BB Bold 9700 :: Disable Top Screen Lock Button
Feb 11, 2010I can't stand how the bold 9700 has a screen lock button on top of it- on my old curve i set the side convenience button as the screen lock and to unlock the screen i had to hit two keys (since i didn't set a PW)... now all i have to do his hit the top button-- i've pocket dialed a bunch of people now just by accidentally pressing this button- is there any way to disable this top screen lock button?

Apr 10, 2010On my BB, when I press the lock button on the top left, the screen goes black and it locks. I'm sure I changed it to this at some point from something else however I don't know how or where etc. My friend's Blackberry (same Bold 9700) has a lock screen that shows a padlock to say it's locked but I don't get this? Any ideas? This lock screen displays her background image and a little padlock in the bottom corner etc.

Jul 26, 2010I have a problem with my Blackberry and would be grateful if anyone knows what the problem is.I have only my Blackberry 9700 bold for 1 month or so.I am unable to lock my keypad by using the lock key on top of the phone. This has happened before but after charging my phone it started to work again. I have turned my phone on and off, tried charging it and the button still doesn't work. Although the keypad will lock when I put it into the leather case.Do you think it is a problem with my blackberry and I should return it? Or is this a problem people have had before and if so, how do I fix it?

Oct 10, 2011I changed my blackberry from bold 9700 to 9780 and I am trying to activate my email for the last 10 hours but it has not been possible. Also using blackberry desktop software I tried to restore backup from my old phone to the new one but it has not updated my bbm. When I try moving my old email account it says to put my email password in. I put the right password in and when I press activate it says 'Sorry, unable to continue your session. 1. When I go to view pictures and hit menu I don't have the option to email/mms the picture, I have to go to Compose email, attach file and look for the picture, why is it like this? Is there something I did wrong or a way to fix this?
2. I don't have an option for keyboard lock. With my 8900 I set my left smart key to lock the keyboard and you have to hit * and call to unlock it. I know rim removed it so is there an app that can do this? When I hit the lock button on the top it locks it but it has unlocked several times in my pocket already and I don't want to set a password.

Jun 16, 2010I have a BB Bold 9700 white. I recently downloaded a couple of apps from appworld and they ran fine.The thing is my network company is 3 and personally I think they are S*** to be honest. The network keeps going onto 'SOS calls only' alot of the time so I called the company up and they asked me to reboot my BB. After archiving all my apps in appworld I rebooted it and guess what...all the apps disappeared.Downloaded appworld again to check if they were on it but no luck. They were however on my memory card but the thing is it says it cant open the file. All the files end in '.cod.rem' and they are all 'forward locked' whatever that means. Anyone know what's going on and how to get the apps working again?

May 31, 2010So my wife and I just picked up two new 9700s in white and black from T-Mobile with their buy-1-get-1 offer We're both already blackberry users. I was upgrading from a Pearl 8120, and she had a Curve 8320.After letting them charge for a while I finally fired them up to start playing with them.My first goal is to set them up as similar to our old phones as possible.
I checked the OS'es that shipped with each one and my black 9700 had 5.0.0.330 and hers had 5.0.0.586. So, I went to upgrade mine.But, while playing with some of the settings before upgrading I noticed that I was able to set my left convenience key to lock the keyboard on my 9700 but not on hers.In fact, the white 9700 that shipped with 5.0.0.586 didn't even have the lock keyboard icon in any of the menu screens at all.
I upgraded my OS to 5.0.0.586 and then went to check the left convenience key nothing.Went into settings and where it was previously set to Lock Keyboard, was now set to "Nothing".Is there no Lock Keyboard feature in OS 5.0.0.586? or am I seriously missing something?

Input language shortcut: ALT-ENTER
Enable Quick Selection: YES
But it still locks the keyoad whenever I try this

Aug 11, 2010Is there an "auto" keypad lock in the bold 9700? by that a mean can you set it to auto lock the keypad after a certain time of no use like the nokia and other phones, The only way I have found to lock the keypad is with the button on the top left.

May 4, 2010I've had my phone for a couple of months now and it's been fine. The last software update caused the phone screen to go dark every time I turned on the keyboard lock, which is ok. But now often, but not always I can't get the phone to unlock again. I can activate the screen by pressing the Blackberry menu button but it just tells me the phone is locked. Pressing the keyboard lock/unlock button does nothing. I have to either disconnect the battery or connect the phone to a power supply to unlock it. Seems a bit strange to me.

Feb 19, 2010I have just updated to the new OS platform 5.1.0.146, I don't know why really they have made this inconvenient option, the lock key, only locks the keyboard without Password Locking the device, more over it locks the device and dim the screen directly, which wasn't the same in older OS.Really RIM has screwed the functionality of this lock button big time.As a solution I have changed the function for the right button to Password Lock instead of voice dialing. But I really can't see any reason why RIM did that
