BB Curve 8520/8530 :: Updating Firmware On 8520
Jul 10, 2010I'm having a bit of a problem updating to the latest version of firmware for my 8520. Currently I've got v4.6.1.314 but Vodafone have released v5.0.0.1168 so I'd like to upgrade to that.
I've already downloaded and installed the firmware on my computer but when I try to use the App loader to install it on my blackberry it tells me v4.6 is the most recent available.
Any ideas why v5 won't show up when I try to install it?

Sep 17, 2011hey guyz i have curve 8520 and with v4.6i want to update my phone to v5.0 but whenever i try to connect my phone to desktop software and click on updates, it says 'there are no updates available for your phone' and below there comes a option for 'view another version' where i did find the v5.0 update but when i click on 'install' it says:This BlackBerry® Device Software upgrade includes new features and significant enhancements to the BlackBerry® solution and, as such, is only available to users with an active BlackBerry subscription.

Oct 9, 2011I'm from South Africa and have a Blackberry 8520, carrier/network provider is Vodacom. Up until last week I've had absolutely no problems with the device. I updated my BBM to 6.0.0.129 (if I'm correct) when the update became available on App World and all was great, no problems at all in my 9 months or so of owning the device to be honest. However I soon realized that my statuses were not updating when I was with a few of my friends. I then pulled the battery, and nothing, went a step further and pulled the bat, SIM and memory card, left it for about 5 minutes (usually worked when the networks or the devices I've owned used to give problems) and still nothing, but I found that when I connected to my wifi at home it updated my statues. Though it soon became few and far between and altogether stopped updating even when I was connected to the wifi. A lot of my friends have had problems with their BB's going mad, losing contacts and BBM, devices needing to be replaced etc etc, but I finally built up the courage to try a few new things after a few days of the annoying problem (seeing that my ideas always seemed to work on previous devices I've owned, not strictly Blackberry though, this is my 1st Blackberry). I found the link to BBM5 (via the Blackberry site) on the net, downloaded it and decided to go back to App World and get BBM 6 thinking it might work. WRONG! App World showed that I still had BBM 6, though it showed as uninstalled, and I couldn't get a download option, unfortunately you can't downgrade BBM using App World (why????). So today I hooked up the phone to my PC, using the desktop software I removed App World and finished the process, when my phone finally rebooted I found that my BBM was gone too. So I followed the link through the App World icon and got App World back, after which I found App World was picking up BBM (V6) as installed anyway, even though BBM was gone from my phone. Following the "Update BBM" link that was now on my phone, I got back my BBM (nice intro interface by the way, set display name, restore contact list etc etc, looked good) and restored the conact list, and STILL MY STATUES REFUSES TO UPDATE!! Messages are going through and my display pics show up, however I also found that not all of my contacts pics are showing up at the moment (I did all the PC work and downloading like 40-50 minutes ago), maybe they need to update it or I need to reboot again so that it sync's, but most importantly my statues still don't update, it shows up on my side, the statues messages and busy/available icons show up on my phone, but not to any of my contacts. I'm unsure if my BBM is even linked to my App World anymore, and I refuse to try anymore stunts incase I lose my BBM contacts or BBM and App World completely. I have around 65 contacts, so it can't be the "100+ contacts" stuff I've read up about on the multitude of smartphone/Blackberry forums I've ravaged, even less so 'cause I have BBM6, not 5.

When I go to appworld on my phone and try to run the upgrade, it says "facebook is not available for download from Blackberry App world"....Then I tried to upload it on my PC and I go to the appworld page and it asks me to connect it to my payoal account. I go through the steps and get the confirmaiton from paypal, but then go back to appwork and get the folowing "The PayPal email address you provided is not correct. Please log in with the email address(it lists my e-mail address)"......

Oct 9, 2012so my fella has a bb curve 8520 and it still has the oldest of old settings on there. I have attempted to update it on the actual software but it keeps telling me no updates are available, i tried updating on the mobile internet site but i'm getting nowhere.
i'd connect it to the computer but i can't find the lead to do so.
is there any other way to update this phone before i take it to the shop??

