so my fella has a bb curve 8520 and it still has the oldest of old settings on there. I have attempted to update it on the actual software but it keeps telling me no updates are available, i tried updating on the mobile internet site but i'm getting nowhere.
i'd connect it to the computer but i can't find the lead to do so.
is there any other way to update this phone before i take it to the shop??
I am using BB 8520 with os 5 can I upgrade in OS6 or any new OS
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having a bit of a problem updating to the latest version of firmware for my 8520. Currently I've got v4.6.1.314 but Vodafone have released v5.0.0.1168 so I'd like to upgrade to that.
I've already downloaded and installed the firmware on my computer but when I try to use the App loader to install it on my blackberry it tells me v4.6 is the most recent available.
Any ideas why v5 won't show up when I try to install it?
I was just wondering if I went ahead and bought a blackberry curve 8900 off ebay is there anyway i could just put my current sim card in the bb and use my current plan. I dont want the data charges. By the way I have at&t. What about buying an unlocked 8900? would that help? I want the blackberry without the data plan, and i dont want at&t to just charge me for data.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm from South Africa and have a Blackberry 8520, carrier/network provider is Vodacom. Up until last week I've had absolutely no problems with the device. I updated my BBM to 6.0.0.129 (if I'm correct) when the update became available on App World and all was great, no problems at all in my 9 months or so of owning the device to be honest. However I soon realized that my statuses were not updating when I was with a few of my friends. I then pulled the battery, and nothing, went a step further and pulled the bat, SIM and memory card, left it for about 5 minutes (usually worked when the networks or the devices I've owned used to give problems) and still nothing, but I found that when I connected to my wifi at home it updated my statues. Though it soon became few and far between and altogether stopped updating even when I was connected to the wifi. A lot of my friends have had problems with their BB's going mad, losing contacts and BBM, devices needing to be replaced etc etc, but I finally built up the courage to try a few new things after a few days of the annoying problem (seeing that my ideas always seemed to work on previous devices I've owned, not strictly Blackberry though, this is my 1st Blackberry). I found the link to BBM5 (via the Blackberry site) on the net, downloaded it and decided to go back to App World and get BBM 6 thinking it might work. WRONG! App World showed that I still had BBM 6, though it showed as uninstalled, and I couldn't get a download option, unfortunately you can't downgrade BBM using App World (why????). So today I hooked up the phone to my PC, using the desktop software I removed App World and finished the process, when my phone finally rebooted I found that my BBM was gone too. So I followed the link through the App World icon and got App World back, after which I found App World was picking up BBM (V6) as installed anyway, even though BBM was gone from my phone. Following the "Update BBM" link that was now on my phone, I got back my BBM (nice intro interface by the way, set display name, restore contact list etc etc, looked good) and restored the conact list, and STILL MY STATUES REFUSES TO UPDATE!! Messages are going through and my display pics show up, however I also found that not all of my contacts pics are showing up at the moment (I did all the PC work and downloading like 40-50 minutes ago), maybe they need to update it or I need to reboot again so that it sync's, but most importantly my statues still don't update, it shows up on my side, the statues messages and busy/available icons show up on my phone, but not to any of my contacts. I'm unsure if my BBM is even linked to my App World anymore, and I refuse to try anymore stunts incase I lose my BBM contacts or BBM and App World completely. I have around 65 contacts, so it can't be the "100+ contacts" stuff I've read up about on the multitude of smartphone/Blackberry forums I've ravaged, even less so 'cause I have BBM6, not 5.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI've upgraded from my original OS to 5.0.0.411 (i think) at the start of the year with no problems. Two days ago I attempted the upgrade to .681 which was fine, but I'm not keen on the update as the UMA isn't working properly, so I want to downgrade.
So last night I managed to get back to the original OS 4.? (I was having probs with a straight forward downgrade to another OS5) and tried to upgrade to the Vodafone Italy (I'm on Orange UK) but it wasn't being recognised with the Desktop Blackberry software (vendor file was deleted), although when I went into the upgrade part on the app loader, it did appear there, but with an asterisk saying I had to be registered with Blackberry to be eligible for the upgrade (or something like that). I attempted the upgrade but the software wouldn't allow it.
I removed that software and tried with the Wind release, but again the desk top software didn't recognise it.I tried the .681 release again and the upgrade worked fine
I would really like to go back to a stable OS where the UMA works. Any ideas how to do it with the Vodafone Italy release? Or am I being blocked somehow as I'm registered to Orange UK? If so does anyone have a link to download another earlier release that is stable and not carrier associated?
I was wondering if I'm able to update my virgin mobile to the sprint final OS instead of the .601.. The .601 takes so long to load and everytime I turn my phone off and back on %5 of the battery disappears... Either it's my battery or the phone. But I just want to know if I could load the sprint OS instead of Virgin mobile. I just got my phone and it came with .601 but me not liking it.

I recently received a message telling me that an update was available for App World. I downloaded the update, installed it and rebooted. Now I am unable to download apps. When I hit the download button it takes me to the sign in for BlackBerry ID, then to terms and conditions and then to my ID settings! The only way I can get off this screen is to press Discard, which takes me back to where I started! I just keep going round in circles.

When turned on, the screen shows a picture of USB cable pointing to the ITunes logo. I have tried just about everything, and cannot get it working. It's like it is frozon. It has been stuck here all day! I called Fido earlier and asked them what to do and they told me to connect to my computer, I have done that and have tried everything and the problem still exists.
Got a Curve 8520 and since updating yesterday, the frame rate when recording video has dropped significantly meaning jerky/jumpy video. It may be worth adding that even when in video camera mode but NOT recording the feed is still jumpy. I can see the difference by watching video I recorded before the update and also by comparing to my wifes phone (exactly the same as mine) which has not had the update yet.

When the Application Loader launches, it only provides me with the option of maintaining my OS and downgrading my OS to the older 4.6.1 version. I have previously used the exact same steps on another Curve 8520 and I had successfully upgraded the OS. I downloaded blackberry desktop manager 6, and it prompted me to install OS 5. However, here is the problem: The software downloads. It runs perfectly fine for a day or two, and then BAM the phone just starts rebooting itself constantly out of nowhere! Then I have to redo the entire process all over again! how do i get the software downloaded to my phone without it rebooting after like 2 days?

I did all these steps.
1) Downloaded 8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel860_PL5.2.0.47_A5.0.0.509_Wind_Hellas
2)Deleted "vendor.xml"
3)And executed LOADER.EXE
I followed all the steps and i couldnt update my OS. I dont know what else to do i followed all the steps still i failed Is there any other way to update my OS ???
I've been trying to update my blackberry to OS 5 since I got it in august last year and it just isn't happening. My service provider is T-mobile and there is no wireless update available, and when I try to update it through desktop manager it gets to a certain point, connecting to boot ROM (I think it is) and it switches the phone off and I get a message come up on my screen about changing the power management settings on my laptop USB's then retry, I have tried this many times and it hasn't worked at all.
