BB Torch :: Convenience Key For Clock Settings?
Nov 3, 2011
I set my convenience key to the clock setting, and it's been working fine until today. Now the clock keeps randomly popping up even when I don't click the side key. I plugged in my phone to my laptop earlier today--could that have affected it somehow? I've tried a hard reset, and I've messed around with the convenience key settings. Nothing has worked--I'm just locking my phone and setting it off to the side for now.

I recently got a BB Torch 9860 phone. However the convenience key is not working. No matter to what option I set it to, it doesn't work. The default Camera also doesn't work. I have enabled the keytones on my phone. I hear the keytone whenever I press the convenience key. But nothing happens. My phone's running BB OS 7.0 bundle 2395.

My camera icon disappeared and the convenience key for the camera does not work anymore. The only way I can get the camera to come on is to go thru my media icon, click on pictures and then click on the camera. How do I get the camera icon back on the list at the home page and the convenience key to work again?

Welp got the torch and love it, was using a captivate and an aria for about 3 weeks, neat toys but sucked as phones so back to bb I went.My convience key will let me program it for any other function other than the camera, it will work the first time after resetting it to the camera option, but won't work the shutter. After closing it out and pressing the button again from the home screen or any other I get nothing?

Is there any way to customise the shortcuts built into the stock clock/weather widget? I like the look of it, but I'd prefer if clicking on the weather brought me to a different (i.e. better) weather app than the stock one.

I've had my Torch for about a month now. I have noticed that it hangs up alot to where a little black clock with white hands comes on alot and makes it slow. Why is this? I supposedly traded up from a Bold 9700 to this model but now I think it was a mistake?

I have a Torch 9800 - when I charge it up via the mini USB wall charger, it automatically switches to bedside mode and the clock comes on - I want the clock to appear like that when the backlight times out. I know this will be a battery drainer, but it will be very convenient to pull the phone out of my pocket to check the time - does anyone know of an app that will do this? I've checked several screensavers and they only work until the backlight times out

Yesterday I made a text messege and when I got together with the person I sent it to, and asked why they didn't bring what I asked them to, they told me they didn't get my text. Looking at my phone it still had the red clock symbol beside the text indicating it was still loading, or hadn't sent. I made the text nearly eight hours before meeting with this person.
After sending out a few more texts I notice every one of them has the red clock and they are not getting through. I also seem to not being getting texts at all. I tried taking out the battery but that didn't work.

I have a problem where the alarm going off makes the UI almost impossible. I have to keep tapping on the snooze or the disabling button until it finally takes my input, it is aggravating. Another one is that when I tap on the headphones, from the jack, the music switches to handset, I have to tap it a bit hard and at a certain point again to get it to switch back to headset. The headset jack problem got worse in an update with 6.0(later type of 6.0 version), so I reverted(maybe the first 6.0 version), but that doesn't fix the problem, still, but it is less aggravating than before.

my girlfriend recently purchased the torch 9810 and the clock on it keeps changing by itself. Mystery to me why but we've played with and changed all the clock settings including putting it onto manual time, auto on our time zone, entering the time itself, etc. but the stupid thing insists on changing the time by itself. This is one of a few problems we've had so far and our confidence is starting to drain in the blackberry phones.if only she'd of listened to me and had an iPhone.

I have set the calendar so that Sunday (in UAE) is the first working day of the week. When I select weekdays for the alarm it doesn't recognise this and doesn't go off on a Sunday. It still goes off on a Friday which is the weekend. So I have to remember to keep switching it on or off How can I change this setting?

My blackberry torch gets a small turning black clock looking icon in the middle of it. When this happens my phone is frozen. The "clock like" icon continues to turn. When this happens I can not do anything with it. I cannot even turn it off. I fixed it by taking out the battery.

