BB Curve :: Updating Apps On 8520?
Feb 5, 2011I have been trying to update some apps on my Curve for a while. When I go to appworld on my phone and try to run the upgrade, it says "facebook is not available for download from Blackberry App world"....Then I tried to upload it on my PC and I go to the appworld page and it asks me to connect it to my payoal account. I go through the steps and get the confirmaiton from paypal, but then go back to appwork and get the folowing "The PayPal email address you provided is not correct. Please log in with the email address(it lists my e-mail address)"......

Jul 10, 2010I'm having a bit of a problem updating to the latest version of firmware for my 8520. Currently I've got v4.6.1.314 but Vodafone have released v5.0.0.1168 so I'd like to upgrade to that.
I've already downloaded and installed the firmware on my computer but when I try to use the App loader to install it on my blackberry it tells me v4.6 is the most recent available.
Any ideas why v5 won't show up when I try to install it?

May 10, 2012I have had my 8520 for about 18 months and it has worked fine. Recently, I downloaded an app from app world and then all strange things started to happen. (I am not sure if the problem is related). It would freeze with a white screen or just go black and if I try to reboot it will start up and then freeze again. at first It will only reboot properly if plugged into my desktop. I tried restoring the OS and that didnt help. Now, if it is plugged into the pc or wall charger it just keeps rebooting over and over. The phone works when it wants and sometimes it doesnt. It doesnt work for a whole day.

Jul 27, 2012I was doing a reboot on my blackberry, as it was booting, at about 70% it just stops. I tried to connect it to the BB desktop manager so that I can try to update the device software, but it only connects to my pc when the battery is removed, when I put the battery back in, it disconnects then switches itself on, loads up till about 70%, then stops. I even tried leaving it the entire night with hope that it will get through that stage, but it still wont budge. I tried downgrading the OS to v4.6.1 but the phone doesn't switch on at all. So I upgraded back to v5.0.0 and it still gives me the same problem.

Aug 9, 2011My phone is on this weird state now that it freezes and nothing happens, not even the little watch comes out and so I have to reboot it. But when I do, I have to use it non stop doing whatever for about 3 hours or so, not being able to leave it alone because if I do, even for a minute it will freeze all over again and the process will start over.But also, sometimes when I reboot it, it doesn't being to reboot. It just stays with the screen shut off and eventually the little red light would turn on and off but nothing else will happen. I left it in that state for about 10 hours and nothing.Right now it has been frozen for almost an hour, Ive had to reboot it about 25times today and I´m beginning to give up and getting scared for my phone.

I was on it one day on bbm and it died so when I got home I charged it up then went to turn it on but after 2 seconds of the rebooting screen a battery with a red cross appeared giving me the indication my battery was low I let the rebooting process continue but at about three quarters of the way through it froze, so I pulled the battery out after leaving it too freeze for over an hour and carried on doing that. It didn't work a few weeks later I tried it again it worked but then today it ran out of charge and when I tried to turn it on it does the same thing even know I have 100% charge as my other blackberry (which can only use facebook for some reason) said I had 100% in the status option screen.

Today, I had a notification to upgrade App World, well the upgrade was successful, and I clicked yes to allow the device to restart as soon as the upgrade was finished. Now, whenever I try to download a new application, the phone seemingly downloads it but then the screen turns black when the download is finished and will reboot itself. The new apps aren't found on the device afterwards. What is happening, how can I download the apps I want?

My service is through ATT in the US, but I use the phone abroad - currently in Sydney, Australia.Sometime early this morning [still asleep as alarm didn't go off], the phone began rebooting. When it reboots, it fails half way through and starts again. This has been going on for over 10 hours. I have not had time to load any new application onto it, it is in the same state it came. I just receive and send email and text.I have spoken to ATT and the only thing they recommend is a new phone. However, they wont send it to me outside the US, they say it isn't possible [even if I pay for shipping]. I guess they never heard of FedEx or DHL. So much for their international service. I have to coordinate shipping through my office in the US. This is going take me more time than I think I can live without the phone.
I've tried a battery that I know works and the problem persisted. I would like to wipe the phone clean, but since I don't ever get to the main screen, I cant do it using an application. Is there any way to wipe it clean using a combination of keys? I cant do it from my PC either as it doesnt recognize the phone since it is always rebooting.

Oct 9, 2011I'm from South Africa and have a Blackberry 8520, carrier/network provider is Vodacom. Up until last week I've had absolutely no problems with the device. I updated my BBM to 6.0.0.129 (if I'm correct) when the update became available on App World and all was great, no problems at all in my 9 months or so of owning the device to be honest. However I soon realized that my statuses were not updating when I was with a few of my friends. I then pulled the battery, and nothing, went a step further and pulled the bat, SIM and memory card, left it for about 5 minutes (usually worked when the networks or the devices I've owned used to give problems) and still nothing, but I found that when I connected to my wifi at home it updated my statues. Though it soon became few and far between and altogether stopped updating even when I was connected to the wifi. A lot of my friends have had problems with their BB's going mad, losing contacts and BBM, devices needing to be replaced etc etc, but I finally built up the courage to try a few new things after a few days of the annoying problem (seeing that my ideas always seemed to work on previous devices I've owned, not strictly Blackberry though, this is my 1st Blackberry). I found the link to BBM5 (via the Blackberry site) on the net, downloaded it and decided to go back to App World and get BBM 6 thinking it might work. WRONG! App World showed that I still had BBM 6, though it showed as uninstalled, and I couldn't get a download option, unfortunately you can't downgrade BBM using App World (why????). So today I hooked up the phone to my PC, using the desktop software I removed App World and finished the process, when my phone finally rebooted I found that my BBM was gone too. So I followed the link through the App World icon and got App World back, after which I found App World was picking up BBM (V6) as installed anyway, even though BBM was gone from my phone. Following the "Update BBM" link that was now on my phone, I got back my BBM (nice intro interface by the way, set display name, restore contact list etc etc, looked good) and restored the conact list, and STILL MY STATUES REFUSES TO UPDATE!! Messages are going through and my display pics show up, however I also found that not all of my contacts pics are showing up at the moment (I did all the PC work and downloading like 40-50 minutes ago), maybe they need to update it or I need to reboot again so that it sync's, but most importantly my statues still don't update, it shows up on my side, the statues messages and busy/available icons show up on my phone, but not to any of my contacts. I'm unsure if my BBM is even linked to my App World anymore, and I refuse to try anymore stunts incase I lose my BBM contacts or BBM and App World completely. I have around 65 contacts, so it can't be the "100+ contacts" stuff I've read up about on the multitude of smartphone/Blackberry forums I've ravaged, even less so 'cause I have BBM6, not 5.

Oct 9, 2012so my fella has a bb curve 8520 and it still has the oldest of old settings on there. I have attempted to update it on the actual software but it keeps telling me no updates are available, i tried updating on the mobile internet site but i'm getting nowhere.
i'd connect it to the computer but i can't find the lead to do so.
is there any other way to update this phone before i take it to the shop??