BB Software :: Keylock Icon Disappeared On 8520 After Updating
Feb 10, 2010I have just installed the new BlackBerry software update for my 8520 and the Keyboard lock icon has disappeared! It is one of the most important functions for this phone which will open applications or try to phone people at the slightest excuse. I've opened up everything I can find in the various menus but can find nothing related to this & searches using words like Keylock or Keyboard lock on the BlackBerry website come up with solutions to spelling check or highlighting problems! Incidentally initial quick look at update seems to be an improvement, in appearance at least.

Aug 24, 2010If anyone out there could lend me a helping hand with this. Well, im not a very heavy BB user but ive never had my batt go dead on me but it happened! i totally couldnt turn my phone on until i put in my charger.Then it happens randomly whereby my phone will heat up and the battery drops 5% every 10mins or so! until it shuts off!! It happened once right after i fully charged my phone and it shut off within the next hour.Anyone knows whats happening?? i suspected whether it was any of my installed apps that are draining my batt, so i shut off everything! i mean no msn no foursquare no twitter only emails are on but yet it still happens!!Help please? i hope its just the batt thats screwed not my phone.

Aug 11, 2010I have an ATT 8520 Curve unlocked to work with a tmobile sim card and have a few questions...Now that's unlocked I cant setup an external email account (hotmail, gmail, etc...) that icon is missing from the setup section. how can I get that feature? can I also use the bbm feature? I added a friend (and vice-versa) but it just stays as pending. is it possible to bbm? for the above 2 do i need to get the bb data plan so they can work? I've read elsewhere that the best way to get the features would be to load the tmobile handheld software. I went to tmobiles site, I enter my ph# - select the 8520 - click on handheld and it takes me to their 'shop for phones' page. I guess they now by the number that i dont currently have a bb. So I tried a friends ph# from tmobile who has a bb and it still took me to the 'shop for phones' page. So I Am hoping it's just a link glitch going on right now. I did download from this forum the 5.0 OS "8520wifiM_PBr5.0.0_rel860_PL5.2.0.47_A5.0.0.509_W ind_Hellas.exe" which obviously is not tmobile. What would loading this different OS allow me to do? Or what features will I have available? and I have lowercase 'edge'.

We now have official word from RIM via press release today that unless you have a 9650, 9700, or Pearl3G you have to buy a new phone to get OS 6:"Subject to carrier certifications in the months ahead, the new OS is expected to be available for the BlackBerry® Bold™ 9700, BlackBerry® Bold™ 9650 and BlackBerry® Pearl™ 3G, as well as future BlackBerry smartphones."
That being said, are you going to be dumping your 8520/30 for something new just to get OS6?

Jul 5, 2010got a 8520 a couple of months ago, and after two weeks the phone speaker would break up when making a call, so you could only hear 1 in 3 words someone was saying, and inbetween was silence.T-mobile sent me a new one out next day, but now after 4 months the new one has started doing it.Can make calls fine with ear piece, speakerphone is working for playing music, haven't tried it for calls, and handset speaker works fine for music too, but breaks up when phoning anyoneThe second time it happened was just after okaying an upgrade. Anyone heard of this before?

Apr 19, 2010My 8520 was working fine last night but the battery was down to 10% charge.
Charged the battery up and phone worked fine and I turned it off before going to bed.
The phone turned on fine this morning and was showing a full charge. I did turn it off when I got to work and when I went to turn it back on when I went to lunch I got nothing. The LED glows briefly and faintly when I try to power the phone on.
I tried hooking to my car charger but with the same results.

May 15, 2010I'm trying to update my 8520 to 5.0, and no matter what I try I cannot get the thing to work, I've tried to delete and reinstall the update of my computer many times (5.0.0.509, platform 5.2.0.47), tried unplugging the internet, turning off connections on my phone, taking out the SD card, I mean just about everything, except wiping my phone, obviously I'm saving this for a last resort. I'm not on a carrier (etisalat) where the update is released, and probably won't be for a long time. So I've deleted the vendor file and all that, and when I go into loader.exe or Desktop Manager, the only option for my phone is the 4.6 software.
I don't know what else I can do?

Jun 1, 2012I'm from Canada and every time i try to update my os to 7.1, it will not let me do so. It says I need to, but when I try to, my phone disconnects after starting to back up. I tried just backing it up manually, and again it says it disconnects. It always disconnects while it says backing up social feeds. I have a mac and use the blackberry desktop software, which I have uninstalled and reinstalled (updated) more than once.
