I have not been able to use any tracking apps with my phone. I have the GPS on and set to high accuracy mode. The maps app pre-installed on the phone sometimes show the location several streets away. Which tracking apps are you using?
View 9 RepliesJust got a nexus 5. I switched the location settings to battery saver but if I turn off location it defaults back to high accuracy mode when I turn it back on which drains my battery quickly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedFor the past week I've been running in high accuracy location mode because, for one I wanted to see if battery saving mode really saved much battery, and, also when I do need gps it's already on. I found that any difference in battery drain is negligible because gps is almost never on unless I'm specifically using it. Also if I have a phone with certain capabilities I want to utilize those capabilities. And what you've found as far as battery drain.

1. GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this lets Google use any of these to find your location even if Wi-Fi or location is turned off. When this is switched on, you'll often find Google Play Services is one of the biggest issues.
2. Wi-Fi and mobile networks - this disables the GPS chip inside your Galaxy S6 Edge and is probably the least useful of the three options. Relying on just mobile networks and Wi-Fi will allow you to find your location quickly but will then use a lot of data and battery as it relies on your Wi-Fi and mobile networks to keep track of your location.
3. GPS only - this is actually the mode I use as it prevents Google scanning in the background (more on that below). It has its pitfalls in that it can take a while to find your location but the battery savings from not having Google scanning are plentiful.
We know that option 1 and 2 could lead to extreme battery drain because Google uses the location manager and wake up the device. When you attempt to turn on either the first or the second option, you're greeted with a prompt from Google to "Improve location accuracy". The option means that anonymous location data can sporadically be sent to Google even when no apps are running, and as a result, this can have a large impact on your battery life, especially when using Google Now or widgets that depend on location. If I choose one of these options I do not see the dialog anymore. Maybe I accidentally clicked "don' t show again".
How can I get the dialog back? When I enable the locations, it is always set to option 1, even if I had 3 the last time.

I've gotten a number of high cpu usge notifications in the notification bar, but when I open up the task manager to see what is running amuck, the total displayed cpu usage looks small. how to track down the culprit? No new apps, but lots of updates recently, and I really don't want to start randomly deleting apps till I find the one causing this (I've got about 100 apps installed, of which I use probably 10-15 on a daily basis) As a side note my extended battery lost 50% of it's power while plugged into a computer via usb in 3 hours... That has never happened, the computer usb charger has always been more than enough to stop any power drain (while streaming pandora, and connected to bluetooth headphones).

Do I have a bad battery or is there a setting or application on that is draining the battery? Battery shows 46% battery usage by cell phone.

I just put my my m8 for fun on high performance mode and the difference is so big I'm leaving it here. Its fantastic.
Smooth with no pauses or lag. Does not even seem to get hot. Can any damage be done?
I also turned off the animations as well which could also contribute to the speed feeling really fast. My battery does not appear to be draining much faster.
I've had my Moto X for a couple of weeks and have noticed that it seems to drain battery strangely quickly when in Airplane mode and with the screen turned off. I leave my phone in this state while at work.
This morning, I put my phone away for over 3.5 hours in this state. After this 3.5 hours with screen off and airplane mode on, the battery had drained from 100% to 92%. The only 2 entries in the battery use screen were Phone Idle (1%) and Google Services (1% with a couple minutes of GPS and CPU usage which probably accounts for the amount of time it took for me to walk from my car to the office). See attached screenshots for details.
It seems like 8% of battery use over 3.5 hours in airplane mode with almost 0 screen on time is kind of excessive, particularly as no app or service reports using much battery use at all. How to fix or diagnose this? I've used wakelock detecting apps in the past but they've been kind of neutered since Kit Kat and I don't want to root my X to get proper stats.
I have an iPad2 w/3G. While maps seems to know the coordinates of my current locatiion it will not/cannot show them as a flashing circle. Strangely the yelp app can. Does not matter if I'm on wifi or data.

I am wondering if anybody else is having the following issue with the Ovi Maps:Say that I need to walk to a certain destination.I first go to Find Places and I type the name of the street which is my destination. However, in most of the cases the answer is "No result found offline".I have to mention that I have downloaded the England maps on the phone.
To be honest this is very annoying as it seems the application is not able to recognize any of the destinations I am interest in (for example, as I live in London and I want to drive to B&Q in Beckton, there is no way for me to find the B&Q's address with the OVi Maps).So, I am just left with the option to look where the store is located on my computer and then manually navigate on the Ovi Map and set that point as destination.
I own nokia 5233 and have gone through the manual.In the manual, under Antenna locations, it shows GPS antenna but the phone doesn't show me my location in OVI maps. Even if I keep my phone away from buildings, trees for about 15-20 minutes..
View 5 Replies View RelatedI misplaced my phone (LG G3) on 06/28, and the battery level was very low the last time I had it, so it surely powered down shortly after I lost it. I have been checking Android Device Manager periodically in case it is powered on, and the last search showed that the phone is currently unavailable, but the last online date changed to 07/01...it doesn't say where the phone was when it was powered on on this date though, so I am wondering if there is a way to find this out.

If it will not show up in DFU mode in ITunes, then I am unable to jailbreak it with redsnow because it can not see it. ITunes sees my phone when I am not in DFU mode but as soon as I go into DFU, it disappears and then the sound on the computer sounds like it is going to see it again but it never shows up in ITunes. In camera mode (both video and camera) sometime the screen shows soft black wave running from top to bottom (for more understanding about "black wave" just like when you focus the camera on TV screen). However I didn't focus my camera on TV screen anymore. The problem last for 1-5 minutes. When this problem occurred If I go on and take a photo sometime the wave could be captured into my photo as well but mostly these running black wave can not be captured into the photo.
