Nov 14, 2014I flashed the factory images last night effectively wiping my Nexus 5 and starting from scratch. I did not restore apps and settings either. After I manually installed a bunch of my apps back and changed around a few settings, I decided to enable encryption. However, I don't think it enabled properly.
First, I had not set a PIN lock on my phone yet at the time. When I decided to enable encryption and go through the process, it didn't ask me to enter a PIN. It seemingly completed encrypting the phone. When I go back to the security menu, it says "Encrypted". However, I am not prompted to enter a PIN upon booting the phone (not talking about the lock screen PIN). So, it seems like it didn't work but I'm not sure. I saw the performance degradation that comes with enabling encryption but I'd rather have the security.

May 11, 2012According to this Motorola FAQ about their Android encryption, "When SD card encryption is enabled, all new files added to the removable memory will be encrypted. Files stored on the card will not be readable via another phone or card reader connected to PC. User can transfer files from encrypted SD card to PC using embedded Phone Portal application." So what happens if a user encrypts their data and their phone dies? They will not have the opportunity to transfer it to a PC and the replacement phone will have a different ESN. Is their data recoverable via any other mechanism or is it lost forever?

Sep 12, 2015I just want to preface this by saying I cannot root my phone. Not because I am incapable but because this is my corporate phone and I would no longer be able to use it for work related things if I rooted it.
I am using a Bell Canada Samsung Galaxy S6. Every person I've come across that has an S6 or newer samsung phone is able to boot up on silent and not get the samsung noise when the logo comes up. I tried doing a hard reset on my phone just to test to see if my phone would boot silently if I set it on "Mute" mode and it did WITHOUT encryption but I am forced to use encryption by my company's device management policy app or I can't access other things like my e-mail.
How to get the device to boot silently without rooting with these factors in mind? I reached out to samsung and they were clueless. As far as the support knows, the phones cannot boot without the noise even on "Mute" mode which is clearly not the case.
I've tried the Silent boot app as well with no success. I've noticed this happens only when encrypted and upon checking the volume settings on the screen where you have to put your encryption password after booting up, the volume settings are kicked back to default.

BB Curve 83xx :: Unknown Icon Only Shows While Keys Are Locked?
Mar 14, 2010Have been searching forums for a couple weeks now and cannot find an answer. I have an icon on my screen that only shows up when I lock my keys it is a blue and white square and thats about all I can tell about it, since I can only see it when the keys are locked and the screen goes black very quickly when locked I cannot examine the Icon very well Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, I have gone through all my messages and applications and cant seem to find anything. also when I first noticed the icon it had a 1 next to it and it is now up to 4 so I feel it is some kind of message, but i'm very confused as to why it will only show when the keys are locked.I look forward to see what everyone has to say about this as I have always been VERY pleased with the GREAT information I get from this site!

Apr 10, 2012I woke up this morning and had an "Enterprise Activation" icon on my screen. I didn't download it, so I have no idea how it got there (it was a rectangle or folder with a green arrow on it). When I clicked on it it went to a white screen and said "Encryption Regeneration" but didn't seem to do anything else. I looked for a delete option for the icon, but there was none on the list. I went to the Blackberry App World and couldn't find anything that suggested I had downloaded it, but when I browsed online I found an article that said you can download this whatever-it-is from Blackberry. I also had some upgrades that needed doing, so I upgraded Twitter, Yahoo, Google and MSN apps and rebooted. After reboot the new icon has disappeared. Could this have happened spontaneously for some reason? Or have I been hacked?

Oct 21, 2011In the older versions the data enabled/disabled icon disappeared every time I cleaned the notifications on the status bar, but after updating to ICS it's stuck. Only changes from enbled to disabled, and touching on it opens the settings, but there aren't any options to turn it off or hide it. Or I'm missing the option somewhere?

