HTC :: How Does Droid Eris With Froyo 2.2 Stack Up
Sep 17, 2010
Think of buying a used Droid Eris in top condition, so that I can use a well known Verizon MVNO.
Of course I'm not trying to compare the Eris with an iPhone in terms of syncing up with a Mac .... but as far as a touch screen device, typing / touching accuracy, user interface experience .....
How does the Eris with 2.1 / 2.2 compare to the iPhone 3Gs? Since I'm going to be paying for a non-Contract phone -- the Eris is the only one I am considering.
Any idea how to transfer contact info (or any other data) from an AT&T Samsung phone to the Eris? Clearly, due to the two different system I can't just use the SIM card from the Samsung. Tried bluetooth but after pairing the two phones the Eris showed: "Paired but not connected". (I entered 0000 as PIN code for both phones (no idea what those PIN codes might be)) and I got that message. Also, the phone is connected to my wireless (signal strength is excellent, speed 54 Mbps, channel 1 (I don't know what it means)) network but the browser is not working, I can't open any website. Can it be some setting issue?
Oh, the Eris is not activated at this moment on any mobile network, but the browser should work when I'm on my own wireless network, shouldn't it?
I have flashed verizon Droid Eris to Pageplus. It's working great. the only issue is I am using lot of data and end up in using all the 50MB in a couple of weeks.Any tricks to decrease data usage.I am using Wifi whenever I can. I try to disable mobile internet as many times I remember.
I am trying to flash this droid over to sprint. when I write the sprint prl to the phone it accepts it, but does not get any service. system ID is correct. I tried several sprint prls and it still doesnt work. I slap the original verizon prl on the phone and I get full service bars.
i have tried to configure an imap ssl mail account on port 993 which has a self signed certificate. After entering the server and user settings etc, the connection test just ends without any message, showing the server settings page again. To my opinion a popup should appear instead, asking if I would like to accept the certificate. But as there is no chance to proceed to the next config page it is currently not possible to configure such a mail account. Several other users in german android forums are complaining this as well. Because the same server and settings perfectly work with my older HTC hero I assume that this must be a bug in the new htc mail app.
I am using a Droid Eris and a BlueAnt V1 earpiece. The BlueAnt offers voice-controlled speed dial on with phones that "adhere to the Bluetooth specification for speed dialing."For example, I should be able to say "Call Speed Dial 8", and the headset would tell the phone what to do. The V1 recognizes my commands (and repeats them), but when it sends them to the Eris, I always get a last-number redial.I suppose that means the Eris isn't fully Bluetooth compliant. Odd for a relatively new phone. Any hope in getting this to work? (and is this the best place to ask?)
I'm having issues with my Verizon Droid Eris. I can send MMS photos, but I cannot receive. It just says "Message not download. Retransmission scheduled on XX:XX" Also when I try to select something on my main screen, for example 'messages', it'll go to something else. (people, recent calls, pdf viewer... anything but messages.)
I have a HTC Droid Eris and it has a 5 mp camera.I notice it takes decent pics...if I upload them directly from my phone to flickr the quality stays intact.but if I use the facebook uploader or upload it via the facebook app the quality diminishes
Is there a way for me to upload directly to facebook without losing quality?or do i have to manually do it through usb or flickr? thanks
once in a blue moon, i'll go to the marketplace to update my apps and instead of showing me my 80+ apps, it only shows three. it will show: Internet, streetview for google maps, and google maps. obviously my apps are still installed because when i search for a specific app that i know needed an update (ex: facebook) it shows there's an update. generally it will fix itself by either a reboot or having to unistall marketplace updates and wait for it reupdate itself.
I was wondering if there was a way to revert back to the Froyo color scheme?. I not really happy with the white background/black writing...of the lastest gingerbread colours
I'd much prefer the old black background/white writing
When I call someone, the call starts and a notice says "Speaker On" every time, no matter how many times I switch it off. How do I stop this from happening? Also, at random intervals, the screen turns itself on, draining battery life significantly. Why does this happen?
ihave this blackberry 9630 tour im charging it and then when i saw it its not charging anymore and then i restart it and its loading and its stay there i cannot use it anymore its stay loading i try not to put the Battery for one whole day and when i put it back it still loading and when you wait for it the blackbery will restart and loading again.
I prefer to hide my wireless SSID but when I do this my android devices don't see the network. Even if I am already connected with my Xoom then switch to hidden SSID mode the Xoom disconnects. Same for my HTC Thunderbolt. My network is shown in the list of remembered networks as out of range. When in hidden mode. This does not affect my laptops.
