BB Bold :: Delay In Email Download To Phone?

There is a delay between the time when an email is sent until when it appears on the phone. The delay is often several hours, sometimes days. Most commonly, i get a batch of emails in the morning when the phone turns on, but i don't get any more emails for 3-5 hours. Usually, i get several at the same time in another batch sometime in the afternoon. How do i get emails to download more frequently automatically? Is there a way to manually ping the server to check for new messages? Not sure what the "reconcile now" function is for, but it doesnt seem to do anything.

My phone is a blackberry bold 9700 on OS 6. Only email account is hotmail. Carrier is t-mobile.
