IPhone :: Getting AT&T Activation Fee Waived / Adding Corporate Discount?
Aug 6, 2010
So my original plan was to buy two iPhone 4's under my wife's name since her employer allows her to get a corporate discount of 20% along with no activation fees. The problem was her credit check as she pretty much has no credit. Instead of paying $750 for each line we setup a new account under my name as I have great credit and wouldn't be charged for a deposit.
Since I don't have access to a Premier discount we were charged activation fees. This isn't a big deal but if I can get them waived then that would be great. Is this very difficult to get an AT&T CSR to do? nAlso, would it be possible to go in to AT&T's website (or call in, w/e) later and change my wife to the primary account holder and apply her corporate discount?

So, my family decided to all upgrade to the new iPhone. The three of us would all be getting the 16GB, so about $600 for the phones, and then an activation fee (another $100 added to that). Seems like a lot, especially since I noticed that the Online Store would allow us to go without the Activation Fee about two weeks ago...
Also, how would we go about doing this? With the new restriction of only one iPhone per customer, and only one per household, how are we to do this? If all three of us went together, would we be able to get all three iPhones? Would going to an Apple Store help? And if so, is there a way to waive the Activation Fee there? If this can be done without physically going to the store, please let me know. (Older folks don't want to get up and wait just for a phone, but they don't get us Apple folk .)

I had read a few posts on this site saying that you can pre-order the phone, and then when you get it at the store, you can tell them that you'll activate it at home. Would that result in a waived Activation Fee?

I was planning on going to the Apple store to get an iPhone 4, but my wife just pointed out that when I did that to get my 3G we had a huge headache as Apple couldn't activate my phone since we have a discount on our plan... I had to go across the mall to AT&T to have them take the discount off, go back to Apple to get the iPhone (AT&T didn't have any in stock) then after all that headache we went back to AT&T and they couldn't put the discount back on for 48 hours.so I had to make a special trip to the AT&T store an hour drive.
Anyone experience anything like this last year with the 3GS? Anyone know if the issue is fixed? Or do I just need to get my phone direct from AT&T? On a side note, does anyone know if it's possible to start a new plan or add a line to an existing plan with my 3G so that line wouldn't have a new 2 year agreement?

When I got my phone, the Verizon rep helped move my 3000 contacts from my old phone to the new one. They are all there in the phone. But, they will not sync up into Outlook via MS Exchange. It WILL sync a newly added Contact, so sync is working between my phone and Outook. This works both directions, whether I create a new record on my phone or create the new record in Outlook. It just won't work with the ones loaded on the phone at the time of purchase. How tag all my original Contacts on my phone so they will flow up into Exchange/Outlook?

So days before I preordered, I checked and even text that number to determine if I am eligible for early upgrade and I was and was told that the $18 upgrade fee will be waived. So I preordered yesterday thru AT&T and during the check out process, the charge looks about right and didn't really checked the calculations because nothing on the invoice shows about the upgrade fee but now that I'm calculating it, they charge me the $18 upgrade fee! $299 for the 32GB Black iPhone 4 and they charged me $317, I thought it was the tax but I noticed that the tax charge is TBD, so $317 - $299 = $18. Are they going to waive the upgrade fee later?

My wife has a FAN IRU discount code from her employer. I was wondering if that code can be used to get a new IPhone under my name? Or does the phone have to be under my wife's name?

I'm currently with VZW and planningto pre-order tomorrow. Since I'm porting + a brand new customer + get FAN discounts (service disc, free activation...etc) through my employer do I need to actually go into ATT to set up?
Should I preorder through ATT and have it delievered to my house/work and then go in to ATT to have it activated/ported/discounts added?I really want to get my hands on the phone ON the 24th. From everything I've read Apple is not the best place to go if you're in my situation.

just got off the phone with Apple Store The Grove (in LA)
the lady told me, just because I have a reservation for the phone, it doesn't guarantee me from getting the phone. I'd still have to go wait in the line. Even the people that don't have the reservation could be in front of me as long as they get there earlier than me.
AND, according to that "genius", Apple store don't give you discount on iphones even with you are suppose to get it with early upgrade. So, if you want to get an iphone from the store, you are paying full price.

My NE2 is coming up next month. I have a Storm and was wondering should I use my upgrade to get a Storm 2 or should I wait for the Storm 3?Do you guys know how long the NE2 discount lasts? Also, if I buy the Storm 2 from someone else and activate it on my account, does that whip out my NE2 and it make it unusable?

I live in Turkey. The BIS prices decreased last summer in my country. For example, one of the carrier's BIS price was 32 TL (Turkish Liras) before last summer. And last summer after the discount the same package price was 17 TL. The other two operators also allowed a reduction. What i wonder is: is there a common discount policy all around the world by Rim or carriers?

I got an interesting topic in my school to write about. I have to compare and use either an iPad or iPhone 4 in management and/or corporation. So this is what I learned (the question I'm asking is in the bottom of the post ).
http://www.uxmag.com/technology/ipad...perience-study you can use the iPad as a better cashier than iPhone
http://appadvice.com/applists/show/i...he-businessman - there are some great apps for using on an iPad (iPhone has them too I think)
http://thecomputerboss.com/2010/05/5...-for-business/ - also some ways that you can use the iPad for business...
Now the question I'm asking is do you know of any article, personal experience and/or forum talk that would give me information which one to choose if I was a business-man from a small Telecommunication, Dance or performance company? Or even better for a bigger corporation?
The things I would need have both (the calendar, email browser and internet browser, music player, movie player, connectivity (both can use wlan and 3G) - but I think here iPhone 4 wins).
I would use it in meetings (http://appadvice.com/app/354098826 -great app beside iCal), reading some books (getting information from literature), showing some videos that were made by myself, it would be nice to take videos, connect to email and internet, have as much an all in one device as possible, have personal information written in it, complete connectivity with windows, linux and mac systems (such as working on different floors in a company without any problems), price is bellow 650 EUR (or around it) - live in Europe, and a strong battery (at least for a few days of moderate work).
So any help would be much appreciated. Oh and one last question.when does the iPhone fewer stop in Europe so I a person could normaly buy one?

So since the iPhone 4 will have a Micro SIM, how will I get my info and stuff off of my current SIM card and put it onto the Micro SIM? I am most likely going to order and have the iPhone 4 shipped to my Apple Store so I can pick it up first thing in the morning. Will the Apple Store be able to transfer the cards, or will I have to go to the ATT store later and have them do it? Also, think ATT would charge me anything for doing it? Thanks Guys.

I thought I would share my experience of trying to get my activation fee waived.Well it took me 3 calls to ATT but I finally got my fee waived as a one time courtesy. My first two calls ended in failure. I was polite yet stern with both reps and told them I think its absurd to charge $36 activation fee on a phone that I activated myself and that I think paying $2000 over two year contract is worthy for them to waive this bogus $36 charge. Both reps talked to supervisors but told me there was no way they could remove the fee because it is a legitimate charge due to a deal they have with apple. They said if it was any other phone but the Iphone they could do it.
At this point i didnt think it was possible to get it waived but I decided to call one more time and try. This time a guy picked up and I asked him if there was anyway they could waive the activation fee. He didnt need to speak to any supervisor and just straight up told me that he understands my complaint and will remove the fee as a one time courtesy. It was so simple and yet it saved me $42 on my first bill. HUGE!So if anyone is having problems trying to get there activation fee waived I suggest to keep calling back until you get a decent rep. SO yeah be persistent and it could save you some money.

today i was trying to update my iPhone 4S from iOS 5.0to 5.1.1. No problems restoring it, but when i try to activate it,the process fails every time. It seems that Apple Activation servers are down?Im a computer enthusiast and have already checked my home network for issues that can block access to apple servers, also checked from another network and machines, but still no luck. Tried to activate using WiFi on my iPhone, 3G network, and even Connect to iTunes on my PC. I noticed that apple activation server is gs.apple.com. Pinging it from any source on my network just generates timeouts, and even tried to ping it from online pages that provide ping service (ping.eu), but it generates timeouts too.Non modified iPhone 4S - black

I was using the blackberry service for several years with ISP Cormote in Greece and a Bold 9700 device. At some point I decided to switch to another ISP and from the moment I switched to Wind I could setup the gmail/yahoo accounts but not the business account of mine (the one that I used to work with previous ISP for so many years).I was constantly getting the "An error occured during email account validation. Please check your information and try again." error. The ISP spent at least 15 days trying to resolve it, but to no success. At that moment I decided to switch back to the same ISP that I had just a few days before and that used to work without problems.
