IPhone :: Using 4 Internationally - Possible Through Sim Card Swap?
Aug 31, 2010
I'm pretty new to this whole wireless/smartphone business, so forgive me if this question seems daft.
Say I were to buy an iPhone 4 for full price from Telus (my local, Canadian provider), could I use this phone internationally, say in Britain on a different network? Not just through roaming, but through sim card swap so I wouldnt be going through Telus whatsoever.
I'll be selling my new 3GS (hopefully for $400) and buying a iPhone 4. When I did this with the 3G to 3GS, I just swapped SIM cards in the iPhone at an AT&T store. With the iPhone 4 using a smaller SIM card, how is that going to work? Hopefully I'll sell my iPhone 3GS this week and then I'll be waiting for a couple of weeks for the iPhone 4.
Currently I have a 2GB memory card on my E63 (latest firmware), which has 3 'paid-for' applications and several free downloaded applications, loads of mp3s etc. I have purchased a 4GB memory card already, and would like to "do something" that would help me retain the entire contents of the current 2GB memory card, onto the 4GB memory card, s.t. apart from extra file space (which I plan to use for photos, videos, music), all other applications and current content remain available on the new card, w/o any other impact. I believe that backing up and restoring via 'Nokia PC Suite' won't save my apps, and only some of the data. E.g. it won't save the eBooks I have.
Brand new to this forum. I've had a Curve 8900 for two years without a problem. Everything works OK. I've just got a new Curve (Same model) - but when I swap over the SIM card the Email is not configured. The phone and messaging work fine but if I try and send an Email it says "No message services configured. You will be redirected to setup wizzardto set up your Email account" then it says "No message services configured, you will only be able to save to draft".But if a I swap averything back to my old phone it all works fine - no problem. What am I doing wrong or what do I have to do to get my Emails working on the new phone Thanks in advance.
Yesterday I replaced my SD Card from a San disk 32GB to a Sandisk 64GB for use with my Nokia Lumia 1520. Before I done that, I copied like for like the directories on the 32GB card to the 64GB card. Everything is there but its does not recognized my apps and i have to uninstall it the re-install it. Only apps installed on the phone are still there. Also my photos are there in the file manager but they don't come up in the Main Photo Gallery.
MY Nexus 5 suffered a battery failure recently. I have managed to replace that and all good with respect to that. However, since then I am unable to get my phone to recognise the SIM. The SIM was working fine but now I can't connect to my network (Tesco), It seems to recognise the SIM as it states - "No Service - Tesco" in the status panel at the top of the screen. The phone is well out of warranty and was bought directly from CarphoneWarehouse.
I've tried my wife's micro SIM in the Nexus and no luck there either. Further, I've tried my SIM in another old phone and it works fine. Finally, I've resorted to having a new SIM sent out by Tesco and tried that .... and still no luck.
I've tried a factory reset a few times and inserted the SIM with the phone switched off ....
I've talked to people from AT&T and gotten conflicting answers. I am traveling to France with my wife. We both have the iPhone 3G. We want to be able to call and possibly text each other. We do not need any other data access at all.I know "data roaming" needs to be turned off. What about "cellular data"? On or off? What's the difference does it make if "cellular data" is on or off if "data roaming" remains off? Will I be able to send iMessages through a wi-fi connection with "cellular data" off? Will I be able to send regular text messages through a wi-fi connection with "cellular data" off? Will I be able to connect to the internet through a wi-fi connection with "cellular data" off? And none of the settings "enable 3G," "cellular data," or "data roaming" have any effect on voice calls, right?
Quickly I'm trying to text internationally. I got the iphone specifically for that reason. I'm trying to text specifically to Colombia. Question: do I need country codes and city codes? How do I go about doing it?
My husband is in China and we got a small int'l texting plan (AT&T) to use while he's there, but he's unable to send or receive texts. He gets the red exclamation point when he tries. Data roaming is turned off and so is cellular data. It's an iPhone 4.
I just got an iPhone 4S on Saturday, so forgive me if this is a n00b question. How much would it cost, if anything, to make an international call with Facetime? I live in the US and a friend of mine lives in the UK. We both have iPhones and we can text with iMessage, but I wasn't sure if it'd also be free to use Facetime to do it as well.
Is it possible to get microsim cards for wireless phone/data service internationally (europe, middle east, asia) currently? I am thinking of getting the iphone 4 but need it to work internationally (non-ATT)
We are on AT&T family plan and we have my 3gs and a 2g on the plan. I have my old 3g laying around. Can I just swap the sims and change the data plan through OLAM??
I am buying my friend's 3Gs iphone, and I have already a 3G. Can I simply swap my sim card into her old phone, and continue using my current plan and number through AT&T, or do I have to call AT&T to do any activating of this new phone?(her old one)I'm hoping I don't have to call them at all (what a hassle). Can anyone let me know of their experiences doing this and if that is all there is to it or is there more?
I apologize for a very elementary question in advance. I purchased an iPhone 4, but my wife wanted to hold out for a white one.In the meantime, she updated her 3G to ios4.01, which was a HUGE mistake. All apps crash, many work but act strangely.I still have my old 3G, which I think I did update to ios 4, but which continued to work fine.Is it possible for us to have AT&T swap numbers between the handsets, so that she can use my old 3G? If that's possible it would be like rolling her present phone back to the previous OS, which worked OK.Is this a feasible idea. Thanks in advance for any advice.
