Google Nexus 5 :: SIM Card Not Recognised After Battery Swap Out
Aug 14, 2015
MY Nexus 5 suffered a battery failure recently. I have managed to replace that and all good with respect to that. However, since then I am unable to get my phone to recognise the SIM. The SIM was working fine but now I can't connect to my network (Tesco), It seems to recognise the SIM as it states - "No Service - Tesco" in the status panel at the top of the screen. The phone is well out of warranty and was bought directly from CarphoneWarehouse.
I've tried my wife's micro SIM in the Nexus and no luck there either. Further, I've tried my SIM in another old phone and it works fine. Finally, I've resorted to having a new SIM sent out by Tesco and tried that .... and still no luck.
I've tried a factory reset a few times and inserted the SIM with the phone switched off ....

Yesterday I did an update to several programs including Google and noticed major battery drain. I was not sure which program did it but checked Battery in Settings and saw it was the screen causing the drain. Apparently when the Google program updated, it changed the setting for automatic brightness adjustment to ON. I turned it off and the battery is fine. I keep brightness set to about one quarter to one third brightness. I think the battery life is great and I can easily get thru the day.

Ever since the android 6 update I have noticed that Google play services is always top of my battery drain stats.
Also the mobile radio active figure is always going up and up!
I do have a android wear device synced but I always have and never noticed this is lollipop.
What could be causing this? I don't have Google now or location services on ...

about 3 weeks ago I had the problem of formatting my sd card, because BB just kept telling me no card inserted etc. So I did that, I hooked up my bb on my pc, and start formatting it via windows.bout 2 days ago, I've experienced the same problemen, it started with whatsapp saying no mediacard inserted, but the difference is now I can't even format it, because bb isn't saying anything about formatting my card when I insert it, and neither my pc can locate my blackberry when plugged in.I bought a new 4GB SDHC card , but still not working

Nexus 5, 16GB, MRA58N (stock, not rooted). Sometimes the power percentages shown for each process in the battery monitor do not add up to the total battery drain? I am finding that sometimes they add up to within 1% of the total shown.... and sometimes they are WAY off with as much as 30% of the displayed battery drain unaccounted for. Since I don''t have access to the battery terminals, I can't determine independently whether the percentages shown are simply inaccurate, or whether there are missing processes (ie., processes not shown at all in the battery monitor).

I upgraded the memory micro-card within the Torch 9800 from 4GB to 16GB. The handset recognises the increase(under Device/Storage) , but the media synching mechanism won't recognise any more than 4GBReloaded the software, but the software still only recognises a 4GB maximum.

I'm pretty new to this whole wireless/smartphone business, so forgive me if this question seems daft.
Say I were to buy an iPhone 4 for full price from Telus (my local, Canadian provider), could I use this phone internationally, say in Britain on a different network? Not just through roaming, but through sim card swap so I wouldnt be going through Telus whatsoever.

I'll be selling my new 3GS (hopefully for $400) and buying a iPhone 4. When I did this with the 3G to 3GS, I just swapped SIM cards in the iPhone at an AT&T store. With the iPhone 4 using a smaller SIM card, how is that going to work? Hopefully I'll sell my iPhone 3GS this week and then I'll be waiting for a couple of weeks for the iPhone 4.

My Bold 9700 is not recognising the contact name for SMS messages properly. But it is a different problem to what others have described. When I receive a message, it shows the contact's name correctly (which was the problem others had I think). But then if I turn off the bb and remove the battery, then replace it and turn the phone back on, none of the SMS messages have the proper contact names - it just shows either their phone number, or their name if I have them stored on my SIM. What's more, this problem only occurs if the contact's phone number is stored with spaces and brackets in it [ie, +64 (21) xxx xxx].
I realise I could go through and add everyone to my SIM card or remove the brackets and spaces from contacts' phone numbers but
a) this wasn't a problem before (on 8310 and 8520) so should be able to be fixed
b) my SIM card wont fit all my contacts anyway
c) phone numbers are hard to read without spaces and brackets
d) it's such a waste of time!
My software version is 5.0.0.344 (which is actually later than what I can download!)

Currently I have a 2GB memory card on my E63 (latest firmware), which has 3 'paid-for' applications and several free downloaded applications, loads of mp3s etc. I have purchased a 4GB memory card already, and would like to "do something" that would help me retain the entire contents of the current 2GB memory card, onto the 4GB memory card, s.t. apart from extra file space (which I plan to use for photos, videos, music), all other applications and current content remain available on the new card, w/o any other impact. I believe that backing up and restoring via 'Nokia PC Suite' won't save my apps, and only some of the data. E.g. it won't save the eBooks I have.

