Just got a nexus 5. I switched the location settings to battery saver but if I turn off location it defaults back to high accuracy mode when I turn it back on which drains my battery quickly.

View 9 Replies View RelatedFor the past week I've been running in high accuracy location mode because, for one I wanted to see if battery saving mode really saved much battery, and, also when I do need gps it's already on. I found that any difference in battery drain is negligible because gps is almost never on unless I'm specifically using it. Also if I have a phone with certain capabilities I want to utilize those capabilities. And what you've found as far as battery drain.

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore updating my device to Android 6, I used SmartLock so my phone would unlock automatically when I arrived at home.
After updating, SmartLock doesn't work anymore because of the GPS location, it doesn't have the accuracy needed for it. Whenever I open Maps, for instance, I need to wait for GPS get my accurate position, but if I close and then reopen it I need to do this again. I have high precision setted on my location settings.
Whenever my device (Nexus 5, Android 6.0) connects via USB, the USB config always defaults to "charging only".This is a big problem since whenever I'd like to listen mp3 connecting nexus 5 to my car stereo I have to manually set the mode to MTP.The big annoyance is that whenever I turn off the car engine and then restart it the nexus 5 USB connection go back to "charging only" !!!I already tried debugging mode: Develop settings -> USB Configuration is set to MTP.Any chance to set USB default as MTP?

Next time when I again click on a phone number in gmail App it shows the popup with different dialer options again. For some reason it's not saving the application defaults.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a Nexus 5 running 5.0.1 and the issue is that every time I switch my phone on the ringer volume is off, as in silent.
I usually forget to turn it back up until lunchtime by which time I've usually missed a couple of calls.
For the life of me I can't find where to set the default ringer volume. I've played with Settings>Sound&Notification until I'm blue in the face. Ring volume is on full. Power off and on again and it's back to 0.
Every AMOLED phone I've had has a high brightness mode. I can only presume the 6P does as well. How to enable it?

I don't know what happened but Google maps and Google now think I am on the other side of the country. I am in Ohio and it is showing my location as in a neighborhood in Salt Lake city, Utah. I have turned location, WiFi and GPS on and off. Also I have turned the phone on and off. I am on T-Mobile and my other phones location is correct.

1. GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this lets Google use any of these to find your location even if Wi-Fi or location is turned off. When this is switched on, you'll often find Google Play Services is one of the biggest issues.
2. Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this disables the GPS chip inside your Galaxy S6 Edge and is probably the least useful of the three options. Relying on just mobile networks and Wi-Fi will allow you to find your location quickly but will then use a lot of data and battery as it relies on your Wi-Fi and mobile networks to keep track of your location.
3. GPS only - this is actually the mode I use as it prevents Google scanning in the background (more on that below). It has its pitfalls in that it can take a while to find your location but the battery savings from not having Google scanning are plentiful.
We know that option 1 and 2 could lead to extreme battery drain because Google uses the location manager and wake up the device. When you attempt to turn on either the first or the second option, you're greeted with a prompt from Google to "Improve location accuracy". The option means that anonymous location data can sporadically be sent to Google even when no apps are running, and as a result, this can have a large impact on your battery life, especially when using Google Now or widgets that depend on location. If I choose one of these options I do not see the dialog anymore. Maybe I accidentally clicked "don' t show again".
How can I get the dialog back? When I enable the locations, it is always set to option 1, even if I had 3 the last time.
My Nexus 5 has marshmallow and since then whenever I go to download an apk from the Internet I get a message across the bottom saying cannot download to the specified location. Security is set to allow third party downloads etc.