I had this issue 4 days ago. I have an IPhone 4s that is still well within the one year warranty. Under this warranty you should be able to receive a replacement set of the iPhone headphones if something stops working. In my case my microphone on my headphones stopped working, so I went into an apple store, met with a technician and traided out my iPhone headphones for what I though was a replacement pair of iPhone headphones. When I returned home I found that the headphones I was given were iPod headphones without the microphone or controls.
I currently have a White iPhone 4S 16GB, at the time I purchased it through Verizon they had told me that I had to get the White version since the Black version was still out of stock. I figured that I can use the 14 day guarantee to my advantage so that when the Black version came back into stock I could just swap it out, well that wasn't the case at all since it didnt come back into stock in that time frame. So I'm stuck with a White iPhone at the moment when I really just want the Black iPhone. I spoke with Verizon and they informed me that there was nothing else that they could do but that it was possible to bring my iPhone into a store and see if they would be willing to exchange it for the Black iPhone. Before I went into Apple and testing this theory out, does anyone here know if this is a plausible solution or am I basically just stuck with the iPhone that I have?
I have two phones, one that I need to send back to apple and its replacement. I did a clean JB install on the new phone. I was wrongly under the impression that ANY restore, even from a backup, would kill the JB. so I saved my contacts, calendar, call history, and texting, files from the old phone to my desktop via SSH (ifunbox). Then I “ported” those saved files onto the new phone. Later I discovered that the phone app would not open, just kept crashing. While I could not open the phone app, I was able to receive calls, however, I had no phone tools like speaker phone or mute. I replaced the contact and call history files again (copied from the old phone) and that fixed the problem, although the contacts are now sorted by last name instead of first name which kinds sucks... Now I discovered that the messaging app crashes when I hit send. It will open fine, and it has all my texts in it, but crashes when I hit send. I just had a friend text me and I did not get the text.
Here is what I think I did wrong: I think, although I cannot be certain, that I may have put the files into the wrong directory. That is, I may have put them into var/mobile/library instead of private/var/mobile/library. The messaging app still works in the old phone, albeit without a sim card in it. I suppose I should just copy both these files again from the old phone and put them onto the new one, but since I am new at this, and do not have my ECID stored on cydia, I need to be VERY careful not to screw things up AGAIN lol or it will be 3.1.3 for me . So I need someone experienced to tell me how to best proceed??
I've read through the excellent iPhone Upgrade Guide, and discovered the "upgrade swap" process and now I'm wondering if I can take advantage of it..My son and I are on a family plan, we both have iPhone 3GS's and since his line is the "main" line on our account, he's eligible to get a new iPhone 4 at the $299 price right now ..
My line is the secondary line and checking via https://buyiphone.apple.com/WebObjec...adeEligibility for my line shows my price for an iPhone 4 would be $699 before Dec 20, 2010 and $499 after Dec 20, 2010
My folks have an entirely separate account and they have their own famliy plan, checking my dad's line, he's eligible to get a new iPhone 4 at the $299 price right now; my mom's line is eligible for an iPhone 4 for $499 before May 21, 2011 and $299 after May 21, 2011.Anyway, reading through the upgrade guide, the upgrade swap asks "Can I use someone else's upgrade? Yes, this is called an "upgrade swap""
I've read through a ton of threads here about upgrade swap, but it seems everyone is talking about the "someone else" being an additional line on their existing account.Has anyone done an upgrade swap using a person/line that isn't on their own account? and if so, how easy or hard is what I'm asking?I'm not sure if I'm reading too much or too little into the upgrade swap section of the upgrade guide..
I had my previous Torch replaced due to fault, since then despite all other functions operating correctly I cannot BBM my family in Canada (on the old torch it was fine)> Local BBMs are OK.
I am on the same contract as before I have contacted Orange but to no avail.
I used SSH to connect to my phone and swap fonts manually. I renamed Helvetica.ttf to HelveticaOLD.ttf and then dropped in the new font whose name was ALSO Helvetica.ttf.However, the system font hasn't changed. I thought It may have not transferred correctly, so I did it again and it still didn't work.So just to be sure I downloaded the font to my desktop from my phone and it shows the correct font in the preview. What am I doing wrong?
I'm the "Proud" owner of an N97 that's from the batch with Camera Lens Cover problems.I've bought it from HONG KONG and now, in Romania I want to fix it using my warranty, but I CAN'T, even if it's NOKIA'S FAULT MY CAMERA DOESN'T WORK. I have to pay 50 Euros for a Nokia service to change my cover.WHAT IS THE INTERNATIONAL WARRANTY IF I CAN'T USE IT INTERNATIONALLY ?
I have a 9360 with OS7 firmware. I took the SIM out of this phone to use in another one (I'm a software tester). When I returned the SIM to the 9360 and restarted it I'm presented with the forced Blackberry ID login screen.
Here's the problem, the radio has been switched off. But now I'm locked out, so I can't turn the radio on. I can put in my BB ID password all day and it doesn't matter because I don't have a connection!
How do I turn the radio on so I can get past this absurd login (btw, awesome QA on this RIM, why is the radio off while attempting a forced login? I absolutely refuse to wipe my device.
I recently decided that i want to try out the 3D sweap i had a great spot to do that so yeah. But what i disliked i couldnot view the picture in 3D on the phone it is just 2D pic.I hoped for swapping through photo from one side to other and so creating 3D feel.Maybe someone knows program that can do that on win7 normal lcd screen?