First off, I returned my Torch because of software problems that I couldn't wait to be fixed; namely the BT streaming glitch. That said, I have noticed some commentary regarding the Torch processor speed that I see as seriously ignorant and wanted to provide some insight.Processing power is not a function of clock speed. Processing power is a function of the elegance of the instruction set, the design of the processor's peripheral registers and buses, and the programmer's competence. What does this mean? A very simple processor will have lots and lots of instructions that you can use to build the machine code. Also, a simple processor will have registers to accept instructions and registers to respond linearly to what was input, with no peripheral registers. Think of a box with a chute where something comes in and a chute of identical size where something comes out. In contrast, an elegant processor design will have very few instructions, will have peripheral registers, and require a much more intelligent programmer to utilize.
For this type of processor imagine a box with a chute where something comes in, a chute where something comes out, and chutes all around the sides of the box where specific products automatically come out that can be used to make something without more coming into the "input" chute. FYI, the elegant processor has fewer instructions because it already performs automatically many of the functions that require an instruction and extra clock cycle on simple processors.
A processor works by taking the product that comes out, storing it, waiting for more product to come out, then combining products to come up with usable data. Obviously the faster you pump out products, the faster you make something usable. But what if the elegant processor has products coming out the side chutes automatically, without being told by the programmer, that can be used to keep from having to input and output info over and over to come up with the same end product? Well, it can work more slowly and accomplish more in less time, because the design is sophisticated and the programmer knows how to instruct it. Think of the products coming out of the side chutes on a good processor as products that come out the end on simple processors. The simple processor needs extra instructions, and consequently extra clock cycles of output going to the input over and over, to make specific products come out that the elegant processor simply places on the side chutes without being asked. For this reason, good processors usually have fewer instructions to use.
Let's go back to the year 1997. You had Intel Pentium, AMD Athlon and Duron, and Motorola processors, in general. Intel has always had many instructions, few peripheral registers, and fast clock speeds. Motorola always had a very simple instruction set, peripheral registers, and relatively slow clock speeds. AMD fit in between. What did everyone buy? Well, of course Intel because Intel was faster. But guess what? My AMD at 700 MHz smoked the crap out of an Intel at 1 GHz. Did the Intel fan boys care, or know what they were talking about? Of course not. We all know that old Macs with Motorolas killed PCs with Intel processors of identical speed and did not require ultra high processing speeds such as Intel.
Intels have historically been designed for newbs to utilize. They have (or at least had) an instruction set and overall design that requires an ignorant programmer to use clock cycles for every single calculation. The Motorola was designed for intelligent people to program however. The Motorola will yield usable data(on the side chutes) that can be used, or not used, for every clock cycle that can be combined with output to effectively stack data in one clock cycle that an Intel will need at least 2-3 cycles to produce by going from output to input over and over. Thus, the Intel has to be significantly faster than the competition to do the same work. I suspect that Intel, over the last 10-12 years, has caught up with the overall quality of its processors because the top speed is changing little while their productivity is rising quickly.

So my wife and I just picked up two new 9700s in white and black from T-Mobile with their buy-1-get-1 offer We're both already blackberry users. I was upgrading from a Pearl 8120, and she had a Curve 8320.After letting them charge for a while I finally fired them up to start playing with them.My first goal is to set them up as similar to our old phones as possible.
I checked the OS'es that shipped with each one and my black 9700 had 5.0.0.330 and hers had 5.0.0.586. So, I went to upgrade mine. But, while playing with some of the settings before upgrading I noticed that I was able to set my left convenience key to lock the keyboard on my 9700 but not on hers.In fact, the white 9700 that shipped with 5.0.0.586 didn't even have the lock keyboard icon in any of the menu screens at all.
I upgraded my OS to 5.0.0.586 and then went to check the left convenience key nothing.Went into settings and where it was previously set to Lock Keyboard, was now set to "Nothing".Is there no Lock Keyboard feature in OS 5.0.0.586? or am I seriously missing something?

My mute key has gone insane. Not only does it not always work when I push it, it often goes into spasms of randomly triggering without being pushed. This is a major problem, since in most applications it triggers a standby mode which can only be exited by... pushing the mute key.
Does anyone know a fix for this? Ideally, I'd like to make one of the convenience buttons a second Mute so I could use that to exit standby. That's not one of the native assignments; is there a program that could allow it? I'd also settle for killing the mute function entirely.
