View 2 RepliesI'm just starting to have this issue as when my wifi is turned off I have no data service however I can only make and receive calls. I notice the signal for my reception bar is full however I it doesn't say 4g or anything at all next to it. I restarted the phone, drove to different locations same issue. I think this started from yesterday. I also checked my mobile data setting, seems to be set correctly and it's on. Attach is a photo of signal and no data works.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm currently overseas trying to get data to work on my unlocked/unrooted S5. I'm able to use a Jamaica Digicel chip in my phone to make and receive calls and text, but can't connect to data, unless using wifi.

I have both wifi and mobile date turned and my Verizon galaxy s5 with lollipop turns my data on and starts to perform an update. I go to my quick data button and it shows that data is off, but on the top of the phone it shows data is on. The only way to stop the download is to turn on airplane mode.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy first smartphone is a Galaxy S5 and I use ATT as my provider.I have had the phone since it came out and for the first few months I was using low data. ATT called me and recommend I downgrade my data plan. I followed their advice and downgraded. Anyway, about three months ago my data usage that counts on my bill went through the roof. I haven't changed anything that I am aware.
I called ATT and they told me that Data usage counting on my bill will always take precedent over WIFI when I am connected to WIFI (like in my house). As an example if I watch a movie or listen to the radio with my smartphone at my house with my WIFI connected, then my data usage used for these services will count on my bill.
Do I automatically have to disable my mobile data everytime I connect to a WIFI in order NOT to be charged? I assumed that WIFI took precedent and that as long as WIFI was connected then the data used wouldn't count on my bill. If this is true, then is there anyway to have my phone automatically disconnect when I am connected to WiFi?
I'm wondering if using Wifi (while cell data turned on) uses more than cell data (with wifi off) alone.
View 2 Replies View RelatedAt one time there was a place to check if wifi was bad, data would click on. Can't find it. Using att. Where I could find it? Or if it's gone after last update?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI know this seems backwards but I have a very good reason. my cellular data is unlimited and my jetpack Mobil wifi from another service is not. I keep both on while driving to enable consistent Internet for Internet radio for instance.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried multiple wifi connections and my s6 will connect to them but when connected nothing that requires data loads at all and as soon as I'm off wifi my phone will load everything using mobile data. I've only had the phone a few days and have used almost 3 gigs of data!
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy wifi is connected, shows great signal strength, yet it doesn't work? Anything I try doesn't work, FB, Chrome, any app that uses internet connection.. I don't get what's going on... I did remove the WIFI info and forget it, then reconnect... that doesn't work. The only thing that fixes it, is if I restart my phone.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a SM-G900F (no carrier) European S5, bought like a couple months ago, not rooted or installed any custom rom, full stock on 5.0.
When I enable Mobile Hotspot or share the connection through USB, the other devices connect just fine, but no data is received at all.
* Tested with both a laptop and another phone
* To rule out carrier restrictions, I put the SIM in a Nexus4 and enabled Wifi tethering, then connected to it with the S5, works np, just not the other way around.
basically my phone is not connecting to mobile data after wi-fi connection is lost or manually disconnected. This is not always happening but once it happens the only way to bring back mobile data is by restarting the phone or manually toggling mobile data on and off in settings. Once it connects to mobile data it'll work for a while but then after being connected on WI-FI for a while it won't go back to mobile data on its own.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAT&T and iPhone data use charges - WiFi and cellular link options Many people have complained about unusual data usage charges on their AT&T iPhone bills -- often 10s of megabytes in one transaction, posted in the middle of the night. Here are a couple of updates based on the AT&T support portal: WiFi vs cellular link: Connecting to a local WiFi hotspot and turning off your cellular data connection will block cellular data transmission and related charges. (Except for SMS messages, which are very small.) There are some gotchas, however: (a) If your iPhone goes 'to sleep' (the screen goes black), it will revert to the cellular data link, unless it is plugged into a charger. (b) Even if your iPhone is plugged into a charger, it will revert to a cellular data connection if the WiFi link drops, e.g. due to a momentary glitch with your internet provider or electric power supply, so.... (c) The only way to completely ensure that your iPhone will not revert to a cellular data connection is to turn it completely off. You (obviously) will not be able to receive calls, however.
Large data transactions in the middle of the night: Unusually large 'chunks' of data that are apparently sent around midnight are a related issue. You may think that you could avoid these mystery charges by making sure you have a WiFi connection running at night. A number of 'czars' on AT&T's site stated, however, that this is are simply an artifact of AT&T's billing system, which "aggregates" transactions that occur throughout the day into one summary charge, which is posted in the middle of the night. If this is accurate, the data connection(s) you use throughout the day will determine how large this 'summary' transaction will be.
Note: Our bill does not appear to square with AT&T's explanation. For example:
39 04/06/2012 09:36PM phone Data Transfer 7 KB 0.0040 04/06/2012 10:35PM phone Data Transfer 7 KB 0.0041 04/06/2012 10:41PM phone Data Transfer 369,759 KB 30.00
If all of the data from 6 April was 'rolled up' into the massive 369.8 megabyte transaction at 10:41pm, why are there two small transactions at 9:36pm and 10:35? We installed Onavo to try to get to the bottom of this;; I will post the results at the end of the current billing cycle.