They stay connected if I switch to hidden mode and they have a setting to connect to hidden networks that have previously been configured. I cannot find a setting for hidden network support on either android device. Hiding the SSID is not a new concept. Is this not supported in the android network stack? I have a strong random PW on my wifi so I am not terribly worried about it but I would be nice to have the option.
And apparently RIM is aware of this bad Bluetooth stack? This is what BlueAnt tech support is telling me and that it's BlackBerry's problem. I have a Tour running 5.0 and have never had an issue with any Bluetooth headset except the BlueAnt Z9i. My BlueAnt Z9i does seem to work fine on 4.7, but I'll chuck the Z9i in the can before I stick w/4.7 for any longer than testing purposes! BlueAnt said I should contact RIM for details on a solution; however, I see no reasonable means to directly contact RIM tech support? And since this is RIM's official support forums, unless I'm mistaken? Does anyone know anything about this faulty Bluetooth in 5.0 on the Tour and Storm 2 that causes random issues with Bluetooth headsets? Random issues are: Random beeps, buttons on headset being unresponsive, sound and mic not working, and hang-ups. These are all completely random issues the button unresponsiveness can be fixed by disconnecting the Bluetooth headset from the BlackBerry device via the BlackBerry device. And then the headset buttons will work again, enabling the headset to be powered down, etc This is of course a fix until it randomly happens again the next time it's paired to the Tour running 5.0!"As you know this is a specific issue with Blackberry tour (9630) and storm 2 phones using 5.0 OS, no updating of BlueAnt products will help as it's a fault with the phone." BlueAnt said "I believe It occurs on almost all Bluetooth devices within anything from one weeks to two months of pairing with a Blackberry tour using 5.0." BlueAnt said "Just to re-cap: the issues with the tour happen with all BlueAnt products: Q1, V1, Z9i etc And I've heard from consumers that called in it also occurs on Jabra's and Jawbones etc.We know that Blackberry know about the issue so if you contact them they should shed some light on it." BlueAnt said If you may be able to shed some light on this and need more background info, please read this thread here.
I was curious if you could bypass the forced activation screen on the Eris and make it to the home screen. I know you can do it on the Droid but I cannot figure it out for the Eris.
The last two nights I've plugged my Eris into the wall charger and it doesn't charge. The battery icon shows the lightning bolt and appears to be charging but when I wake up in the morning the battery level is still below 50%.
I want to jump into the smartphone world (I currently just have a flip phone) and I think the Eris is just the perfect form factor for me. But I heard it's running an old version of the Android OS (1.5). The guy at the Verizon store said the Eris would likely be getting the Android 2.0 or 2.1 OS in the next month or two. I figure I should wait as the current 1.5 version does not give you free Google maps navigation. The 2.0/1 will. Plus it will operate significantly faster.
GSMArena is reporting froyo is out as of the 25th, but i have not seen that anywhere else.Has anyone with a non rooted nexus and not a developer gotten the update yet?
I dunno if the Eris is that much better to make me stay with Verizon. The Sprint plans are just better. I really have no idea if there's any difference between the two though.
I'm trying to figure out what they do and what they mean. So far, here's what I think I've figured out. The translucent white track ball on the bottom blinks slowly about every 10 seconds when you have a new email or message. The top tiny LED to the right of the ear piece glows steady green when fully charged and steady red when charging. I recall it blinking green at one point but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to make it do this or what that would mean.Do any of you have any info. about either the [phantom] blinking green LED or any other status light issues?
very new to android OS, i red on internet how to get Froyo 2.2 and follow the instructions. But it failed as i get an error installation message.whats happening ?Also, i heard i have to unlcok the bootloader, that means to root the device right ?if so, all i need is to get the update
I'm a relatively new Incredible owner. I came from an Eris which was a nice enough phone but it was stuck with a hopelessly slow processor. As we all know, the Incredible came with 2.1. Any word on when we'll be getting Froyo? And I hope it's not as buggy as the 1.6->2.1 OTA update for the Eris! That was a nightmare. Almost everyone who did the OTA upgrade with the Eris had some kind of problem. Maybe the Eris' processor wasn't really up to the 2.1 software.I don't know, but it was a complete disaster. Here's hoping that the 2.1->2.2 update is glitch-free.
...I like the form factor of the Eris and I think it offers some functionality that the iphone (current version) doesn't. But then there's the apps available for the iphone and some other things.Based on what we know currently of the soon to be released Verizon iphone, what would you guys do?
How good is the wifi antenna on the Eris? Comparable to a decent laptop?I've never had a phone with wifi before but I would want a phone that can get reception where my laptop does. Sometimes I use these devices pretty far from the AP with low signal strength.