Brand new to this forum. I've had a Curve 8900 for two years without a problem. Everything works OK. I've just got a new Curve (Same model) - but when I swap over the SIM card the Email is not configured. The phone and messaging work fine but if I try and send an Email it says "No message services configured. You will be redirected to setup wizzardto set up your Email account" then it says "No message services configured, you will only be able to save to draft".But if a I swap averything back to my old phone it all works fine - no problem. What am I doing wrong or what do I have to do to get my Emails working on the new phone Thanks in advance.

Yesterday I replaced my SD Card from a San disk 32GB to a Sandisk 64GB for use with my Nokia Lumia 1520. Before I done that, I copied like for like the directories on the 32GB card to the 64GB card. Everything is there but its does not recognized my apps and i have to uninstall it the re-install it. Only apps installed on the phone are still there. Also my photos are there in the file manager but they don't come up in the Main Photo Gallery.

I have been getting pretty good battery life, but was wondering if I should be using 3G or LTE on the N5. I know the N5 has envelope tracking, but does that really work? I have looked around and there isn't much info about this. There is quite a bit of info for other phones, but almost nothing for the N5.
I usually get an LTE signal of one to two bars; around 98 to 110 dBm and 30 to 40 asu. 3G varies from two to four full bars; 85 to 100 dBm and around 10 asu. This is at my home on AT&T. I'm almost always connected to WiFi, though.Battery life has been pretty good. Usually around three to four hours of screen on time from 100% to 30%, with some standby time.

I have not had occasion to seek directions for travel using my Nexus 5 before. Today I needed directions and used Google Maps for no more than 5 minutes. The device became very hot. After I shut down the directions I looked at the battery information on the app battery notifier BT free. It said discharging, temp/health 118F/overheat. I was taken by surprise. Should I have expected that much heat from using Google Maps directions for such a short time?

I purchased a second hand nexus 5 to find out that the battery indicator is always showing 42% and never updates, regardless of the actual battery charge level. I tried replacing the battery with the one from my brother`s nexus 5, then replaced the usb port board. Also tried:
- rooting
- installing twrp 2.8.7.1
- elemenalX 6.0 kernel
- Android 6.0.1
- Cache and dalvik wipe
- Use the battery until phone shuts down
Although the indicator jumped to 83% and to 54% after some actions which I dont remember. Maybe after cache wipe, not sure.

I'm having a very frustrated issue with my Nexus 5 d820. The battery indicator suddenly stuck -for days- on random numbers like 93%, 88% but most of the time it's stuck on 100%. It does recognizes that I'm charging, but the values aren't changing.
Things I've tried:
Installing a third party battery monitors like Gsam A complete drain, complete charge.
Replacing the Battery to a new one
Wipe to Factory / Wipe Cache
Install a brand new rom using fastboot
Install TWRP, Root

I have installed Android 6.0 few weeks ago. Since last week I have noticed some weird behaviour. While discharging, when the battery is about 40%, my Nexus 5 turns off immediately. Then, when I am trying to turn it on, I got a low battery warning and can't turn it on. When I connect it to the charger and turn it on, the battery indicator shows about 15-20%.Is my battery going to die? It looks normal, not swollen. I tried reinstalling Marshmallow (with wipe) but it didn't work. When reinstalling system, I noticed an other problem. Stock recovery doesn't work. After flashing it with
Code:
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
I have only the laying android and red triangle picture. TWRP works when flashed the same way. But it disappears after reboot!

In the last week my 32Gb Nexus 5 has started to drain the battery quickly about 6-8 hours after I pull it off the charger. I'll suddenly notice that it is feeling warm, check, and find the temperature about 15F higher than normal. Checking the battery stats indicates that it is stuck awake just sitting in my pocket not being used. GSAM indicates that the CPU time seems to be being eaten by Android System and maybe Kernel. Restarting the device clears the problem, at least until the next day.
This was happening with 5.0.2 and continues since I updated OTA to 5.1. I am not rooted. I upgraded to 5.0.2 for 4.4.4 via OTA.
I'm not sure if the answer is to do a factory reset and reload or not. If I do that should I allow it to restore apps and settings or should I manually restore my apps and data? I am concerned I may restore the problem again.

I just switched over to Android from my iPhone 5, and while I love the OS, the battery life on this thing is pretty atrocious. I'm not sure if I'm just spoiled from my time with the iPhone, or if I have a defective unit, but even after performing a factory reset, my battery life appears to be draining about 1% every 1 minute during fairly normal usage (no streaming, processor intensive apps, etc). On top of this, over the past two nights, I have woken up to find my battery has been drained by ~20% by just sitting on my nightstand.
After the factory reset, the only app I reinstalled was Facebook, so I'm pretty much ruling out any apps as the culprit here. I know there have a been many articles/threads about specific functionality you can disable to maximize battery life - and believe me I have tried some to no avail - yet I am pretty against the notion that I need to essentially disable the functionality of my phone to get respectable performance out of the unit.
I'm talking to Google support right now but thought I'd post here as well to see if 1) other people have been experiencing issues like these and 2) if there is anything I am overlooking here that might be the source of the issue.