When I go into my "Storage" settings, I have the option to clear my cache with one click. I'd like to use this function to clear off my cached browsing, imgur, etc., but my concern is my games.
1) If I clear the cache, will I lose my saved game data?
2) Will I lose any settings for any apps?

View 1 Replies View Related i have a galaxy s6 through Bell and it is completely stock and i have not modified it in any way. i am having an issue where some apps, but not others, will not download data unless i am on wifi. i do have some apps that have background data restricted but i am having issues when the apps are in the foreground and are actively being used. i have checked to make sure that there are no data limits or restrictions blocking data, i have full lte signal and i have tried toggling between lte and 3g with the same results.
i have used the phone for 5 weeks at least and for the first 3 weeks all was good until this issue crept up and i had to do a hard reset. i started from scratch and reset the phone and all was good for another 2 weeks and now it is an issue again. as an example, i open the play store app and it loads up the icons and i can use lte and load all info and pics, etc, but when i try to download a new app or update an existing one it will indicate that it is trying to download but nothing happens. i can switch to the browser and it will open pages but when i switch back to the play store it says that background data is disabled when it is actually not.
today i have also had issues with google music where it will allow me to play radio stations over lte just fine sometimes and other times the icons will be greyed out and it will not allow the radio stream to open unless i switch to wifi. the settings are set up to allow me to stream over data, etc so it should be working.i have had many android devices in the past and am usually able to figure this stuff out but i am stumped on this one.
I know just connect the data cable to computer and transfer data but when i connect data cable to computer it does not show any thing on the computer and not even on the phone.so how should i make my phone able to transfer data to pc.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a new T-Mobile S6 Edge and love the phone, but one thing I have not figured out is why I still get background mobile data usage even though I have disabled mobile data and set "restrict background data". Both tuiService and OS services are downloading approximately 100K at a time periodically over mobile data throughout the day even though I have a wifi connection.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have noticed an issue with the Galaxy S5 that apparently only occurs with the Verizon variant. I work for a place called Wireless Advocates, we are the cell phone kiosk inside of Costco. I'm asking about this because I've had three customers come in to ask about this background data issue.
I'm not sure what triggers this issue but when I try opening up google play I get the "Background Data Disabled : Google Play Store Needs background data to be Enabled" error. It then gives you the ability to either quit or enable the data. If you press enable it takes you to the account screen in settings.
When I go to Data usage the option to "restrict background data" is greyed out. You can't even select it and it isn't checkmarked either. Just to clarify, accessing the internet and other things on the phone work perfectly fine. It's just the use of Google Play that is having issues. I called Samsung customer care and they aren't aware of this issue at all. Also note that force stopping google play, play services, removing the google accounts and adding them back and rebooting the phone haven't solved it. After the reboot the phone will appear fine and then a box that says "Restricting background data".
I had a 2 hour conversation with Bell Canada today about using WiFi without Data being turned on, they say you cannot use WiFi without Data being on. The reason I want this is I want to get my gmail emails, but not through Data unless I turn it on myself.
Is there a way to use WiFi all the time without Data being turned on? Then, if I am away from WiFi AND want my emails, I can turn data on myself.
I just got a Blackberry 9300 on contract with 750mb of data a month, I've switched data services and roaming off as I don't want to use this at home whilst I have wi-fi to use.But when I connected to wi-fi and tried to use the internet it wouldn't let me. . it said something like turn data services on. And then I noticed that my data usage started to go up. So basically my questions are 1) Why wouldn't it let me use just my wi-fi to browse internet and 2) Does using wi-fi take my monthly data usage up.