I have a password set which I believe would be fairly secure if someone tried to gain access.
My question is what other steps should I take regarding the security of my handset and what steps do members of this forum take.
I'm also curious as to what happens if I enable my encryption setting under options?.
One concern I have with the password feature would be that I believe the handset can be reset if the password is typed in wrong the number of times set. If someone fooled around with my phone then they could wipe it intentionally, is that correct?
BB Curve :: Media Card Encryption Code?
Apr 9, 2012My phone wouldn't recognise unlock code so it wiped everything and when it rebooted I saw for the first time in 18 months that I needed a media card encryption code which was used to protect files so I presumed was the same as new unlock code but its not and I've lost music and photos and downloaded files?

May 16, 2011I am looking for some help on getting access to media that was encrypted on the 128MD micro SD card that came with my original BB Curve (qwerty).Some time back my original BB was damaged and my company's internal IT dept gave me a temporary Curve BB (azerty). That BB came with an SD card which I replaced with my original SD card. When my new BB Curve (qwerty) got in, I handed over the temporary one (azerty) and kept my original micro SD card. Now I need to access the content of that micro SD card and am having a hard time doing so.
I can't remember if the original micro SD card was only encrypted with a password or a device key as well.
I have tried to use what I think the encryption key was on the micro SD I need to access by use of the new BB Curve (qwerty). I get my 5 try's then remove and re-insert the micro SD card.
All this to no avail. Now, the content is very important to me and I am willing to go through any formal process to get at the content. Can anyone tell me how to reach someone at RIM (BlackBerry) to discuss this, or if there is any legal way of getting at the content. (I can confirm the content before it is decrypted).
The issues I have here are:
1) not sure if the card was encrypted with a password and a device key (in which case I have a further dilemma in that the original device (BB Curve qwerty) has been retired and is no longer available for use) or just a password. Is there a way to find this out?
2) Because I use so many different passwords on all the devices I have to use, I am not even sure I am trying the right one for this micro SD card. Plus having gone from a qwerty to azerty, then back to a qwerty keyboard, I am not sure I am using the right password to decrypt. I am however able to provide the full password if given the 1st character of the encryption password.
I am not looking to do anything illegal but truly need to access the encrypted content. As such I am reaching out to the community and looking for any help available such as contact at RIM, formal process to decrypt, hints, clues. Anything to move this forward.

Aug 9, 2010I have been trying to access a website that I normally visit daily and today it was telling me that about memory being full. Its only when i try to access my inbox, yet the the rest of the pages will load (including facebook).I deleted a bunch of pics off my phone and thought if i enabled memory cleaning, it would clear my cache, cookies, etc.
the prompt said it would save changes when the device was turned off and rebooted. I did a battery pull and now what is happening is my issue.
after i pulled the battery, I get a red blink of hte led, then a black screen with a clock in the middle (obviously the loading symbol) and then the screen showing "blackberry" with a loading bar.Once the loading bar is done loading...nothing! It goes back to turning off the device and reloading from the start. It has been doing this for 2 hours and the device will not go to the home screen, it just keeps rebooting itself. I have done 2 or 3 battery pulls now and it keeps doing it. Would it have anything to do with the "memory clean" enablement? or is the peice of cr@p toast now? And have i lost all my contacts??

Jun 11, 2010I just had to rebuild a BES box using the Xpress Server software 5.0.1. After reactivating all the phones, I noticed that the subfolders were all empty. Here is what I did...
1. I double checked the Web Desktop Manager to ensure that the redirection was turned on.
2. Enabled folder redirection on the handheld and SELECTED ALL subfolders.
a. I read that the messages would have to be moved to another folder, then readded for the sync to catch, so I did...
3. Gave it 1/2 hour and it still didn't work...

BB Curve :: Error - "Service Not Enabled For This Handheld"
Apr 13, 2010When I try to use the Gtalk application it gives me the following error:"Service not enabled for this handheld" I installed gtalk via appworld. I have consequently tried to remove it and reinstall it from the device and again from the desktop managment software. I suspect this error is due to missing application permissions. When I go to:options > Security Options > Application Permissions there is no entry for gtalk. A colleage at work (with a bold) has an entry specific to gtalk. Any idea how I can do a clean install (so that the install does not sggest a reinstall) and/or force the creation of the permissions entry.here are some details:
