurms (including Maemo). I tried to update software with NSU. The NSU can't even detect the N900 when I connect it to the USB port. Probably suggests the battery is flat. I don't have a 5800 to try and recharge the battery externally - its shocking to know the phone can't charge if the battery is flat. If a laptop can why can't a "smart" phone? Anything else I can try?
I just acquired my N900 two days ago from a Nokia authorised dealer in Nigeria and even convinced a colleague to pick one yesterday as well.I live in Nigeria and my GSM operator is etisalat, im presently experiencing difficulties with using service commands on my phone. For instance, when i dial *235(hash, sorry cant find the symbol on my macbook pro) to check my balance; i get an error message saying "number incorrect". Other service commands dont also work. Is there a way around this?
Its frustrating also that there is no official Nokia plugin for isync. I use a macbook pro and cant seem to find a way around syncing both devices. In the interim, I found www.salling.com very useful in transferring my media files.
My phone stays always connected to the WLAN network wherever available say at my home, at office. When i go to WLAN Wizards and disconnect it. It again get reconnected automatically. Even if I remove all the known connection, it keeps popping up the select WLAN network page. I have no clue why is it happening? can anyone tell me what is the reason and hot to get rid of it.?
When i am at home my N900 uses my home WiFi to connect to the internet, the same way my lap top does, i also have a printer connected to the network via Ethernet. Why is my laptop able to send doc's to the print but my N900 is not able to?
My iPhone is on the Bell network, along with 3 other iPhones in my household. We have WiFi and the phone indicate that they are connected to the WiFi when we are in the house. However, my bill from Bell indicates several instances where the phones (all 4 at different times) are connected to the 3G network for 24+ hours at a time. Additionally, it shows the phone connected twice during that time period (as though there were 2 different sessions at exactly the same time, but with differing amount of data connected)
The explaination that Bell gives me is that there are 'minimized' applications still working on 3G even though the phone says it is on WiFi, and that each of these opens its own 'connection'My understanding of cell technology is that the phone can only access one method of Internet connectivity at a time, and that it can be explained as a 'pipe' or 'straw' carrying connectivity and all of the data. I have never heard of a phone that can access two different types at the same time, nor one that uses separate 'sessions' at the same time of either type of connectivity.
I would assume that I turn on my phone in the morning and I am in my house, it indicates WiFi, so I can browse the web, collect my email and update my Facebook on that 'session' that lasts 4 hours until I leave the house. Now my 3G kicks in and the email that I still have open now collects through the opened 3G session, as well as the page I left open downloading something. When I get to work and enter my WiFi area there, the session would then collect my email through WiFi again, and my download as well.
Got my n900 last week. and it cant recognize my sim card.im using a pay as you go sm card with CBB. danish provider which is under telenor.i have been researching around with this sim card errors, and i found out that the problem is with new sim cards.the chip design is different from the old ones.
and i have tried with the old design of same provider, ( my fathers sim card) and that worked fine in my n900.i called my provider and they can only provide the new designed chip.
so i really hope nokia comes with an update very soon, coz i cant use this phone for jack now.i took a pic of the 2 different chipset design i have.the left one is the new design which doesnt work, the right one is the old design which works
Here is the poblem I have since yesterday. If I put my friend's Sim Card in my N900, everything works fine. If I put my own Sim Card into my friend's phone, everything also works fine. If I put my own sim card into my N900, and try to make call immediate after the screen boots up (icons are slow then, still loading), then it also works fine.
However if my N900 properly boots up, then I cannot make calls at all. Setting it to offline mode then normal mode will not register with my network and result in Sim Card registration error if I wait long enough. So it seems like my N900 won't take my Sim Card after booting. it will take it during booting, but some process killed it. Can someone help me solve this? I do not remember installing anything since last time it worked.
My N900 can't recognize or see memory card. is this part of the big failure or peculiar to mine. Worst still, I cant use check my credit balance using the code *556#, load credit. It doesnt with pc suite, nor with the ovi suite, map updater, map loader! is this a fraud or what?
Yesterday evening, I suddenly couldn't get a GPRS or any other phone signal on my phone. On switching off/on, I was informed of the above error message.I tried rebooting the phone via the 'u' key (battery out) process and this did not solve the problem. I tried the SIM card in my old phone and it worked perfectly. The N900 WLAN works normally.I did nothing unusual with the phone yesterday evening so I am bemused at this error suddenly happening.
I just got my N900 about 2 days back, my sister dropped it and it would not turned on. I flashed it, and now it turns on but it does not recognize my internal memory card. I don't have an external card. I can't use camera, all websites show blank, and I get low error messages on almost everything else due to this.
If I go to settings/memory the the device memory is full and available memory for installable applications is at 80 MB. There is no corrupt memory card message. Also if I go to backup utility I get a "no memory card inserted" message. Any suggestions?
The title pretty much sums up my problem. I used the instructions from here to re-flash my N900. http://wiki.maemo.org/Updating_the_firmware#Windows
And now as the N900 starts (takes a really long time) it does not ask for the SIM-card PIN code and as it is started it just shows a SIM-card icon with a red line over it near the battery icon. SIM-card is fine as it works on my N95. Any ideas what's wrong? I also tried another SIM-card. Nothing. And PC-Suite is not recognizing the phone either. I even tried flashing the eMMC but it didn't make any difference. The small lights in the bottom of the screen just blink for about 45 seconds and then after the boot video the phone start as if no SIM-card is there.
Couldn't get my n900 to work on WLAN, with SIM or without SIM card.apparently everything works fine, except the device keep saying that couldn't find the IP address.
When trying to top up the pre-paid card in my N900: *141* number of pin #, when I press the call button, I get this message: incorrect number. It seems as if the phone doesnt recognize the * and considers it a normal phone number I am trying to call. I would appreciate some advise to have the N900 accept the code so that I can top up the pre-paid card?
I am trying to transfer music to my N900 device but Ovi Music tells me it is connected in the wrong mode. It says" unplug your device and reconnect it, a menu will appear, and depending on the model, use one of the following: Media Player, Printing and Media and Media Transfer. The problem is that no menu appears on the screen of the N900. What should I do?
I would like to know where is the function to reformat my Micro SDHC memory card from my N900 device? I am still using the same 16GB memory card from my previous Eseries S60 third edition device which created all the folders & system files & some downloaded apps for S60 still saved on this card, please advise.
For starters i love this handst but getting very annoyed by this fault I keep on having.Pretty much i am on my 3rd N900 as my last two kept on telling me to insert a sim card when there was one in there which worked with other phones and other sim cards did the same thing in the phone. Also it is always loosing the signal.usually a quick reset fixes this problem but now this phone won't pick it up at all. It has had no signal for 24 hours. Sim works in other phones and other simcards have the same problem in this phone.
I have changed from dual to gsm and 3g but still no luck. Carphonewarehouse says it is a antenee problem but this has happened to 3 of them!! Any ideas, as i am looking to swap it for the Nexus One which i don't really want to do but will be forced to if none of you have a fix.
I can't get the WLAN to work without a SIM-card in the phone. I have the same problem if there is a SIM in the phone but I choose not to enter then pin when starting the phone. I have set up a WLAN that works fine with the SIM enabled so it seems as the settings are fine. Is there something special I have to do to enable the WLAN when there is no SIM in the phone?
Has anybody experimented with an additional 32GB SDHC card? Did it work? I am just curious to find out if instead of using an additional 16GB, a 32GB can be used?
I do really have serious problem. I have nokia N900 which is U.S.A. I was trying to update through flasher, then the phone doesn't complete booting I mean just stuck on booting. I did try another version, and also doesn't work. The phone only accept one or tow version which is a Global RX-51_2009SE_2.2009.51-1_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM and Middle East version RX-51_2009SE_1.2009.42-11.003_PR_COMBINED_003_ARM. Just accepting the old version. When I update to latest version, it just stuck for more than 4 hours on the 5 dots or booting.
I did read almost or all the posts talking about this problem and no one worked with me. I did flash it with EMMC first then OS but also nothing happened. And when I flash with the old global, the phone boot up and work fine but when I check the IMEI there is nothing show up. And there is red line on the top on the sim card. I tried many SIM card. But nothing work. I hope I can find solution.
I'm having a small problem here. The memory of both memory card and internal memory of my N900 is read only. I tried a reboot, reconnecting, ... Nothing helps.I connect it to a Debian and windows XP, none of them work.Any suggestions somehting like fsck? I know fsck is on the device but I don't know how to use it well?
I have gone thru all the diagnostics with ATT over the phone. They think it maybe a SIM card issue or a phone hardware problem. Is there anyway I can diagnose the phone hardware?
I've tried rebooting taking the battery out, switching on and off with and without the sim card I've left it for 3 hours backing up and when I returned it was still on 13%?