When running Quick System Info PRO, I see that "system_server - BluetoothPhoneService" is constantly consuming anywhere from 15-60% cpu, usually 20-30%. I have tried restoring all the Google factory ROMs one by one, starting with 5.0 (LRX21O) up to 5.1.1 (LMY48I), yet the issue persists. Toggling Bluetooth doesn't work and Bluetooth functions normally when needed, but is usually kept off.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo as the subject says, somehow my internal storage moved to a different location in my phone. It moved from storage/emulated/0 to data/media/0 somehow. I don't know how but now my apps and file managers are unable to access my internal storage and I am unable to download anything from my browser. My nexus 5 is rooted with Android 6.0 and has experimentalx kernel with xposed. Other than that, my nexus 5 is stock. I tried using root browser and solid browser to move my internal storage back to the correct place but that just gives me an error. I also tried using Android commander to move my storage using my pc but it's giving me permission denied. So I don't know what to do.

Today I turn my GPS constantly back on but on battery saving mode. Have it when I use Google Maps and 17 high accuracy. Any way to add a shortcut to the home screen to quickly toggle this GPS location based settings so I don't have to go into the main menu settings and talk to it that way?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI use to keep the WiFi Scanning for location services on before Lollipop. Since Lollipop, if it is on, WiFi is ALWAYS scanning killing my battery within the hour. So I turned it off hoping that the Marshmallow update(s) would fix this. I'm on 6.0.1 and the issue is still here. It's kind of annoying turning on WiFi just for my GPS to lock on accurately. If so what fixed your phone.? I've done cache clearing, in the phone menu itself and through recovery to no avail.

But, currently I'm no longer living there but It still detects Malaysia as my country. For a while, even Google Now thought I was a tourist when I came back to my home country but after reformatting I can no longer use Google Now since, it's not available in here. However, the store is still set to Malaysian Playstore. I do not wish to change this because my country playstore is really boring and dull. Almost every single popular app is not available, including stuffs like Viber and Clash of Clans which are widely used apps here. I reset my iPhone to factory settings and all went well. However, before I did so, I forgot that I had put it in airplane mode and didn't switch it out. Airplane mode is still on and there's no way to get it out. What's the big deal? Well it's trying to reactivate my phone and it won't activate it without the antennas on...and I can't get to the Settings to disable Airplane mode because it's in that iOS 5 initial set up. I can't get past it at all to?How can I get this Airplane mode disabled so it can activate? I tried activating through iTunes and it didn't work. It is not jailbroken or anything.

When i press start, it just starts in safe mode. tried to shut down and start again (both by pressing power off by touch screen and holding the off button down). Did get to the menu that offers factory reboot and the like, but again, couldn't select anything with the volume button.

View 3 Replies View RelatedA colleague of mine (yes honestly it wasnt me) reported that his Nexus 5 was stuck with as he put it "the wee android man in the middle of the screen" Then, before he give the phone to me to look at he said that he had tried some things with images to get it to work but it didnt work. so truthfully i am not sure what he has done or not done but the phone is stuck as follows:
When you turn the phone on you have the android robot which looks like it is doing an update.
I have gone into bootloader where I have the option to Start, Recovery Mode, Restart Bootloader and Power Off. The lock state in the Fastboot mode shows unlocked.
No matter which option you take (Even Recovery) it just goes back to the android screen that looks like it is trying to update....i cant get to the android with the exclamation mark that would allow me to do a factory reset. At this stage of the game im not worried about any lost data etc.
I'd love to enable the diagnostic mode in my Nexus 5 so that I can trace the radio interface with software such as QXDM, X-CAL, etc... but I've had no luck so far.
basically I'm trying to change the variable sys.usb.config to [diag,adb] as shown in this post for the Nexus 4. I'm doing:
(if you run getprop you see that the correct order is sys.usb, not usb.sys as shown in that post)
However, when I enter this command the phone automatically reboots... and the value is reverted back to [mtp,adb].
Do you know of any 'friendlier' way to enable diag mode on the Nexus 5? For example, in the Galaxy S4 you can just dial *#0808# to get into the USB config menu, which easily allows you choose the DM mode... but I can't find a similar menu on the Nexus 5.
Seems a bit absurd to me that a developer-oriented phone is the hardest one to put in diag mode... I am rooted...
